Tekelec Releases First Diameter Signaling Index September, 2013

“Tekelec recently published its LTE Diameter

Signalling Index, which it believes is the industry’s

first attempt to forecast the growth of Diameter

signalling traffic in LTE networks…this growth rate,

the firm says, is three times faster than the growth that

mobile data traffic is expected to show over the same

period.”

“Tekelec…released its LTE Diameter Signalling Index. This

report projects that diameter traffic will increase at a +252% CAGR

until 2016 from 800k to 47 million messages per second globally.

This is due to a radical change in applications behavior, as well as

the new pricing and business models put in place by operators.

Policy management, QoS management, metered charging, 2 sided

business models and M2M traffic are some of the culprits

highlighted in the report.”

“Diameter signaling traffic to see 962% CAGR in

CALA by 2016 – Tekelec”

“Diameter signaling could become the new front line in signaling storms,

Tekelec claims, with growth in Diameter traffic forecast to more than triple

mobile data traffic growth through 2016.”

“With Diameter at the center of Tekelec’s ‘New Diameter Network’

framework, the LTE Diameter Signaling Index is part of Tekelec’s

industry thought leadership positioning. By highlighting policy as

having the largest impact on Diameter signaling growth, Tekelec

plays to its market-leading policy control and DSR strengths.”

“According to the "LTE Diameter Signaling Index" published

by Tekelec…almost any move a mobile operator makes to

introduce new services or creative charging models, or to

ensure QoS for voice and video offers on its new LTE

network, will increase signaling traffic. That's why it's an

important technology to watch. It will also be fascinating to

see just how operators choose to design their networks to

deal with this onslaught of Diameter signaling traffic.”
