Dear Shareholders,

Once again, I am pleased to present to you our AnnualReport and Financial Statements for DiGi.Com Berhad(DiGi) for the financial year ended 30 April 2001.

It goes without saying that the recovering economicstability in the region has been a significant factor increating a conducive operating environment for us thispast financial year. Within this encouraging setting, wehave maintained a strong and consistent pace of growth,spearheaded by strategic guidance from the Board,excellent leadership and plan execution by themanagement team, as well as unwavering staffcommitment.

The invaluable support and investment commitment ofour foreign partner, Telenor, has also been a keystoneof our continued growth, as their active partnership interms of new-generation technology transfer gives us aclear advantage over our competitors. We havebenefited from their vast experience and knowledge inthe development of greater value-added services which,I believe, will keep us at the cutting-edge of the fastconverging IT and telecommunications industries in theglobal landscape. We have also gained much from thehands-on leadership style of the experienced ChiefOperating Officers who held office in the past year,namely Mr Stein Hansen, and his successor, Mr ToreJohnsen, who was appointed in mid-February this year.

Saya sekali lagi dengan sukacitanya membentangkanLaporan Tahunan dan Penyata Kewangan bagi DiGi. ComBerhad (DiGi) untuk tahun kewangan berakhir 30 April2001.

Tidak dinafikan bahawa keadaan ekonomi yang semakinstabil di rantau ini menjadi faktor penting dalammewujudkan suasana operasi yang sesuai bagi kami padatahun kewangan yang lepas. Dalam suasana yangmenggalakkan ini, kami telah mengekalkan kadarpertumbuhan yang kukuh dan konsisten, dipacu olehpanduan strategik yang diberikan oleh Lembaga,kepimpinan dan pelaksanaan rancangan yang cemerlangoleh pihak pengurusan, serta komitmen kakitangan yangtidak berbelah-bahagi.

Sokongan kukuh dan komitmen pelaburan daripadarakan kongsi asing kami, Telenor, juga menjadi teraskepada pertumbuhan berterusan kami, kerana perananaktif mereka dari segi pemindahan teknologi generasi barumemberikan kami kelebihan jelas berbanding dengan parapesaing. Kami telah mendapat faedah daripada pengalamandan pengetahuan meluas mereka dalam pembangunanperkhidmatan nilai tambah yang lebih baik, yang sayapercaya akan memastikan kami mendapat keupayaanterkini dalam industri IT dan telekomunikasi yang semakinpantas bercantum di peringkat global. Kami juga telahmemanfaatkan kepimpinan berpengalaman Encik SteinHansen, Pegawai Operasi Kanan yang telah memegangjawatan pada tahun lalu, dan penggantinya, Encik ToreJohnsen yang telah dilantik pada pertengahan bulan Februaritahun ini.

I am proud to say that we have seen a dramatic surge inour active customer base this past year, charting agrowth rate of 70%. We also carved a significantmilestone when we closed the financial year with acustomer base of more than one million mobilesubscribers. This achievement, ahead of marketexpectations, proves that our ongoing investmentefforts to build brand credibility and inspire marketconfidence are bearing fruit, and that the long-termgrowth strategies we have put in place are clearly leadingus in the desired direction.

Another obvious sign of our positive growth trend isreflected in the consistent and steadily improving Grouprevenue that we have registered with each successivequarter of the year under review. In the wake of ourmaiden profit achieved in the previous financial year, theGroup recorded an impressive profit after tax ofRM190.0 million, which is a 719 per cent improvementfrom the RM23.2 million profit after tax reported lastfinancial year. The sustained growth in revenue has beenconsistently attributed to prudent financial managementand the increasing market demand for DiGi’s mobileservices, as well as its international carrier services.

Indeed, the encouraging market response to DiGi’sproducts and services has been secured amidst intenseindustry competition, particularly in the mobile sector.To our credit, we have continued to maintain ourposition as a leading player in this highly competitivemarket, which continues to be our core focus area. Inthe prepaid segment particularly, where we hold thelargest market share, DiGi’s leadership stature hasremained unchallenged in the year under review. Wehave achieved this through developing a long-termrelationship with our customers, whereby we arecommitted to listening to them and responding withquality service and innovative solutions that are tailoredspecifically towards meeting their lifestyle needs. Bydoing this, we have not only earned their continuedconfidence, but also their strong respect as a serviceoperator that not only delivers on its commitment, butwhich responds with its customers’ best interests at heart.

Saya berbangga untuk memaklumkan bahawa kami telahmencatatkan peningkatan besar dalam bilangan pelanggan aktifpada tahun yang dilaporkan, dengan kadar pertumbuhansebanyak 70%. Kami juga telah mencapai mercu tanda pentingapabila mengakhiri tahun kewangan dengan lebih daripadasejuta pelanggan komunikasi mudah-alih. Pencapaian ini, yangmengatasi jangkaan pasaran, membuktikan bahawa usahapelaburan berterusan kami untuk membina kredibiliti jenamadan mencetus keyakinan pasaran membuahkan hasil, danstrategi pertumbuhan jangka panjang pelaksanaan kamijelas memacu kami ke arah yang dikehendaki.

Satu lagi petanda jelas trend pertumbuhan positif dapat dilihatdaripada hasil pendapatan Kumpulan yang konsisten andsemakin bertambah baik. Kami telah mencatatkan peningkatanberturut-turut pada setiap suku tahun yang dilaporkan. Lanjutandaripada keuntungan pertama yang kami capai pada tahunkewangan lalu, Kumpulan telah mencatatkan keuntunganselepas cukai berjumlah RM190.0 juta, satu pencapaian yangsungguh menggalakkan dan merupakan peningkatan 719peratus dari keuntungan selepas cukai RM23.2 juta yangdilaporkan pada tahun kewangan sebelumnya. Pertumbuhanhasil yang berterusan dicapai secara konsisten menerusipengurusan kewangan yang teliti dan permintaan pasaran yangsemakin meningkat bagi perkhidmatan mudah-alih danperkhidmatan perantauan antarabangsa DiGi.

Ternyata bahawa sambutan pasaran yang menggalakkanterhadap produk dan perkhidmatan DiGi dicapai walaupunmenghadapi persaingan industri yang sengit, khususnya dalamsektor mudah-alih. Kami gembira kerana dapat terusmengekalkan kedudukan kami dikalangan peserta utama dalampasaran yang sungguh mencabar ini, dan ini akan terus menjaditumpuan teras kami. Dalam segmen pra-bayar khususnya, dimana kami memegang bahagian pasaran yang paling tinggi,kedudukan kepimpinan DiGi tidak tercabar pada tahun yangdilaporkan. Kejayaan ini dicapai dengan membina hubunganjangka panjang dengan para pelanggan. Kami prihatinterhadap kehendak mereka dan bertindakbalas denganmemberikan perkhidmatan berkualiti dan rumusan inovatif yangdisesuaikan khas untuk memenuhi keperluan gaya hidupmereka. The DiGi brand is synonymous with innovation anddynamism, and DiGi is almost an industry legend in terms ofthe series of firsts that have been achieved since we beganoperations, establishing our reputation as a markettrendsetter. We are highly-responsive to what our customersneed and want, and we are committed to providing them withvalue-added products and services which are both relevantand meaningful to their individual lifestyle demands. Ourunwavering focus on providing customer-delight means thatwe constantly challenge the limits to innovate industry-leadingofferings, all developed with an exceptional standard ofservice that exemplifies DiGi’s professionalism andcommitment to its customers nationwide.

Towards this end, we have over the past year developedseveral cutting-edge products and services, driven by astrong sense of responsibility to uphold the tenets of ourphilosophy of “Connecting You to Your World”. In strivingtowards enhancing the quality of our customers’ lives, weare ever mindful of the need to provide them with specificsolutions to meet their individual needs for communication,connectivity, access to information and security.

One of the exciting new services launched this past year isour djuice™ mobile Internet service which has becomemore than just an extension of our mobile services, as itprovides the platform for the recently rolled-out DiGi MobileMovie-Booking Service. As the demand for mobility increases,we are confident that services such as this are thepersonalised touches that underscore our differentiationfrom our competitors, and we will continue to focus ourefforts on the core activities within the mobilecommunications sector. In keeping with this also, we aresingle-minded in upgrading our network quality andcoverage through our ongoing infrastructural investment.

