LEVEL LOW DOWN Foundation

During Term 1 the Prep students have been exploring elements of the Design and Technologies curriculum during Investigations sessions, Numeracy and English sessions. Last Friday the students learnt about the term ‘littering’ and listened to stories about two boys named ‘Litterbug Doug’ and ‘Michael Recycle’. The students then discussed the importance of placing rubbish in the bin and the effects littering has upon our world. In an attempt to educate the whole school community, the Prep students decided to design their own bins, to encourage everyone to place their rubbish in the bin, rather than dropping it on the ground. First the students developed detailed designs for their bins, and some students even had a go at labelling the different parts of their bin. The next step was for the students to build their bins, using the plans they had developed. The students had a great time designing and making their bins and worked beautifully in the Prep space, sharing resources, helping one another and following their designs. Well done Prep!

Year One We have had such a wonderful start to Year One! This week we have enjoyed creating some fun Easter activities for the students to complete in the lead up to the Easter Holidays. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter break and we will see you on Tuesday 18th April! Miss Vallance, Miss Cain and Miss Wilson

Year Two What an amazing term! This week in English we have been experimenting with Structured Word Inquiry. Classes investigated the base 'play' and brainstormed a variety of suffixes such as 'ing' and 'ful'. In Maths we created individual word problems in Probability. There has been a flurry of activity in Investigations with Easter booklets written, cards composed and costumes made. The Year 2 team would like to wish you a fabulous Eater break. We hope you get time to make memories and unwind!

Year Three This week the Year 3 students have been very busy designing and constructing bridges, towers, and playgrounds out of newspapers and chickpeas. There have been some amazing designs and creations. Some architects in the making. We have been writing some amazing narrative stories concentrating on our sizzling starts, banning the boring and exciting endings. Crash! Went the thunder. It was pouring at Magic Beach. (At least we called it that.) We were camping under a tree full of pretty flowers. We couldn’t sleep. It was terrible. The wind was blowing so hard that the tree nearly fell down! In the morning I went to explore. It looked like the sea had exploded. By Evie 3S. Makes you want to know what happened doesn’t it?

We would like to wish all our students and families a very happy Easter. We hope you get to spend lots of time with family and friends over the break and rest up, ready for a jam-packed Term 2. We look forward to hearing about your holidays and all the fun things you got up to on Tuesday 18th April.

Year Four Happy campers having breakfast!

Year Five

The end of Term 1 already - where has the time gone? This term we attended camp at Sovereign Hill & PGL, dressed up as characters from the 1800s, rock climbed, participated in the mud run (just to name a few), completed our first ERPs for the year, participated in the Resilience Project, extended our knowledge of narrative writing by following the 7 steps, began reading clinic groups using CARS which has included inferring, author’s purpose and summarising and continued our place value knowledge about decimals and fractions. Well done Year 5s! Have a safe and happy holiday & Easter and we’ll see you back at school in Term 2.

Yesterday we were visited by Rod (Izzy’s

grandfather 5J) who owns an Omni Bus

from the early 1900s. He was kind

enough to share his bus between all the Year 5 classes and answer

their many questions.

Year Six Last Thursday Year 6 students were privileged to be trained as Beaumaris Primary School’s first Peacemakers. This involved learning and practising the appropriate strategies to resolve conflicts in the yard. Appreciation needs to be given to Emma Baldwin from Brighton Beach Primary School, who gave up her time to run this very important program for the students at our school. The whole school will reap the benefits of this program later in the year. Year 6 teachers would like to wish all the students and parents a restful and enjoyable Term 1 holiday period. See you next term!
