1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 About This Manual

This manual has been created in order to be used in parallel with the in-stalled system. It has been proven to be the fastest method of learning to handle a system when starting to use it right from the beginning.

Any system behavior will be shown to the user in a much more impressive way than any description could do.

This manual is intended for users of the DigiMedia system only. For ad-

ministrator and setup purposes a setup manual is available. This manual refers to the default configuration of the DigiMedia software

and its modules. Information on customized and special configurations needs to be given at the time of the project specification.

More information on different database configurations is given in the setup manual.

The language has been chosen in a low level english to make it more easy

to read for customers of different native tongue. The software version 5.2 includes the DigiDS driver. It is made for cards

with direct sound. For this driver more soundcards are available, and dif-ferent sound format playout is possible. For more information please con-sult the setup manual.

Abbreviations Used: DBC DigiMedia database client CT DigiMedia configuration tool CDI CD import module 1.2 The DigiMedia System

Needs a breakout box Onboard Soundcard Recommended for listening only For using earlier cards or PC/CPU generations please consult Studer sup-

port. The recommended minimum CPU speed depends on the editor soft-ware in use. Generally, with MM soundcards and MM editors a far higher performance will be necessary (audio signal processing being made via CPU of PC, not on soundcards itself).

Overall System Configuration Even for smallest systems, a two-PC solution with peer-to-peer network is

strongly recommended. Use preferably a Fast Ethernet link with a x-wired cable or a straight-wired cable with a switch or hub. Cable type: RJ45, STP Cat-5 to Cat-7.

For increased system performance when using large databases, a true Win-dows 2003 Server solution with a corresponding 1 GBit/s network struc-ture may be more adequate. Using a Server with Windows Server 2003 Server, the NTFS file system for all involved workstations is the adequate choice.

The on-air application may only be run with the included hardlock device (dongle as external plug to Printer port; transparent for any further printer

connected to its open end). A USB dongle for workstations without printer port is available as well.

For any other special dongle solutions, please contact Studer support. The software license applies for each on-air program but may be extended

to several scheduling workstations at no further licensing cost. Editing and scheduling workstations are not hardlock-protected but are

now protected with a software code obtainable after having purchased the software.

The hardlock device (dongle) is part of the software license and is not

available as a separate spare part from Studer. Care has to be taken against loss. Replacement will imply the purchase of a full DigiMedia software license.

In case of any doubts about meeting the PC specifications, please describe

exactly your equipment and contact Studer support for further information (for customer support, please refer to chapter 7).

2 DATABASE CLIENT (DBC)

2.1 General

The DigiMedia database client (DBC) replaces the DigiMedia Editor of Version 4. The DBC has a completely different GUI and is more flexible and much easier to be configured than the earlier Editor.

For managing all entries into the SQL database, the DigiMedia database

client is a very useful module. Depending on the rights granted to a specific user (defined in the configuration tool), an entry may be created, edited or deleted. In addition, a playlist may be created manually or edited from an already existing playlist that was generated by the DigiMedia Scheduler or from other Schedulers cooperating with a SQL database.

With the DBC, banks and stacks can be created, that are used with the

DigiMedia studio client. A small DigiMedia player is integrated as well. With this player you can

import music and make recordings. It is also possible to listen to the logged file from the Logger.

A DigiMedia audio editor is integrated in the DBC, audio editors from

David may be integrated too. With the DigiMedia configuration tool software module the DBC can be

configured in a very flexible way. The complete DigiMedia software is based on a SQL database. This makes the system very flexible.

It is possible to add more than one SQL database and manage these from the DBC. It is also possible to copy the entries with the music files from one database to an other one.

From the DBC it is possible to add additional information to the entries.

This information could be some text that is connected to the element, al-bum or artist, or it can be a link. This additional information will then be easily accessible from the DigiMedia studio client.

It is possible to export lists to a bank, a stack, or to several text file formats

or to a printer. With a very easy and effective planning tool the managing of the entries in

the database is made very comfortable. Copy from the database some entries to a CD are made very quickly with

the DigiMedia DiscWriter.

