PRINCIPALS REPORT
I pray that you are well with the Grace of the Almighty. It is with great pleasure and pride that I present you with a brief overview of the DIANELLA COLLEGE’S aims, philosophies, achievements, and successes of 2010. The year was filled with great memories of wonderful moments for staff, students and parents alike. I am

particularly proud of our students’ outstanding academic performance in the NAPLAN and New South Wales ICAS testing.
I thank Allah (swt) who has Blessed our College with the responsibility (Amaanat) and well-
being of 725 students this year. This is a challenge that the staff and I undertook with full commitment, loyalty and dedication; we strived to provide every child in our TRUST with the opportunity to excel (academically and spiritually) Insha- Allah!
DIANELLA COLLEGE (staff, students, administration) is a ‘FAMILY’ – where foundations of trust, respect, honesty, sincerity, loyalty, tolerance, acceptance and gratitude as well as the ability to utilize all the GIFTS that Allah (swt) has Bestowed us with is practiced and implemented DAILY with conviction.
Our ethos and philosophy, students’ impeccable behaviour, positive attitude, confidence, high self-esteem, good strong moral values, tolerance, honesty, sincerity,
perfect manners and RESPECT for ‘ALL’ are just some of the things that we strive to instill in ALL our students. Our golden rule that we all live by is, “Everyone has the right to be safe, to be happy and to learn”.
All our students are encouraged to excel in secular and non-secular subjects, integrate with other communities and strive towards a goal in life. They are encouraged to make their aspirations a reality. Our students are also taught to promote and propagate Islam by participating in various inter-school activities. Examples of these include celebratory occasions such as Harmony Day, Multicultural day, Inter-Faith Sports Activities, Students Uniting Nations (SUN) Summit, and Inter-faith visits to our neighbouring schools.
I would like to take the opportunity to commend all the staff for their sterling efforts in working so hard to attain our 2010 goals:
• To improve teaching, learning, and achievement in literacy and
numeracy, with particular focus
on developing 'critical' numeracy
and literacy
• To enhance children's thinking skills and problem-solving
abilities through high-quality
extension and enrichment
programmes
• To identify students at risk and put in place programmes to
support their learning and social
wellbeing

Alhumdulillah, the students are truly Blessed to have such dedicated, hardworking, diligent staff who cater not only for their students academic needs, but also provide a safe, warm, ‘family’ environment that caters for their wellbeing and meets all their needs. As a result of this amazing pastoral care our enrolments have peaked to 725, and the College has a growing waiting list extending well into 2012.

Attendance of students is monitored on a daily basis. In primary school, the attendance is taken as two half days at 9:00am and at 12:30pm. In high school, the attendance is recorded per period (total of six periods). If a student is absent in the morning, the office will send an sms to the parents to ascertain the reason of absence. This is followed up by a phone call if the parents have not responded to the sms. All students are requested to return to school with a note of absence or a medical certificate.
STAFF
There was a 95 % staff retention rate. Of the five staff departing at the end of the year two staff went on to promotional positions, one went to Port Hedland, another went to a Catholic Schools and one gentlemen retired to travel around the world.

STAFF PD Staff are encouraged to apply for any
professional development/professional
learning (PD/PL) that is appropriate to
their teaching duties and their current
level of professional or personal
development. Furthermore, staff are
encouraged to support any initiatives
undertaken by the Curriculum Council
school income broken down by funding
source (CC) or Independent Schools of
Western Australia (AISWA) that will
further their personal or professional
development to benefit the students in
their care and the College. This year
staff attended many whole school PD’s
(delivered by the Literacy and Numeracy
National Partnership Consultant) as the
goals were based on providing a holistic
education (competence in Literacy and
Numeracy) for all students, and
developing the social, emotional,
physical and spiritual needs of the
students.

BUILDING EDUCATION
REVOLUTION- Update As at December 2010 the $3.0M Dianella Multi Purpose Hall had a significant budget overrun on design issue. With the appointment of Greg Rowe and Associates (GRA) a QS was appointed to review the costing and develop cost saving options in conjunction with the Architects. The Development Approval (DA) issued by the City of Stirling had been received. It was essential therefore that the cost saving measures did not impact on the exterior design so as to avoid any further loss of time to secure a new DA. A program was developed by GRA which was adopted by the AIC for the finalisation of plans and detail to allow the application for the BL and calling of tenders in early 2011. This allowed the establishment of a finalisation date for the project of December 2011.
CONSTITUTION
It was decided to simplify the ownership arrangements of the college during the year to meet the requirements of the Department of Education Services arising from the School’s Registration Report. In future there will be one incorporated association which will own the three colleges and it was decided to continue with the name of the original association, Australian Islamic College (Perth) Inc, and to dissolve the other two associations. As a result when the new constitution for AIC (Perth) Inc is finalized, the assets of the Australian Islamic
College (North of the River) Inc will be transferred to AIC (Perth) Inc and then AIC (North of the River) Inc will be wound down. FUTURE PRIORITIES
• We endeavour to commence with the BER project (multi-purpose building, library and resource rooms) at the commencement of 2011
• Embedding the fee collection policy to ensure financial stability for the future of the College
• Budget for increased professional development of
With sincere gratitude I wish to thank
the new AIC board for their tireless
efforts to improve the AIC, our
parents for their support and
compliance in paying the school
fees, and I am indebted to all my
staff for their loyalty, commitment,
and dedication for making Dianella
one of the most sought after Islamic
Schools.