Apart from developing and rolling out these value-addedservices in the year under review, DiGi also forgedstrategic alliances with leading local financial institutions,well-known international lifestyle brands and cutting-edgecontent and solution providers. These tie-ups, amongothers, were carefully developed in our efforts to give ourcustomers up-to-date and convenient products andservices which fit in seamlessly with their dynamic lifestyledemands. It is this emphasis that encapsulates all ourstrategies to date, and which, I am confident, is the bestway forward as we continue to strengthen our positionand aggressively meet our business objectives.

Jenama DiGi sering dikaitkan dengan inovasi dan dinamisme, danDiGi boleh dikatakan mencapai status lagenda dalam industrikerana mempelopori pelbagai kemajuan sejak kami memulakanoperasi, lantas memperkukuhkan reputasi kami sebagai pemacutrend pasaran. Kami sangat peka kepada keperluan dankehendak pelanggan kami, dan berkomitmen untuk memberikanmereka produk dan perkhidmatan nilai tambah yang sesuai danbermakna kepada keperluan individu gaya hidup masing-masing.Tumpuan tidak berbelah-bahagi kami untuk menggembirakanpelanggan mendorong kami terus berusaha untuk menawarkanproduk dan perkhidmatan inovatif yang memimpin industri, yangdibangunkan dengan tahap piawaian luar biasa yangmencerminkan profesionalisme dan komitmen DiGi kepada parapelanggannya di seluruh negara.

Dalam usahameningkatkan kualiti kehidupan para pelanggan, kami sedarbahawa kami perlu membekalkan pelanggan dengan rumusankhusus untuk memenuhi keperluan mereka dari segi komunikasi,sambungan, akses kepada maklumat dan keselamatan.

Salah satu daripada perkhidmatan baru yang menarik yangdilancarkan pada tahun lalu ialah perkhidmatan Internet mudah-alih djuice™. Perkhidmatan tersebut bukan setakat lanjutankepada perkhidmatan mudah-alih kami, tetapi ia merupakanlandasan bagi Perkhidmatan Tempahan Wayang Mudah-alihDiGi. Memandangkan permintaan untuk daya mudah-alihsemakin meningkat, kami yakin bahawa perkhidmatan sepertiini memberikan sentuhan peribadi yang membezakan kamidaripada para pesaing, dan kami akan meneruskan usahapenumpuan kami terhadap kegiatan-kegiatan teras di dalamsektor komunikasi mudah-alih. Selaras dengan itu, kamimemberikan tumpuan khusus untuk mempertingkatkan kualitirangkaian dan liputan kami menerusi pelaburan infrastrukturyang berterusan.

Selain daripada membangunkan dan mengeluarkan perkhidmatannilai tambah ini pada tahun yang dilaporkan, DiGi juga telahmembentuk pakatan strategik dengan institusi-institusi kewangantempatan, jenama-jenama gaya hidup antarabangsa serta parapenyedia kandungan dan rumusan terkini. Pakatan-pakatantersebut telah dirancang dengan teliti dalam usaha kamimenyediakan produk dan perkhidmatan yang terkini dan mudahdigunakan serta disesuaikan dengan keperluan gaya hidup dinamikpara pelanggan kami. Penekanan inilah yang mencerminkansemua strategi kami sehingga kini, dan saya yakin bahawa iamerupakan cara terbaik untuk maju ke hadapan, dalam usahakami terus memperkukuhkan kedudukan dan memenuhimatlamat perniagaan kami secara agresif.

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCEFor the year ended 30 April 2001, the Group achieved a 38per cent increase in revenue to RM907.8 million fromRM655.8 million registered in the previous year. Earningsper share for the same period soared to 25.3 sen from 3.4sen in the preceding financial year. Once again there wereno taxation charges, minority interests and exceptional orextraordinary items this financial year, which therefore sawthe Group achieve a profit after tax of RM190.0 million,establishing a steady and impressive upward trend sinceachieving our maiden profit of RM23.2 million the previousyear.

The sustained revenue growth isprimarily attributed to theincreasing demand for mobileservices and international carrierservices which has resulted in anunprecedented acceleration insubscriber growth. We continuedto remain profitable from the veryfirst quarter of the financial yearand recorded huge jumps inoperating profits with eachsuccessive quarter. In fact, as earlyas the third quarter of the yearunder review, our consistentperformance drew market analyststo take a second look at the telcosector. We have been referred toas “the darling of telco stock” andhave been assigned strong Buyrecommendations, reflecting the fact that we haveestablished a strong presence in terms of our fundamentalappeal, strength of management and attractiveness ofvaluation.

Upon due consideration, the Board of Directorsrecommends that no dividend be paid for the year underreview.

PENCAPAIAN KEWANGANBagi tahun berakhir 30 April 2001, Kumpulan mencapaipeningkatan hasil sebanyak 38 peratus kepada RM907.8 jutaberbanding dengan RM655.8 juta yang dicatatkan pada tahunsebelumnya. Pendapatan sesaham bagi tempoh yang samameningkat kepada 25.3 sen daripada 3.4 sen pada tahunkewangan sebelumnya. Sekali lagi, tiada cukai dikenakan dantiada peruntukan dibuat bagi kepentingan minoriti dan item luarbiasa pada tahun kewangan ini. Justeru itu, Kumpulan mencapaikeuntungan selepas cukai sebanyak RM190.0 juta. Prestasitersebut merupakan satu peningkatan yang mantap dan

menggalakkan sejak syarikat mencatatkankeuntungan pertama sebanyak RM23.2juta pada tahun sebelumnya.

Pertumbuhan pendapatan yang berterusandicapai terutamanya kerana permintaanyang semakin tinggi bagi perkhidmatanmudah-alih dan perkhidmatan perantauanantarabangsa, yang telah mengakibatkanpeningkatan pantas dalam jumlahpelanggan kami. Kami terus menyaksikankeuntungan sejak suku pertama tahunkewangan dan telah mencatatkanpeningkatan besar dalam keuntunganoperasi pada setiap suku yang berikutan.Malah seawal suku ketiga tahun yangdilaporkan, pencapaian konsisten kamitelah menarik perhatian para penganalisapasaran untuk membuat penilaian semulasektor telekom. Kami telah digelar“mutiara saham telekom” dan telah

ditandakan sebagai saham yang sesuai dibeli, mencerminkankelebihan kami dari segi nilai asas, kekuatan pengurusan danpenilaian yang menarik.

Setelah dilakukan pertimbangan yang sewajarnya, PihakLembaga Pengarah tidak mencadangkan pembayaran sebarangdividen bagi tahun yang dilaporkan.

CURRENT CHALLENGESNetworks

Upgrading network performance is an industry-wideconcern, and DiGi has put in place consistent andproactive measures to address this challenge. Holdingfast to our commitment to enhance the quality of ourcustomers’ mobile communications and services, weinitiated a capital investment in the first quarter of thefinancial year to expand and upgrade our networkquality and coverage. In line with this, we successfullyextended our network capacity by more than 50 percent throughout Malaysia over the last year and we willcontinue to focus our efforts on expanding our fullydigital network in tandem with our actively-growingcustomer base.

DiGi will also continue to improve coverage in theexisting market centres and further upgrade ournetwork infrastructure through value-added networkservices. To this end, we signed a major infrastructurecontract with Ericsson the past year for the expansionof our existing GSM 1800 network to boost coverageand quality of service. The contract also includes thesupply and implementation of GPRS services and todate, DiGi has already established a live GPRS-readynetwork in the Klang Valley. Our network roll-out plansare well on track and we are certain that there will be agreater emphasis on enhancing our networkperformance levels in the coming year.

