Director’s Message
“For I know my redeemer lives…”
As I see classrooms and the Centre with its usual hum of activity, it reminds me
of God’s faithfulness through the years with us. He slowly guided us in our ways
as we started from humble beginnings to where we are now. We started the
centre with 12 children in Vikaspuri, New Delhi. Over the last 8 years, our work
has grown, we have moved from Vikaspuri to Dwarka, and we now work with 40
students and have 26 staff and 4 consultants. We have had faithful partners like
The Hans Foundation, Reconciled World, and Friends of Ashish who have stuck
with us and supported the work of serving India’s differently abled. We have had
you, parents and friends, who have stood with us, prayed for us and supported
us through volunteering, prayers, finances, love and encouragement. We at The
Ashish Foundation, are blessed in so many ways.
Our students are our biggest inspiration. As they twirl, study, do therapies, and
struggle with their sensory issues, I am reminded of what great fighters they are. Can we at the Ashish Foundation be any less? We now serve students age 4-25
years, and each student has taught us so much. Many medals have been won at the Special Olympics, many milestones crossed, many victories won, many hopes
rekindled. We have also trained our staff so well that 4 centres focusing on the
disabled have now been established by our former staff.
Currently, we are running another 6-month training program through the
support of Elim Christian Services to help staff upgrade their skills and to learn
more about working with people with autism.
At the end, all I can say is that we could not have done this without YOU and
God’s faithfulness.
We thank you, and bless you.

Background of AFDA
Geeta Mondol established Ashish Foundation for the Differently Abled Charitable
Trust (AFDA) in 2007 to serve the needs of children with autism and other mental and physical disabilities, and to mentor their families in meeting the specific
needs of their children. AFDA is based in Dwarka, New Delhi, and primarily serves
children and families in the greater National Capital Region, but AFDA also trains
and mentors many disability-focused organisations across India and abroad.
Vision
AFDA envisions transformed communities of people who view and value each
differently abled person as created in God’s image, and inherently able to attain
his or her God-given potential to lead a fulfilling life.
Mission
To provide holistic education and support to children with disabilities and to their families so they can achieve their God-given potential; and to create awareness in
the community for constructive response and engagement.
Values
Following are the core values of AFDA as selected by the staff.
OptimismPatience Teamwork
Child-Focused
Compassion Respect Non-Violence
Trust

Belief
• Each child is created in the image of God. • Each child is created for a purpose. • Each child is born with the potential to achieve
that purpose for which he/she was created. • No one is exempt from contributing back to
society. • All of us are differently abled.
Motto
“Your work produced by faith; your labour prompted by love; your endurance inspired by
hope.” (1 Thessalonians 1:3, The Bible)
Objectives of AFDA
To provide holistic education, support and training to children with
developmental disabilities, with a special focus on autism, as well as
counselling and guidance to their families. To assist and train children with disabilities to be self-reliant and fruitful members of the community. To ensure that lack of finances does not prevent parents from providing
quality education for their children. To create awareness of and
sensitivity towards persons with
disabilities within communities, and transform the way in which
people view persons with
disabilities. To involve communities in
providing support for and
assistance to persons with
disabilities. To connect families who have
children with disabilities so that they might support and encourage
one another. To spiritually nurture children with disabilities and their families. To advocate for children with disabilities, especially those with autism, and
their families. To train people to provide professional care and assistance to children with
disabilities. 3
Projects
The Ashish Centre is our early intervention education
centre for children who are differently abled. We provide a
well-rounded, holistic education which addresses the needs
of each student. Each child has an Individual Education Plan
established through the
collaboration of special education
consultants, the parents, AFDA’s
Program Manager, and speech and
occupational therapists. Due to
the special needs of our children, we maintain a ratio of 1:2, adult to
students, at the Centre.
In 2014-15, AFDA provided partial to full scholarships for 32 of our 40 students. Some of our students
come from some of Delhi’s wealthiest families, while others
come from very low income families. All children at the
Centre, regardless of religious, economic or caste
background, are given equal treatment, love and respect.
Ankur provides life-skills and
vocational training for students age
16 and above. We help students
develop independent living skills like
dressing, hygiene, shopping, and food
preparation. Our students also have
physical and leisure activities such as
skating, dancing, cricket and basketball. Finally, Ankur trains students in vocational skills through the creation of various handicrafts, and the packaging of spices.

thrift store supported by young
adults with autism when it opened in
2011. Students work part-time in
Second Chance, sorting and
organising the store, gaining
employable skills. The store
supports the needs of low-income
families in the surrounding
community by giving them the
chance to purchase affordable re-sale goods.