2.2 Starting the Database Client (DBC)

When you start the DigiMedia database client (DBC) by doubleclicking the icon on the desktop or in the startmenu, the following window appears:

Enter user name and password for accessing the DBC. If starting the DBC for the first time or to change the database, the next

window will appear. This window may be opened any time with Ctrl + En-ter as well.

For any configuration changes please consult the separate setup manual or

ask your system administrator.

2.3 Available Work Areas

The main full screen of the database manager can show several work and display windows in different arrangement and sizes, depending on mode and task currently selected.

A typical display with several windows is shown below. When terminating a DBC session, all user-modified window and column

sizes will be stored in the Windows registry. All settings defined by the configuration tool are stored in the respective tables of the database.

2.4.1 Search

The upper pull-down menu presents the search items and columns defined in the database table (by configuration tool):

Enter the search string in the lower line. Advanced search criteria may be

used with boolean operators as follows:

Operator Example entry OR (separated by commas) Love, Rain “Love” but NOT “Rain” (with a preceding “-”)

Love –Rain

AND (separated by a space) Love Rain 2.4.2 Presets

The Presets tree is based on the structure created as documented in the configuration tool (Table/Search Presets).

All SQL queries for the selected tree and branch headers are defined in the common SQL language for queries.

2.4.4 Time Table

The “Timetable” item allows a selection for a programmed event according to different parameters, such as:

Timetable Modes Planned, Start Date, End Date, Delete Date, Created, Modified (1) Date Exact, Start, End, Past, Future, Week, Month (2). Categories Either all categories are shown here, or only the ones previously assigned

in the DigiMedia configuration tool (3). This is a very efficient tool to manage the database entries. With the “Timetable”, management of the entries is fast and more easy for

the administrator. When the “Timetable” settings are made, the administra-tor can find the entries to be deleted or played on the current playlist with few mouse clicks.

3 Enter date, mode (upper pull-down) and categories (lower pull-down) and

click “Find Now”, and all entries with corresponding parameters will be shown in the “My Entries” search result field. Only the entries specified within the defined timetable margins will be listed.

The “Today” button sets the calendar to today’s date. So it is easy to find entries to be played or deleted today.

2.4.6 Add a New Entry

An entry is information saved in the database. This information can either be just the information itself (e.g. a memo or log notes), or the information with some audio file added, or a command for an external device.

There are different ways to add a new entry to the database. 1. When clicking “New” on the “My Entries” taskbar, the window shown

below will open. After clicking “Save”, the Edit window will open for en-tering parameters for this entry and for the DigiMedia recorder. Now it is possible to make a recording or import and add an audiofile to the entry.

2. First make a recording with one of the audio editors and save the new track

in the data base. This will open the window below. After clicking “Save” it the Edit window will open for entering additional parameters. Now it is possible to overwrite the audio file with the Recorder, or to make an import and overwrite the recorded file.

3. With the DigiMedia CD-Import - see chapter CD-Import. First configure the “New Entry Presets” with the DigiMedia configuration

tool. See the separate setup manual for more information on this subject.

This window could perhaps look slightly different, depending on the table

type. See the separate setup manual for more information on these table type differences.

one data base is available. Type For entering the type. The parameters will be set automatically. These

types are defined on the configuration tool. Artist Field for entering the artists name. Title Field for entering the track title.

of lists, playlist/log, stack or bank may be selected. From V5.1, playlists are now available for past, current and future days.

Loglists are displayed for past and current days. Playlists will be seg-mented in two colors: blue for titles already played, green for titles to be played.

Important: The current playlist of the day is locked for one hour. It cannot be modified

from the data base client. If the playlist must be modified, this must be made on the studio client directly. This restriction has been foreseen in or-der not to confuse the studio client operator.

In the playlist, Sync will be shown like this.

In the beginning, the scheduler can be used to create a basic playlist. The

definitive playlist can be processed much easier with the DigiMedia data-base manager. However, experts with much scheduler experience can also create playlists with the scheduler only.

Entering a start time only makes sense together with a “Sync” command,

otherwise the start time will be ignored. Synchronization to defined time flags is only active in automatic mode;

optional events (spares) will be sent to the clipboard automatically instead of being played.