CABARAN SEMASARangkaian

Peningkatan prestasi rangkaian menjadi satu isu yang harusditangani oleh seluruh industri. Bagi memenuhi komitmen DiGiuntuk mempertingkatkan kualiti komunikasi dan perkhidmatanmudah-alih para pelanggan, kami telah membuat perbelanjaanmodal pada suku pertama tahun kewangan untukmemperluaskan dan mempertingkatkan kualiti dan liputanrangkaian kami. Sehubungan itu, kami telah berjayamempertingkatkan keupayaan rangkaian sebanyak lebihdaripada 50 peratus di seluruh Malaysia sepanjang tahun laludan akan terus memberi tumpuan untuk memperkembangkanrangkaian digital penuh kami selaras dengan bilangan pelangganyang semakin bertambah.

DiGi juga akan terus memperluaskan liputan di pusat-pusatpasaran semasa dan mempertingkatkan lagi kualiti infrastrukturrangkaian dengan perkhidmatan rangkaian nilai tambah.Untuk itu, kami telah menandatangani satu kontrakinfrastruktur yang besar dengan Ericsson pada tahun laluuntuk memperkembangkan rangkaian GSM 1800 kamiyang sedia ada bagi mempertingkatkan liputan dan kualitiperkhidmatan. Kontrak ini juga termasuk bekalan danimplementasi perkhidmatan GPRS dan sehingga kini, DiGi sudahmembina rangkaian yang sedia-GPRS di Lembah Klang.Pelaksanaan rangkaian kami tepat mengikut jadual perancangandan kami yakin bahawa pada tahun yang akan datang, lebihbanyak penekanan akan diberikan kepada peningkatan lagiprestasi rangkaian kami.

Information Technology

As telecommunications service providers face thechallenges of an increasingly competitive serviceenvironment, it is vital that we continue to meet ourcustomers’ high expectations and demands in terms ofservice assurance, to ensure that our revenue targets arereached. In this, the effective deployment of InformationTechnology (IT) is a key enabling factor in anyorganisation, particularly in the telecommunicationsindustry where we are seeing the convergence ofcomputers and communications. The advent of thesemodern technologies has made possible the introductionof a new range of niche business markets, which arerapidly transforming the face of the industry.

Acknowledging this fact, we have taken concretemeasures towards positioning DiGi well in the mobileInternet and e-commerce environment, such as theongoing development of in-house expertise to providekey operational support and business enhancement, aswell as by conscious cultivation of an organisation-wideInternet culture. In addition to this, several key ITinitiatives have been planned in the year ahead to providestrategic support for our customer-centric product andservice offerings, and overall efficiency in our customerservice operations. The challenge that lies ahead is thetimely and successful implementation of these initiatives,along with the prioritisation of innovative IT solutions interms of product development.

Teknologi Maklumat

Di masa para pengendali perkhidmatan telekomunikasimenghadapi cabaran dalam suasana perkhidmatan yangsemakin sengit, adalah penting bagi kami untuk terus memenuhijangkaan dan permintaan pelanggan kami yang tinggi dari segijaminan perkhidmatan, bagi memastikan sasaran hasil kamitercapai. Justeru itu, penggunaan Teknologi Maklumat (IT)dengan cara yang berkesan ialah satu faktor penjana pentingdalam mana-mana organisasi, khususnya dalam industritelekomunikasi di mana komputer dan komunikasi semakinbercantum. Kehadiran teknologi moden tersebut telahmembolehkan pasaran baru perniagaan khusus diperkenalkan,yang kini giat menukar wajah industri ini.

Menyedari hakikat ini, kami telah mengambil langkah yangmantap untuk meletakkan DiGi pada kedudukan yang baik dalambidang Internet mudah-alih dan e-dagang, seperti pembangunankepakaran dalaman yang berterusan untuk membekalkansokongan penting dari segi operasi dan meningkatkan keupayaanperniagaan, serta menggalakkan pembangunan budaya Internetdi seluruh organisasi. Di samping itu, beberapa inisiatif IT pentingtelah dirancang pada tahun yang akan datang untuk memberikansokongan strategik kepada produk dan perkhidmatan kami yangtertumpu kepada pelanggan dan untuk meningkatkan kecekapankeseluruhan operasi perkhidmatan pelanggan kami. Cabaran yangbakal dihadapi ialah keupayaan melaksanakan inisiatif-inisiatiftersebut dengan berjaya dan tepat pada masanya, di sampingmengutamakan rumusan IT yang inovatif dalam pembangunanproduk.

With our entry into the mobile Internet market as aserious player, it is essential that there is a reliable andfunctional mobile infrastructure in place to ensure theworkability of the end-to end process of GPRStechnology and its related applications. This, and theseamless integration of services and applications formobile Internet as well as portal infrastructure are keyconsiderations in the deployment of this service, thesuccessful implementation of which will ensure that DiGitakes centrestage in the Internet arena.

Another key measurement of IT operations is the billingstrategy employed, from both a subscriber andinterconnect perspective. The new Internet and datawave that is taking the telecommunications industry tonew heights has given rise to the need for morecompetitive services with real-time billing capabilities totrigger off increased usage and hence, higher revenue.With the introduction of SMS, WAP and GPRS-enabledservices, more sophisticated and flexible tariffcapabilities are demanded of contemporary billingsystems. As such, we will continue to perform timelyupgrades of our billing system in order to enhancebusiness functionality, such as through the provisioningof personal and differentiated service billing capabilities.Initiatives such as this will ensure that we not onlydevelop fully in our role as a service-based organisation,but also earn DiGi an industry reputation as an authorityin the planning, development and consistent delivery ofquality IT services.

Dengan kemasukan kami sebagai peserta serius ke dalampasaran Internet mudah-alih, kami perlu membina infrastrukturmudah-alih fungsian yang boleh dipercayai untuk menjaminteknologi GPRS dan aplikasinya yang berkaitan dapatd i laksanakan dar i mula hingga akhir. Pelaksanaantersebut, dan penyepaduan lancar perkhidmatan dan aplikasi bagiInternet mudah-alih dan juga infrastruktur gerbangmerupakan pertimbangan penting dalam pelaksanaanperkhidmatan ini. Kejayaannya akan memastikan DiGi menjaditumpuan dalam arena Internet.

Satu lagi ciri penting operasi IT ialah strategi pengeluaran bil, iaitudari perspektif pelanggan dan juga perspektif antara-sambungan.Arus baru Internet dan data yang memacu industritelekomunikasi ke puncak baru telah mewujudkan keperluanuntuk perkhidmatan yang lebih berdaya saing menerusikeupayaan bil masa sebenar bagi mencetuskan peningkatanpenggunaan, yang seterusnya menghasilkan perolehan yang lebihtinggi. Dengan memperkenalkan SMS, WAP dan perkhidmatanyang berlandaskan teknologi GPRS, sistem bil kontemporarimemerlukan keupayaan tarif yang lebih canggih danfleksibel. Justeru itu, kami akan terus mempertingkatkansistem bil dari masa ke semasa untuk menambahkan fungsiperniagaan, seperti membekalkan perkhidmatan bil yangdisesuaikan secara peribadi dan dapat diperbezakan. Customer Service

Understanding our customers’ service expectations isthe first step towards being able to deliver our DiGibrand of best-in-class service, and to providedifferentiated levels of service across all touch points.Our priority is always to ensure that our customersreceive personalised and uniform quality-of-service,regardless of their choice of contact method. Withintoday’s highly competitive business environment, it isbecoming increasingly clear that personalised andtargeted service is the key differentiating factor whichwill enable us to rise above the competition.

It is vital, therefore, that DiGi continues to ensure thehighest levels of service to accommodate our rapidlyexpanding customer base. Keeping with our mission todelight our customers, I am pleased to note that variousmeasures have been taken to strengthen the customerservices division as they manage the influx of customerdemands that come in around the clock.

In ensuring that service quality is not compromised,service performance targets must constantly be in astate of review and upgrade, so that customersatisfaction levels continue to improve. The effectivemaximisation of manpower resources as well as theclose monitoring of staff performance in terms ofprofessionalism, courtesy and knowledge are alsoimportant considerations in seeing that we are able tomanage and resolve customer issues promptly andefficiently. With this in mind, we have already developedand implemented high quality control systems to ensurethat we continue to maintain best-in-class service inclose compliance with the established operationalprocedures. Additionally, the inculcation of a qualityservice culture in all aspects of the business is beingeffected through ongoing targeted training that equipsstaff with the necessary job skills to enhance allcustomer interface activities.

