3. Reading

This text is muy own creation. It is based on a colleague's presentation written in Spanish.

Window dressers are people who arrange goods in shop windows or within a shop itself. They work for different companies. They decorate shop windows to make them attractive in order to invite customers to enter the shop and sell them items.

It is paramount to create an inviting and enticing window display. The ideal tour for a seller is for clients to go through the whole shop. However, customers are usually very busy and they don't wander around the shop. Most of the time, they just fetch the items they need and go straight to the cash register. It is thus necesarry to make the most of the “warm” zone. The “warm” zone is where customers pass through as opposed to the “cold” zone. It is important to take advantage of them to display the most appealing items of the store. Through this technique the seller controls the customers in order to foster sales.

The façade and window of the shop are dedicated to the display of goods. It is the first impression customers have of a shop. Both the façade and the shop window need to be clear-cut, clean and well organised in order to promote the shop and the items through a visual tactic: an aesthetic arrangement. They are different types of shop displays. They depend on the size, the depth, height, shape, materials, complements, light, items and colours. Colours play an important role due to the spychological effect they have on people. Warm colours suggest excitment, dynamism and impulsiveness. Conversly cold colours imply tranquility. The window display has to show the products, the brands, the prices and the range of items available in the shop. The aim of the window-dressing is to catch customers' eyes and to give them a real image of what the shop offers without deceiving them.

These are the steps to follow in order to create an enticing and inviting window display. First, analyse the shop, study the window display and the product to display. Then, choose the message you want to convey through the window-dressing. After that, analise the complements which will help you achieve the message desired. Finally draw the window-dressing outline and then create it.

To sum up, bear in mind the above-given explanation to create a appealing window dressing. Remember, a window display that achieves to attract people will promote the shop and its items and will increase sales.
