- Appreciate the diversity within your team take the opportunity to learn from it and use it to drive your project forward.

- Prepare your presentations and demo with focus on the evaluation criteria found later in this document. The focus on the demo is to highlight to partners the readiness for entry into future opportunities such as pilots or partnering.

- Do not be frightened by the ROFR paragraph (right of first refusal). It is the show of good will between you and the challenge partner. It means that cannot negotiate a deal regarding your solution for 3 months after the finals with other parties. Ask us if there are any queries.

- Familiarize yourself with the detailed schedule. Know where to be and when.

Accommodation

- There will be a resting area onsite. Participants are expected to bring their own pillow and sleeping bag.

- Alternative accommodation will not be covered by the organizers.

What to bring along? Contestant material requirements:

- Personal hygiene items

- Pillow and sleeping bag for comfortable resting.

- Laptop, chargers, any special laptop to screen connectors and travel adapters.

- Towel is a must and your bathing suit (if not keen on Finnish sauna fashion) if you wish to avail of sauna.

Good to Know:

- Although it is valuable for all team members to be at the venue as much as possible to avail of the mentor’s expertise, and to soak up the atmosphere, teams must have at the least 1 team representative onsite at all times if possible, especially the final pitching.

2. Final Pitches and Evaluation criteria

Final Pitching

● Time - 5min + 2min Q&A

● Content

o See evaluation criteria below

● Tip: briefly (10-15 secs) explain the challenge you are solving. Using 1-2 mins to explain the problem takes valuable time from key information.

● Be relevant, stay focused, be concise.

● Structure

o Structure is up to the team. Examples:

● 3 min pitch 2 min demo ● 5 mins pitch and demo combined ● 2-3min demo and 2-3 min pitch ● Straight pitch no demo ● Video embedded to the pitch

Tips

● Be prepared – a good opportunity to perfect your pitch is to attend the pitching workshop and get some great hints to pitching for success.

● Practice – following on from preparation and closely aligned is practicing your pitch. Timing, technical aspects, flow and stage presence of the pitcher are a few suggestions to focus on. Don’t be afraid to ask a mentor or one of the crew to observe and mentor your pitching technique/content.

o Bonus tip: Be aware of who you are pitching too. Try to reduce or eliminate reading from the slides behind you but engage with your audience.

● Test technical – prior to commencing, ensure all connections from own laptop are available. Ensure smooth transition for videos. Ensure demo functions and in the best case can be tested by the judges if requested.

● Don’t Panic – a mistake is never the end of a great opportunity, take a second, breathe and begin where you left off. Even the pro’s make errors.

After the end of the DigiEduHack, the Steering Group will look at the winning solutions identified by the local juries (1 per location) and select 10-12 solutions, which stand out for innovativeness and quality. Every solution will be reviewed by two members of the Steering Group, plus a third one if the there is great disparity between their evaluations. The selection of the finalists by the Steering Group will be done in agreement with the awarding criteria described. During the selection process, the Members of the Steering Group will also look for a balance in terms of Digital Education Action Plan priority, geographical coverage, type of education institution involved. The objective is to ensure variability and have finalists coming from different educational levels and countries who have been working on different topics.

After the 10-12 finalists will be announced on the DigiEduHack website, the public will have the possibility to vote for their preferred solutions through an online app linked to the DigiEduHack website. The three teams getting the majority of the public votes in a week time will be announced as winners.

The European Commission will organise an award ceremony during one of the upcoming events, possibly before the end of the year or in 2020 or early 2021.