FUTURE PLANSGiven the encouraging market response to DiGi’s productsand services, as well as the perceived potential of thetelecommunications sector, we have invested withconfidence in key aspects of the business which promise togive us positive returns in terms of heightened service andperformance. These aspects include infrastructuralupgrades, product branding and development, customerservice and employee training, all of which have enabled usto grow DiGi’s core lines of business.

Our ambition for DiGi to establish itselfas leading player in the mobile segmentand create a market presence in thevarious core businesses reflects ourdetermination to be seen as an industryauthority who is contemporary,dynamic and fast-moving in response totechnology changes and customerdemand. We are value-driven, in thatwe not only offer high value-addedservices and long-term savings todelight our customers, but haveconsistently provided investors with theassurance of strong financial growth andlong-term profitability. More and more,we are establishing a strong corporatepresence that commands therecognition of our key stakeholders aswe grow towards becoming an industryauthority.

As a full-fledged telecommunications service provideraddressing all market segments, we will continue tostrengthen our involvement in the core business areas. Thepositive growth seen in our mobile service segment justifiesour ongoing focus of strengthening market share,particularly in the higher-end market segments. Concertedefforts will also be taken to elevate the DiGi brandperception in the key market segments, in tandem with thecontinuous roll-out of creative and innovative products andservices that will firmly establish DiGi’s position as thepreferred service operator.

As the leading mobile prepaid operator in ahighly-competitive segment, we will take the highroad in deploying differentiation strategies thatwill ensure DiGi stands out from the numerousmarket offerings. In this segment, we will hold toour well-proven roll-out formula of targetedsegment offerings which feature interactiveservices that are lifestyle-centric and value-addedthrough smart partnerships with world-classlifestyle brands. The mobile postpaid segment will also be astrong area of focus, as DiGi Mobile One gains increasingpopularity in the market. Targeted at a more sophisticatedcustomer market, efforts are already underway to offer moreup-to-date, value-added services to our subscriber-basedcustomers through creative cross-bundling of our innovativeproducts and services.

DiGi’s multi-channel sales and distribution network,regarded as one of the most extensive in the industry, hasbeen successful in reaching high-quality niche markets.Efforts to establish new and creative non-traditionaldistribution channels are ongoing as we look to cater to thecommunication needs of previously untapped and emergingcustomer profiles. Existing dealer channels and incentiveschemes that form the backbone of the traditional directdistribution channel will also continue to be activelystrengthened and developed.

In mobilising these future plans, we are mindful of theimportance of dependable network and infrastructuralquality and will remain committed to our short- and long-term goals of increasing our existing network capacity ina consistent, systematic manner. Initiatives to improve thequality and capacity of the network were introduced inthe past year and will be an ongoing means of optimisingcoverage. Value-added services will also continue tocharacterise our network functionality and customers canexpect to experience enhanced voicemail and messagingservices, among other exciting features, with theextension of our GPRS-ready network throughoutMalaysia.

PROSPECTS FOR 2002The communications and multimedia sector has beencharting impressive growth, thanks to the government’songoing initiatives to build a strong knowledge base thatwill propel us into the new economy. This, we believe, isa clear sign of the inherent growth potential within the telecommunications industry as consumer demandincreases in direct proportion to the rapid technologicaladvances we are witnessing today.

Our commitment to providing excellence intelecommunications is a key factor in determining DiGi’scontinued growth in the year ahead. By leveraging on theknow-how and expertise of our strategic partners, andensuring the highest industry standards in deliveringproducts, services and technology that meet ourcustomers’ expectations, DiGi is well-positioned forlong-term growth and profitability. With our expertise,technology, resources and strong global linkages, we aregaining recognition as a natural partner in any effort togrow the country’s knowledge economy. PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTSDiGi maintained an impressive performance in the financialyear under review, with the Group charting several milestoneaccomplishments since achieving its maiden profit in financialyear 2000. An unprecedented acceleration in mobile subscribergrowth contributed substantially to a huge jump in the Group’sprofits, with the total revenue for the year under reviewrecording a marked increase of 38 per cent from the previousfinancial year. The Group signed up one million mobilesubscribers in early March 2001, owing to the combinedsuccess of its innovative prepaid and postpaid segments. Theconsistent positive results, improving each successive quarterof the financial year under review, were attributed to lowerinterest expenses and the increasing demand for mobile andinternational carrier services.

Despite intense competition from other players in themarketplace, there has been a high response rate to DiGi’s mobileservices, which have continued to register consistent net additionsevery month. The Group has successfully held its strong positionin the prepaid segment, and continues to maintain its leadership inthe market it created. Prepaid numbers have grown substantiallyin the year under review, building on the strong foundation of theprevious year’s prepaid subscriber total.

Also chalking up impressive figures in the mobile subscribertally is the Group’s postpaid offering, DiGi Mobile One,launched in the second quarter of the financial year underreview. With the roll-out of this innovative product, DiGiscored a first as the only service operator in the country tolaunch a revolutionary and cost-saving postpaid mobileservice that is specifically tailored to suit the different usageand lifestyle patterns of customers in line with fullderegulation on pricing. To date, DiGi Mobile One has beenseeing record sales numbers, thanks in no small part to themaximising of creative bundling as means of attracting higher-end market segments.

DiGi’s new mobile Internet service, djuice™, allows users theflexibility of customising their mobile phones to access theirWAP content of choice. This exciting and versatile portal is aclear reflection of DiGi’s commitment to rolling out productsand services that translate into relevance and convenience forcustomers. DiGi’s djuice™ has created waves in the mobileInternet market with its “open garden” concept that enablesusers on all mobile service platforms to access the service evenwhen they are from other networks, scoring yet another firstfor the Group. More significantly, the djuice™ mobile Internetportal also serves as the ideal platform from which to launchother high value-added mobile-centric services, including futurem-commerce initiatives.

The Group’s International Carrier Services also recordedcommendable growth despite the highly competitive andvolatile nature of the global terminating and transit trafficbusiness. DiGi’s International Calling Card (ICC) or chatz card,a convenient and cost-saving product, has been well-receivedin the market and has drawn an excellent response from itstarget customer segments, bringing in sizeable revenue withinthe financial year.

On the Fixed Network end, the enhanced service qualityresulting from the completion of the Klang Valley MetropolitanAccess Network (KVMAN) has contributed towardssubscriber growth. Another noteworthy milestone on theoperational side, achieved in the third quarter of financial year2001, was the launch of DiGi’s Internet Access Service, iDiGi,currently being enjoyed by subscribers in selected areas withinthe Klang Valley.

In keeping with its focus on providing customer-delight, DiGi isalways on the lookout for opportunities to provide products andservices that translate into convenience for customers,particularly through exploring non-traditional distributionchannels. In addition to the existing e-pay terminals set up ateasily-accessible outlets such as petrol kiosks, retail stores andshopping malls, the Group established the first of many strategicalliances with local financial institutions in the financial year underreview. DiGi initiated a tie-up with the Maybank Group in March2001 to offer DiGi Prepaid Plus customers the convenient andhassle-free option of purchasing their reload coupons throughMaybank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) network. Anexclusive arrangement is also in progress with the 7-Eleven chainof stores that will enable customers nationwide to obtain theirDiGi Prepaid Plus and chatz cards at the 24-hour outlets by theend of August 2001. Through identifying and forging partnershipssuch as this, the Group has been able to target niche marketsegments and introduce its value-added services to corporateand business customers, which has subsequently led to anincrease in its Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) andcorrespondingly reduced churn.

As a key player in the Malaysian telecommunications industry,DiGi’s roll-out of high value-added products and services tomeet individual needs for communication, connectivity andaccess to information is an integral part of its business mission.Known to deliver meaningful and relevant services tocustomers, DiGi’s offerings and services have always beengeared towards providing convenient solutions that meet thelifestyle demands of its customers. This approach has beenproven as the right one judging from the strong subscribergrowth experienced in the course of the year under review.

