Difference between section and article & general behavior SPIP is structured around two separate trees: The Section It includes articles, documents, news items, or pictures. It is an element of storage and filing in the site structure. The sections and sub-sections are comparable to the folders and subfolders of the computer used to organize and store information. Although the section may include an explanation, it is only to present the context and the content (e.g. articles). If it is empty, the section does not appear in the menu of the Public Interface. It will be only activated if content (article, paper, etc.) is published or added in the Public Area. Some sections, such as the agenda section, are specific and have specific functions in the management of their content and their presentation in the Public display. To delete a sub-section or a section, it must be empty. It should at first have removed all articles and all attached documents. See the tutorial "Delete a section". Obviously everyone can not achieve this type of operation, there are several user profiles: - An Administrator can act in all categories (this section is reserved for the administrator of Salto Participation and Technical webmaster of the site) - A Restricted Administrator can manage one or more sections which have been attributed by the administrator (this section is assigned to the trainers and National Agencies) - An Author has no influence on the sections, he can only submit articles which will have to be validated by an administrator or restricted administrator (if the proposed article has a link with the section he manages). In the case of the public edition form present in certain sections the author has the opportunity to directly edit an article without going through the validation step. See the tutorial "Public edition - participants". The difference between a section and a sub-section is defined only by the fact that the sub-section is within a section. The only section that are not sub-sections are the ones situated at the site’s root, on the first level of the tree structure. Except for the last two points, the status of a section (root) is the same as that of a sub-heading.

Page 1: Difference between section and article & general behavior

Besides, it is also possible to move a root section within another section or sub-section: it will become itself a sub-section (the reverse is also possible: to move a sub-section to the root of the site). See the tutorial "Move a section". The article The article is a text that can be fitted and which it is possible to add attachments of any type (images, sounds and videos). If section or sub-section are more comparable to a folder or subfolder, an article would rather be equivalent to a file (a document Word for example). The article contains the information and not the file (equivalent to section and which is just a storage unit). Thereafter the article may be completed with corrections and additional documents. Documents will be displayed in galleries structured by document type or integrated into the text. The changes may be made by the author, the administrator or the restricted administrator. An article is necessarily contained in a section or sub-section and therefore can not be edited directly or placed at the site root. 1 Note: Article may have several statuses. By default, at the time of its creation, it will be considered as being written → "editing in progress":

It will be visible in the Public Area when it is published online → "published online":

It will obviously be possible to put an article previously published in the state of "editing in progress". In case of need, the article may be deleted. Pay attention: there is no turning back, the article may not be restored later.

As indicated above in the part "section" of this article, an author recording an article has only two possibilities: - By default, the article will be as for other profiles in the state of "editing in progress" - Apart the default status, the only option proposed to the author will be "Submitted for evaluation"

The following text will then appear:

When an administrator with rights to publish will go into the private interface, it will be told of the existence of one or more proposed articles and may choose to validate them. The article will be published.

Reminder: In the case of the public edition form present in certain categories, the author has the opportunity to directly edit an article without going through the validation step. See the tutorial "Public edition - participants".
