DIGI PACK DECONSTRUCTION- ANALYSISNANCY OVER

FRONT COVERJason Mraz’s album ‘we sing.we dance. We still things’. The CD image is a hand drawn piece of Mraz- its very simple. The simplicity of the album cover suggests its targeted to an age group of late teens- twenties. This is also supported by the child like drawing suggesting he has a child-like innocence. As the image is so simple, it creates a sense of ambiguity. In parallel to the image, the title his name also look hand written. The white background and black text image suggest that his songs are uncomplicated and straight forward. They could also have a meaning in which see in black and white- a phrase used when you view a situation simply for what it is, not over thinking it.

CDIn comparison to the album cover, the CD has more going on making it more interesting. Referring to the title of ‘we dance.we sing. we steal things’ represents this as both singing and dancing are very expressive, as is the cd, and the stealing relates to the fact its hidden on the inside of the album and the front cover is very simple and innocent. The images are all very random which may represent perhaps what his songs are saying, challenging what the front cover is suggesting. Referring to the colours again, the white may represent his pure, child- like innocence side where as the black represents more of a darker side, In addition, these two colours contrast each other the most giving it a balance of perhaps both sides of him in his music.

BACK COVERThe strict colour theme of black and white is confident throughout, however, it juxtaposes against his previous album covers. Unconventionally the track list has not been numbered making it less strict and set. Copyright issues are also allocated in the right hand side of the frame, its unique and out of the way of the track list which is the whole point of the CD making it less distracting and less of an eye sore. The barcode is located in the top right corner, this is conventional and vital to have. His website and Atlantic records is also on the back cover, this is a good but subtle way of him promoting himself as well as the team of people helping produce his music,