Perkhidmatan Antarabangsa Kumpulan juga mencatatkanpertumbuhan yang memberangsangkan walaupun menghadapikeadaan perniagaan penamatan dan lalu lintas transit global yangtidak stabil dan berpersaingan tinggi. Selaras dengan tumpuannya untuk menggembirakan pelanggan,DiGi sentiasa mencari peluang untuk membekalkan produk danperkhidmatan yang memberikan kemudahan dan kesenangankepada para pelanggan, khususnya dengan meneroka saluranpengedaran bukan tradisional. Sebagai syarikatyang terkenal kerana membawakan perkhidmatan yang bermaknadan berkenaan kepada pelanggan, DiGi sentiasa menawarkanrumusan mudah digunakan yang memenuhi keperluan gaya hiduppara pelanggannya. To date, DiGi’s total customer base has grown considerably,charting an exponential increase of 70 per cent. This positivegrowth trend has enabled DiGi to not only maintain itsposition within the Malaysian telecommunications industry,but to also take its rightful place as an industry authority.

OPERATIONAL HIGHLIGHTSMobile Services

The year under review witnessed the heating up ofcompetition in the marketplace as telco players closed inaggressively to secure mobile subscribers through adopting awide variety of customer-focused strategies. DiGi’s overallmarketing strategy continued to focus on strengthening itsmarket share through elevating the brand perception,developing relevant and innovative products and services aswell as identifying and harnessing non-traditional distributionchannels.

In keeping with this, a series of activities and campaignswere initiated to increase awareness of the DiGi brandand its product offerings. These range from using directmethods such as increasing the presence ofcorporate billboards at strategic locationsnationwide to forming alliances with excitingbrands such as DiGi’s partnership with ntv7to bring the highly-publicised ‘Who Wantsto be a Millionaire’ television game show toour shores. In addition, the Group’s Better-than-Ever Campaign was also launched duringthe financial year under review to buildcredibility in terms of DiGi’s expansivenetwork coverage, while simultaneouslyexploiting the branding opportunities presented.

In terms of International Roaming, the Groupexpanded its services significantly to offer itscustomers greater coverage when they travel abroad onbusiness or pleasure. The financial year under review saw thenumber of DiGi’s roaming partners increasing to 99operators in 70 countries and these numbers will continueto grow as the Group maintains its focus on multiplying itsroaming partners globally.

Sehingga kini, jumlah pelanggan DiGi telah meningkat secaramendadak, iaitu satu peningkatan eksponen sebanyak 70 peratus.Trend pertumbuhan positif ini telah membolehkan DiGi bukansahaja mengekalkan kedudukannya di dalam industri telekomunikasiMalaysia, tetapi juga mengambil tempat sebagai peserta industri yangberwibawa.

Taking the time-proven customer lifestyle-centric approachin its roll-out of products and services, DiGi adhered to itsgame plan of adopting a highly-responsive and practicalstance towards offering customers relevant services whichhold the promise of long-term savings. The wisdom behindthis move is perhaps best reflected in the success story thatis DiGi Mobile One – an innovative product with carefully-planned call plans, namely One Premier, One Power and OneFriends, specially-tailored to meet the lifestyle needs anddemands of heavy, medium and light users respectively.

The high success rate of DiGi’s Mobile One, launched in thesecond quarter of financial year 2001, lies in its bolddeparture from the traditional marketmentality of “one size fits all” where callrates are determined by zone regardlessof usage patterns. DiGi Mobile Oneinnovatively features one rate, irrespectiveof zones, which gives customers theflexibility to enjoy their plan of choice, inaddition to enjoying high value-addedservices such as International DirectDialing (IDD), International Roaming,Interactive Messaging, Mobile Banking aswell as Mobile Internet services.

The Group will also continue its focus onthe creative bundling of services, a primeexample of which is the Corporate MobileOffice Package which presents customersthe option of a mobile phone and PersonalDigital Assistant (PDA) combination aspart of a total mobile office solution. A strong brand presence has been established in the courseof the year, through the Group’s focused and aggressiveadvertising strategy in both print and electronic media, andthe DiGi name is now synonymous with innovation andtrendiness. This upbeat market perception has been a vitalfactor in encouraging consistent growth in DiGi Prepaid Plus’subscriber numbers, in that the brand’s lifestyle positioninghas helped capture a huge section of the young and trendymarket. The positive growth trend is also attributed to theencouraging response to the prepaid concept in generalwithin an already mature market.

Leveraging on the established brand perception, the Grouplaunched a series of activities to further reinforce the lifestylethrust of the brand. During the year in review, these effortsinclude initiating strategic partnerships with universal lifestylebrands to develop creative products and services, amongwhich were the specially-designed reload coupons andSIM Packs launched in joint promotionswith Coca-Cola, MTV and Sony Music.DiGi has also been quick to deliver serviceswith entertainment value, associating thebrand with top local and international musicalacts such as Bardot and the Moffats, as well aspopular movies like ‘X-Men’, ‘Gen-Y Cops’ and‘Tomb Raider’.

Holding fast to its tenet of “Connecting You to YourWorld”, the Group continued to explore alternate avenuesof providing customers fast and convenient reload purchaseoptions. Mobile Internet - djuice™

DiGi created waves in the market with the introduction of itsmobile Internet service, djuice™, and the accompanying teasercampaign leading up to its launch in the third quarter of financialyear 2001. The superior branding of djuice™, driven by itsdynamic customisation and personalisation features, forms aunique selling point for the service, which promises users thefreedom of exploring their content of choice. The fact that theservice is accessible via WAP, STK and even SMS platformsearmarks another first for the Group, in that DiGi is the firstservice operator in Malaysia to make the service available tothose who do not own WAP phones.

Persepsi pasaran yang positif initelah menjadi faktor penting yang menggalakkan pertumbuhankonsisten bilangan pelanggan DiGi Prepaid Plus, di mana jenamaDiGi yang bercorak gaya hidup telah membantu meraih sebahagianbesar daripada pasaran golongan muda yang bergaya. Trendpertumbuhan yang positif juga dicapai hasil daripada sambutanmenggalakkan terhadap konsep pra-bayar dalam suasana pasaranyang lebih matang.

Mengambil kesempatan daripada persepsi jenama yang telah dibina,Kumpulan telah melancarkan satu siri kegiatan untukmemperkukuhkan lagi paparan gaya hidup jenama ini. Antarakegiatan yang dilaksanakan pada tahun yang dilaporkan termasuk

menjalin pakatan strategik dengan jenama gaya hidup universaluntuk menghasilkan produk dan perkhidmatan

yang kreatif. Ini termasuk kupon isisemula dan Pek SIM yang direka

khas dalam promosi bersama Coca-Cola, MTV dan Sony Music. DiGi juga

selalu bertindak cepat untuk membawaperkhidmatan yang bernilai hiburan,

dengan mengaitkan jenama DiGi denganpersembahan unggul muzik tempatan

dan antarabangsa seperti Bardot dan TheMoffats serta juga filem popular seperti ‘X-

Men’, ‘Gen-Y Cops’ dan ‘Tomb Raider’.

Berpegang teguh kepada falsafah “Menghubungkan Anda KepadaDunia Anda”, Kumpulan telah terus meneroka kaedah alternatif bagimemberikan pelanggan pilihan pembelian isi semula yang pantasdan mudah. Untuk itu, DiGi telah menjalin pakatan pertama dengansebuah institusi kewangan apabila ia bekerjasama denganKumpulan Maybank untuk membolehkan pembelian isi semulamaya di ATM Maybank di seluruh negara. Pakatan tersebutmerupakan permulaan kepada beberapa pakatan berterusan yangdijalin dengan institusi kewangan utama. Inisiatif tersebut, dan jugasistem e-pay yang dibangunkan pada tahun kewangan lalu,mencerminkan tumpuan DiGi terhadap kemudahan pelanggan yangtelah menjadi asas kejayaannya dalam segmen pra-bayar.

Internet Mudah-alih – djuice™

DiGi telah menggegar pasaran dengan memperkenallkanperkhidmatan Internet mudah-alih djuice™. Perkhidmatan tersebutyang dilancarkan pada suku ketiga tahun kewangan 2001 telahdidahului dengan kempen teaser untuk menarik perhatian ramai.Penjenamaan unggul djuice™, serta penyerlahan ciri-ciripenyesuaian peribadinya, merupakan pelaris jualan unik bagiperkhidmatan tersebut di mana para pengguna diberi kebebasanuntuk meneroka kandungan pilihan mereka. Perkhidmatan inimerupakan satu lagi mercu tanda bagi Kumpulan kerana ia bolehdiakses menerusi landasan WAP, STK dan juga SMS. DiGimerupakan pengendali perkhidmatan pertama di Malaysia untukmenyediakan perkhidmatan ini kepada mereka yang tidak memilikitelefon WAP.

