Diego Grimaldi - FX Reel Breakdown

Project: “Dust”Studio: “Ember Lab”

Tools: Houdini, Maya, Nuke / Tasks: All FXResponsible for completing VFX shots from the beginningto the end. Create tools for water FX. Generate several FXof uids, rigid bodies, and particles interacting betweeneach others. Use and modify existing assets for smoke andparticle simulations.

Supercell: created using multiple layers of volumesand smoke simulation. The SOP based volume istranslated through a rotation matrix. The smoke layergets rotated in VOPPOP.

Fire, HeatHaze: I made the re with Flowline while the heathaze was created in Maya through sprites.

Ice System: I created an effective ice growing/receding FXsystem for the shots. I added smoke, particles, and debriselements to it. I shaded, lit, and rendered them all.

Water: I made a procedural system trying to effectivelyrecreate the look and motion of the water shot on setusing Vops and Ripple systems.

Project: “The Huntsman”Studio: “Double Negative”

Beaming FX: I modied a rig to work accordingly with theshot. Simmed, lit, and rendered it.

Water Splash: I created water sim interaction to explode withthe ships going through the water surface. Also made thecontrails for the ships. Simmed, lit, and rendered all FX.

For this shot I created roughly 20 elements of water, drops,splashesplashes, rivulets, bubbles splashing and running over theship for comp to make it loo believable.

Project: “Star Trek Beyond”Studio: “Double Negative”

I created FX, using my own and premade rigs, to make grounddestructions, debris, impacts and much more.

Helped create the blood rig to use throughout the show andcompleted several shots with it

Created all volumetric FX in the shot

Responsible for re rig creation to use in many shotsFire simulated at world center then translated to shotposition. Heat haze made with particles.
