To meet the requirements of water of the people living in cities we use water from rivers and lakes. How is river water purified? Note the different stages in water purification.
3. Aeration : The oxygen content of water is retained in this stage. The water in the reservoir is allowed to flow as small streams into another tank where it is mixed with air.
4. Filtration : Water is filtered by passing through sand and gravel.
5. Sterilization : Chlorine is passed through water to kill the bacteria that may still be present in water. Water is now purified and can be used as drinking water