These include printmedia campaigns, television and radio teasers andcommercials, and the launch of the djuice-Mania roadshowwhich left a trail of satisfied customers in major towns acrossthe nation.

Carefully conceptualised to enhance the users’ lifestyle,djuice™ reflects DiGi’s commitment to deliver meaningful andrelevant services that add value to the individual user’sexperience. Not only that, the djuice™ platform has played acentral role in powering DiGi’s Mobile Movie Booking Service,the Group’s maiden m-commerce initiativewhich enables customers to make actualmovie ticket bookings at selected GoldenScreen Cinemas. It is no accident, therefore,that since its launch in the third quarter offinancial year 2001, djuice™ has been seeingan increasing number of users, evidence of itsrapidly-gaining popularity and functionality inthe market.

International Services

For the financial year under review,International Carrier Services delivered acommendable performance despite mountingcompetition from newly-licensed ApplicationService Providers (ASP), as well as existingdomestic and global carriers.

The lower cost of entry through utilising technologies suchas Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as well as packetswitching has given birth to a new breed of players, the ASPs,who have ventured into the wholesale business, making useof VoIP technology. Competition in the wholesale businesshas now taken on a volatile new form, simultaneouslytransforming the pace of the international termination andvoice traffic marketplace significantly.

In addition, the accounting rates for many countries havecontinued their downward spiral in financial year 2001, fallingby as much as 50% in some cases. The erosion in settlementrates has resulted in a number of operators, particularlysecond-tiered players, having to cease operations due to thedrastic decrease in profit margins. In the face of intensifyingcompetition, service operators are recognising the need togenerate substantial increases in traffic in order to maintainrevenue.

Perkhidmatan Antarabangsa

Bagi tahun kewangan yang dilaporkan,Perkhidmatan Pembawa Antarabangsa telahmencatatkan prestasi yang menggalakkan,walaupun menghadapi persaingan yang semakinsengit daripada Pembekal PerkhidmatanAplikasi (ASP) yang baru mendapat lesen, danjuga daripada pembawa tempatan dan globalyang sedia ada.

Kos kemasukan yang lebih rendah, dengan menggunakan teknologiseperti Protokol Suara menerusi Internet (VoIP) dan juga pensuisanpaket, telah melahirkan peserta baru, iaitu syarikat-syarikat ASP yangtelah memasuki pasaran borong, dengan memanfaatkan teknologiVoIP. Persaingan dalam perniagaan borong kini mengambil satubentuk baru yang tidak stabil, dan pada masa yang samamengubah rupa pasaran penamatan antarabangsa dan lalu lintassuara secara mendadak.

Di samping itu, kadar perakaunan bagi kebanyakan negara telah terusjatuh pada tahun kewangan 2001. Malah dalam sesetengah kes, adayang jatuh sehingga 50%. Kadar penjelasan yang telah jatuh ketahap paling rendah menyebabkan beberapa pengendali, khususnyapeserta peringkat kedua, terpaksa menamatkan operasi keranakemelesetan besar dalam margin keuntungan. In addressing this need, DiGi has long since taken a proactivestrategy of generating more outbound IDD traffic, which canbe used to barter for inbound terminating and transit traffic.To increase traffic and revenue, strategies undertaken earlierwere given continued or added emphasis. These include:-

• Establishing more direct routes / circuits with carriers • Increasing backbone and trunk capacities to cater for

the increase in traffic transaction • Implementing network management systems and data

warehousing for improved efficiency and to support thehubbing business

Other highlights on the operational side include the Group’sestablishment of a number of new circuits with overseascorrespondent carriers via undersea cable systems such asAsia Pacific Cable Network (APCN), US-China Cable andSouth East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe CableNetwork (SMW-3). Through this initiative, the number ofdirect correspondents has increased, thus providingadditional high-quality circuits that are direct in nature.

DiGi also migrated to cable some of the existing circuits thatwere established via INTELSAT satellites. This investmenthas helped to reduce operating costs, primarily throughbigger savings from satellite transponder rental.

In November 2000, an additional Ericsson AXE-10international switch was commissioned. The switch hasgreatly increased our switching capacity. Additionally, thesubstantial increase in traffic volume necessitated theinstallation and commissioning of a new cluster of (4+1) ECI360B Digital Circuit Multiplication Equipment (DCME) whichis connected to ISC-2. Presently, three terminals of thenewly-installed DCME are carrying IDD traffic.

Of noteworthy report is the impressive market response toDiGi’s International Calling Card (ICC) or chatz card.Parents with children studying overseas, foreign workers aswell as corporate customers, especially from Small andMedium Enterprises (SMEs) find the cards both convenientand cost effective to use. The ICC system alone generatedrevenue in excess of RM17.1 million for financial year 2001.

Bagi memenuhi keperluan ini, DiGitelah sejak dulu lagi mengambillangkah proaktif untuk menghasilkanlebih banyak lalu lintas keluar IDD,yang boleh diperdagangkan bagi lalulintas masuk penamatan dan transit.Untuk meningkatkan lalu lintas danhasil pendapatan, strategi yangdilaksanakan sebelum ini telahditeruskan atau diberi penekananlanjut. Ini termasuk:-

• Membuka lebih banyak laluan / litar langsung dengan pembawa • Meningkatkan keupayaan tulang belakang dan sambungan jauh

untuk memenuhi keperluan urus niaga lalu lintas yang meningkat • Melaksanakan sistem pengurusan rangkaian dan penggudangan

data untuk meningkatkan kecekapan dan untuk menyokongperniagaan hab.

Antara pencapaian lain dari segi operasi termasuk penubuhanbeberapa litar baru menerusi sistem kabel bawah laut denganpembawa luar negara sekutu seperti Asia Pacific Cable Network(APCN), US-China Cable dan South East Asia-Middle East-WesternEurope Cable Network (SMW-3). Menerusi inisiatif ini, bilangan sekutulangsung telah meningkat, lantas membekalkan lebih banyak litarbermutu tinggi yang bersifat langsung.

DiGi juga memindahkan beberapa litar semasa yang dihubungkanmenerusi satelit INTELSAT kepada kabel. Pelaburan tersebuttelah membantu mengurangkan kos operasi, terutamanya menerusipenjimatan yang lebih besar dalam sewa transponder.

Pada bulan November 2000, sebuah suis antarabangsa EricssonAXE-10 tambahan telah ditempah dan mula digunakan. Suistersebut telah meningkatkan lagi kapasiti pensuisan kami. Disamping itu, peningkatan besar dalam jumlah lalu lintas telahmembawa kepada pemasangan dan pemesanan sekelompokbaru Peralatan Multiplikasi Litar Digital (DCME) (4+1) ECI360B, yang disambungkan kepada ISC-2. Pada masa ini, tigaterminal peralatan baru ini membawa lalu lintas IDD.

Satu lagi perkembangan yang menarik ialah sambutan pasaranterhadap Kad Panggilan Antarabangsa DiGi (ICC) atau kad chatz.Ibubapa dengan anak-anak yang belajar di luar negara, pekerjaasing, dan juga pelanggan korporat, khususnya dari Industri Kecildan Sederhana (IKS) mendapati kad tersebut mudah digunakandan menjimatkan kos. Sistem ICC sahaja telah menjana perolehanmelebihi RM17.1 juta bagi tahun kewangan 2001.

Fixed Network Services

Equal Access

The financial year under review has been an encouraging onefor the Group’s Equal Access service, DiGi Access. The salesfocus for the year under review was primarily on the homesubscriber segment, with an almost 80% concentration onMalaysian households. While more than 50% of DiGi Access’subscribers are found within the Central region, the EqualAccess service has also successfully established an extensivesales network in other regions. In addition, the introductionof attractive pricing programmes such as One Rate, whichencourages subscribers to make overseas/IDD calls byoffering cheaper flat rates, as well as the “Holiday on 186”DiGi Access contest have encouraged subscribers to continueto use the service.

