Diary of an Online Journal Club aged 3 ¾
months
Saturday 1st January 2011NEW YEAR’S DAY IN ENGLAND, IRELAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES
Today, I am remembering the old days when Pandora and Nigel would go to Training events without me. That’s all changed of course..
Now there’s no money so I must try to help. I’m online so there’s no travel and I’m free to join!So here are my New Year’s Resolutions:
I will promote evidence based practice
ask, acquire,appraise,apply,assess
I will help solve real problems
I will help develop Critical Appraisal skills
I will help keep you up-to-date on library
practice

I will not be blocked by firewalls!
Tuesday, 4th January 2011BANK HOLIDAY IN SCOTLAND
My Club is going well! Nigel said nobody would be interested but it just shows how much he knows!

We need rules for our Club.
(OK, they’re not rules, just step-by-step
instructions.)
Thursday, 6th January 2011
Rule 1: Suggest a topic (use the “Add comment” box)
Friday, 7th January 2011Feast of Raymond of Penyafort
Rule 2: This is true democracy. Other members now consider the topic….
..and if it’s a hit then everyone joins in the search for papers.
Rule 3: A new topic page is created by the
administrator.
Monday, 10th January 2011Partly sunny
You can load relevant
papers but please
check Copyright. It
would be just my luck
to get done for
breaching copyright!
Pandora said she’s just
going to provide the
citation/link using the
comments box. I
think that’s quite
clever actually.
Wednesday, 19th January 2011Full moon
Upload
files here
…..then create a focused question using the “SPICE”
box
Tuesday, 25th January 2011 Feast of Conversion of Paul
Rule 4: pick an article that
looks like it will answer the
question, and analyse it using
this
Nigel says this really helps with Critical
Appraisal skills. I told him we all knew that
already.