By focusing efforts on cultivating strong customer loyaltythrough innovative DiGi Access service packaging, DiGi willno doubt continue to be favourably positioned as a serviceoperator that is able to provide total solutions for bothhome and business/corporate subscribers.

Fixed Line Services

During the financial year under review, the fixed line servicesshowed a healthy revenue growth, with an increase of 74 percent from the previous year. The positive growth was attributedto the increase in fixed line service quality, resulting from thecompletion of the Klang Valley Metropolitan Access Network(KVMAN) in the Klang Valley. The KVMAN system ensuresgreater reliability in terms of its quality lines, and functions intandem with current microwaves which were also installed thisyear to provide additional network reinforcement. Thesemeasures have significantly enhanced the resilience of DiGi’sfixed line network, in addition to bolstering customer confidencein this segment through financial year 2001.

Perkhidmatan Rangkaian Tetap

Akses Sama Rata

Perkhidmatan Akses Sama Rata Kumpulan, iaitu DiGi Access,mencatatkan prestasi yang menggalakkan dalam tahun yangdilaporkan. Jualan bagi tahun yang dilaporkan ditumpukanterutamanya kepada segmen pelanggan rumah, dengan penumpuanhampir 80% pada rumahtangga di Malaysia. Walaupun lebihdaripada 50% daripada pelanggan DiGi Access tinggal di kawasanTengah, perkhidmatan Akses Sama Rata ini telah berjaya membinarangkaian jualan meluas di kawasan lain. Di samping itu, programharga yang menarik seperti One Rate, yang diperkenalkan untukmenggalakkan para pelanggan membuat panggilan IDD luarnegara dengan menawarkan kadar tetap lebih murah, danpertandingan “Holiday on 186” DiGi Access, telah menggalakkanpelanggan untuk terus menggunakan perkhidmatan tersebut.

Dalam usaha menjalin kesetiaan pelanggan menerusi pakejperkhidmatan DiGi Access yang inovatif, DiGi akan terus beradapada kedudukan yang baik untuk membekalkan rumusan lengkapbagi pelanggan segmen rumah dan juga segmen perniagaan/korporat.

Perkhidmatan Talian Tetap

Dalam tahun kewangan yang dilaporkan, perkhidmatan talian tetapmencatatkan pertumbuhan hasil yang menggalakkan, iaitu sebanyak74 peratus berbanding dengan tahun sebelumnya. Pertumbuhanpositif dicapai kerana kualiti perkhidmatan talian tetap yang mampudiberikan dengan selesainya pembinaan Rangkaian AksesMetropolitan Lembah Klang (KVMAN). Sistem KVMAN menjaminkebolehpercayaan yang lebih tinggi dari segi kualiti talian, danberfungsi selaras dengan keupayaan gelombang mikro yang jugatelah didirikan tahun ini untuk memperkukuhkan lagi rangkaian.Langkah-langkah sedemikian telah meningkatkan lagi kekuatanrangkaian talian tetap DiGi, di samping menambahkan keyakinanpelanggan dalam segmen ini pada tahun kewangan 2001.

Internet Services

The 4th quarter of financial year 2001 saw the launch of iDiGi,the Group’s debut into the Internet services market, offeringhigh value-added Internet access services as well as free e-mailaccounts to individuals and businesses in the Klang Valley.Maintaining its customer-centric focus, the Group has provideda user-friendly web interface which gives customers instantaccess to the service, in addition to developing an attractiveusage rate, where the service itself is provided for free andsubscribers only pay normal phone charges.

CUSTOMER SERVICEDuring the financial year under review, customer servicefaced several challenges, chief among these being high callvolume and an unprecedented number of new productlaunches. DiGi’s customer service team comprising its coreunits, DiGi Centre Operations, Customer Care Unit,Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and QualityProcedures and Training (QPT), was able to forge ahead toachieve its deliverables in line with its vision of providing best-in-class service to DiGi customers.

Several programmes were implemented through the year toprovide consistent, personalised service and constantly upgradethe level of service across all touch points. By November 2000,QMS 300, a queuing system to measure levels of service quality,was implemented at DiGi Centres nationwide. Notableperformance highlights at DiGi Centres this year includesurpassing predetermined standards of service performance. Tofurther increase customer convenience, the operating hours atthe KL Plaza DiGi Centre were extended to 9pm every day, 7days a week. An Internet kiosk was also set up at the samelocation as an additional value-added customer amenity.

Perkhidmatan Internet

iDiGi telah dilancarkan pada suku keempat tahun kewangan2001, iaitu perkhidmatan Internet Kumpulan, yang menawarkanperkhidmatan akses nilai tambah tinggi dan juga akaun e-melpercuma kepada individu dan perniagaan di Lembah Klang.Kumpulan telah mengekalkan tumpuan terhadap pelanggannyadan menyediakan antara-muka web yang mesra pengguna, yangmemberikan para pelanggan akses serta-merta kepadaperkhidmatan. Tambahan lagi, kadar penggunaannya adalahmenarik, di mana perkhidmatan tersebut disediakan secarapercuma dan pelanggan hanya membayar caj telefon biasa.

PERKHIDMATAN PELANGGANDalam tahun kewangan yang dilaporkan, bahagianperkhidmatan pelanggan menghadapi beberapa cabaran,antaranya volum jualan yang tinggi dan bilangan pelancaran produkbaru semakin bertambah. Pasukan perkhidmatan pelangganDiGi, dengan unit terasnya yang terdiri daripada Operasi PusatDiGi, Unit Penjagaan Pelanggan, Pengurusan HubunganPelanggan (CRM) dan Prosedur Kualiti dan Latihan (QPT), berjayamaju ke hadapan untuk mencapai matlamatnya selaras denganwawasan bahagian ini untuk menyediakan perkhidmatan terbaikdalam kelasnya kepada para pelanggan DiGi.

Beberapa program telah dilaksanakan sepanjang tahun untukmembekalkan perkhidmatan yang konsisten dan peribadi, serta terusmempertingkatkan tahap perkhidmatan di semua titik pertemuan.Menjelang November 2000, QMS 300, satu sistem perbarisan untukmengukur tahap kualiti perkhidmatan, telah dilaksanakan di PusatDiGi di seluruh negara. Pencapaian prestasi utama di Pusat DiGi tahunini termasuk mengatasi piawaian prestasi perkhidmatan yang telahditetapkan. Untuk meningkatkan lagi keselesaan pelanggan, waktuoperasi Pusat DiGi KL Plaza telah dilanjutkan ke 9 malam setiap hari,tujuh hari seminggu. Sebuah kiosk Internet juga telah didirikan di lokasiyang sama sebagai kemudahan nilai tambah bagi pelanggan.

The Group invested in the upgrading of Call Centre operationsthrough the launch of the Interactive Voice Response (IVR)system in October to front all incoming calls and lend supportto Call Centre agents. In addition to this was the successfulimplementation of the Call Centre’s Intranet system in thefinancial year under review as a means of enhancing the internalcommunication process, a strong reflection of DiGi’s proactivestance towards reaching a higher level of service efficiency.

DiGi is confident of maintaining andincreasing its high service levelsthrough the quality control measuresenforced by its Quality Proceduresand Training (QPT) Unit who face thechallenge of ensuring the higheststandards in the development,documentation and implementationof operational procedures. Throughconducting regular service audits onprocedural compliance and measuringservice performance against agreedstandards, the QPT team has beensuccessful in identifying performance gaps with a view toimplementing the necessary corrective action. There was asignificant improvement noted overall in serviceperformance standards as a result of equipping frontlinerswith detailed customer service operation and systemprocedures prior to the implementation of new services andprocess changes.

To this end also, the Group is proud to note that its newly-established Customer Relationship Management (CRM) unit hasbeen able to identify, attract, retain and develop profitablecustomer relationships within the year under review. Taskedwith the responsibility of driving the ongoing, enterprise-wideCRM initiatives, the unit has been aggressive in pinning downcustomer trends, particularly through the first phase launch of itsCRM project in August, implemented by a cross-functional teamcomprising key representatives from IT, Sales, Marketing,Customer Service and Finance. The team effort has resulted inthe reaching of several principal milestones such as theimplementation of Datamart, which acts as a central repositoryof customer information, the development of a BusinessIntelligence System to support end user information access andmost significantly, the establishing of a predictive CRM system toprofile, model and predict customer behaviour. In addition tothese, there was the successful execution of Pilot ProactiveRetention Campaigns targeting the highest churn risk customersin keeping with the unit’s mandate of reducing churn andincreasing customer lifetime value in terms of tenure andAverage Revenue Per User (ARPU).

Kumpulan telah membuat pelaburan untuk mempertingkatkanoperasi Pusat Panggilannya dengan melancarkan sistem ResponsSuara Interaktif (IVR) pada bulan Oktober untuk menerima semuapanggilan masuk dan memberi sokongan kepada ejen PusatPanggilan. Selain daripada itu, sistem Intranet Pusat Panggilan telahberjaya dilaksanakan pada tahun yang dilaporkan sebagai cara untukmempertingkatkan proses komunikasi dalaman. Ini mencerminkanpendirian proaktif DiGi dalam mencapai tahap kecekapanperkhidmatan yang lebih tinggi.

DiGi yakin dapat mengekalkan danmeningkatkan tahap perkhidmatanyang tinggi menerusi langkah-langkahpengawalan kualiti yang dikuatkuasakanoleh Unit Prosedur Kualiti dan Latihan(QPT), yang menghadapi cabaranmenjamin tahap piawaian yang palingtinggi dalam pembangunan, dokumentasi danpelaksanaan prosedur operasi. Denganmelaksanakan audit perkhidmatan yangkerap bagi mengawal pematuhan prosedurdan mengukur prestasi perkhidmatanberbanding dengan piawaian yang dipersetujui,pasukan QPT telah berjaya mengenalpasti

jurang prestasi dan akan berusaha melaksanakan tindakan pembetulanyang sewajarnya. Terdapat peningkatan nyata yang dilihat secarakeseluruhannya dari segi piawaian prestasi, hasil pencapaian parapetugas barisan hadapan yang telah dilengkapkan secara terperincidengan prosedur operasi dan sistem perkhidmatan pelanggansebelum perkhidmatan baru dan perubahan proses dilaksanakan.

Sementara itu, Kumpulan juga berbangga untuk melihat kejayaan unitPengurusan Hubungan Pelanggan (CRM) yang baru ditubuhkandalam mengenalpasti, menarik, mengekalkan dan membangunkanhubungan pelanggan yang menguntungkan dalam tahun yangdilaporkan. Dipertanggungjawabkan untuk memacu inisiatifberterusan CRM di seluruh organisasi, unit tersebut telah denganagresif mengenalpasti trend pelanggan, khususnya menerusi fasapertama pelancaran projek CRMnya pada bulan Ogos. Projektersebut dilaksanakan oleh pasukan pelbagai fungsi yang disertai olehwakil penting dari bahagian IT, Jualan, Pemasaran, PerkhidmatanPelanggan dan Kewangan. Beberapa mercu tanda penting telahdicapai hasil daripada kerjasama berpasukan tersebut, antaranyatermasuk pelaksanaan Datamart, yang berfungsi sebagai pusatsimpanan maklumat pelanggan, dan pembangunan Sistem RisikanPerniagaan yang memberi akses kepada maklumat pengguna akhir.Yang paling penting sekali ialah pelaksanaan sistem CRM prediktifuntuk membina profil, merangka model dan meramalkan gelagatpelanggan. Selain daripada itu, beberapa Kempen Rintis PengekalanPelanggan Proaktif telah dilaksanakan, yang bertujuan mengekalkanpara pelanggan yang berisiko paling tinggi untuk berpindahperkhidmatan. Langkah ini adalah selaras dengan mandat unit iniuntuk mengurangkan perpindahan dan meningkatkan nilai jangkahayat pelanggan dari segi tempoh langganan dan Purata Hasil BagiSetiap Pengguna (ARPU).

In an increasingly competitive environment, the customerservice team faces the challenge of meeting the customer’sexpectations of personalised and targeted service that is closelylinked to their lifestyle, preferences and behaviour. This sees thedirection of the division’s future strategies moving aggressivelytowards providing differentiated service levels and promotingan environment of staff empowerment to ensure best-in-classcustomer service at all times.

FUTURE PLANSJust as with all current business initiatives, DiGi’s future serviceswill be solidly based on practical innovation that will add valueto its customers’ demanding lifestyles, enhancing the way theylive, work and play. Given the unique challenges faced and theincreasingly competitive industry environment, DiGi has learntto adopt a highly-proactive stance in the roll-out of its productsand services, responding quickly in anticipation of the fast-changing needs and demands of its customers. In the last fiveyears, DiGi has become a well-known industry name and hasestablished credibility as an industry authority. This, coupledwith DiGi’s long-term ambition of being perceived as a fullyintegrated service provider, has underscored its ongoing effortsto grow its core businesses, and will continue to characterise allits future undertakings.

As such, the Group will continue to focus its efforts onincreasing ARPU through targeting high value customersand gearing its value-added offerings towards attractingniche market segments, such as higher end corporate andprofessional profiles. Having introduced a series of cutting-edge applications such as Wireless Application Protocol(WAP), the Group has already embarked on deliveringrelevant lifestyle-based service and is set to launch morecreative and innovative m-commerce offerings in the nearfuture, including that of GPRS and 3G technology when it isimplemented.

Recognising that the optimised functionality of its networkis a crucial factor in providing its customers with best-in-class service quality, the Group increased its capitalinvestment on upgrading and expanding network coverageand quality. Substantial resources were allocated towardsgiving customers improved voice clarity, better serviceaccessibility and fewer dropped calls, concentrating chieflyon market centres, highways, urban areas and holidaydestinations in Peninsular and East Malaysia. As part of theplanned investment, a contract has already been sealed withEricsson in the year under review for the infrastructuraldevelopment of the existing network, as well as the supplyand implementation of GPRS technology.

Within the new knowledge-economy, service operators areconstantly challenged to innovate useful, high-value services thattranslate into convenience and versatility to match the evolvingneeds of their customers. As a serious, well-integratedservice provider, DiGi has a reputation for being quick toidentify and develop strategic and mutually enrichingpartnerships with world-class content providers. Yahoo! Asia isone example of these strategic alliances, delivering tailor-madecontent for DiGi’s data-driven mobile Internet services.Another of DiGi’s partnership focus areas is the entertainmentor lifestyle brand, an example of which is MTV Asia. DiGi will also continue to explore new and non-traditionaldistribution channels, to introduce its innovative offeringsacross a wider range of customer profiles. The Group is committed toexpanding its list of potential banking partners in a move tocreate an extensive network of reload sites for its customersnationwide. Developing convenient options such as this inspirescustomer confidence and loyalty, which represent the mainsuccess factors behind DiGi’s ongoing efforts to reduce churn.In fact, the convergence of electronic banking applications withtelecommunications in this manner represents a paradigm shiftthat will significantly enhance DiGi’s competitiveness in anincreasingly borderless world.

OUTLOOKThe Group’s outlook in terms of the market response to itsexisting and ongoing offerings, as well as the future of theindustry, continues to remain positive. As consumers respondto the benefits of mobile telephony, there will be an increasein demand for products and services that are both innovativein feature and which offer cutting-edge convenience. To thisend, DiGi is confident that its unwavering commitment tolisten to its customers and present them with products andservices that are relevant to their lifestyle needs is the provenstrategy that will lead the Group forward into the fast-changing future.

The telecommunications industry in Malaysia has evidencedencouraging growth in the recovering economic climate, and isset to grow exponentially in the long-term. The emergence ofnew niche markets in the industry, spurred on by thegovernment’s initiatives to boost the knowledge-economy is aclear indication of its bright future. As the industry braces itselffor the inevitable challenges that will present themselves throughthe much-anticipated growth in mobile and Internet penetrationin Malaysia, it is clear that the growth potential of DiGi’s mobiletelephony and Internet services is tremendous.