Sync may be selected either as “Sync to a fixed time” or as “Sync to an approximate time” (fixed time: * / approx. time: #).

Sync commands: * Start of the event will be at an exactly defined time. All running events will

receive a Fade Out command immediately prior to this time. # Start of the event will be approximately at the entered time. The last run-

ning event will continue to its end and will then trigger the event. a/b Sets the a or b chain for partial automation of the marked block. 2.5.2.2 Add Text or a Link to the Playlist with the DigiMedia Database Manager

2.10 DigiMedia DiscWriter

2.10.1 General

This application must not be mixed up with the existing CD-Import utility. CD-Import is mainly used for grabbing CD audio tracks and converting them to MPEG 1/Layer2 files, including the minimum necessary entries into the database table. DiscWriter, however, is a tool that can be accessed from the DBC and allows transferring selected audio tracks to (re-) record-able media such as CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW. Which recordable media can be used depends only on the installed recorder drive.

A full scale writing speed test is performed before a write process starts. Inserting a recordable CD medium will give two alternatives of storing au-dio – either as a data CD containing the original MPG-files or as a playable CD-Audio with linear PCM files.

Writing onto DVD will always result in a data DVD (with a much larger storage capacity).

2.10.2 DiscWriter Main Windows

To open the disk writer, select an audio file that has to be written to CD

(from Search or Listview). With the left mouse button click “Send to DiscWriter”. The window shown above will open and indicates the added audio file.

To add another track from the database to the DiskWriter click “Add File”. This will open the DBC again to select the additional track.

It is also possible to add a file from another location (i.e., not from the DigiMedia database). Select “Add External File…” to add an external file to the DiscWriter list.

2.10.3 DiscWriter Settings

Before writing to recordable CD or DVD media the two following steps

must be performed: • Select media type from the pull-down menu: Audio-CD, Data-CD or Data-

DVD • Click “Write Disc” and check the settings and the displayed data for your

favorite writing mode: Writing Speed, Disk Write Method, Options. Please check whether your local CD writer drive can be accessed to as a

user with standard access rights. Otherwise use the MMC console to set the group policies for enabling the default set CD drive access restrictions (please refer to the setup manual for details).

Note: When compiling mono audio files for burning, take care not to exceed the

overall size of approx. 350 MB in order to create an audio CD. Otherwise the burn process will abort since the DiscWriter assumes a stereo re-cording and doubles the required disk space for burning (which, in this case will exceed the standard capacity of some 700 MB).

Even if the available disc space is not sufficient, the “Write Disk” button is not disabled. Any attempt to start the burning will result in an unusable CD-R.

This audio editor usually is part of the delivery content of a database client license. It is different from the DAVID DigaSystem editing software in several aspects. These (SingleTrack 4, EasyTrack 4 and MultiTrack 4) must be ordered and purchased separately and are not included in basic DigiMedia licenses.

However, for specific purposes/applications, the embedded AE.exe audio

editor may be disabled (by just removing or renaming its EXE-file), par-ticularly if DAVID editors should be used as main editing applications. Us-ing both types of editors on the same system makes little sense because working experience should be concentrated to one specific editor family due to the complexity of functions available, even in one editor type.

The many complex functions available in this Audio Editor are not de-

scribed here in detail, because most customers use Audio Editor from David. Please refer to the separate description if you want to use the Digi-Media audio editors.

3 STUDIO CLIENT

3.1 General

The on-air screen is considered as the “heart” of the DigiMedia user inter-face. It controls the connected devices and manages all system-relevant data. Saving of data is performed in the workstation that accommodates the central database; for small systems this may be the on-air workstation it-self. However, for medium-sized hard disk systems this will usually be a dedicated network server.

The main screen is based on a monitor resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. This application should whenever possible be used with 19” TFT screens. It is also possible to use 17” TFT screens, but due to the reduced pixel size it will result in smaller lettering of the important playlist text lines.

3.2 Screen

The DigiMedia on-air screen is subdivided into four areas: • Display section, • Playlist/mode functions, • Jingle/bank lists, and • Menu buttons

3.2.1 Display Section

The DigiMedia display section is located at the top edge of the screen. It

shows a horizontal analog bar with three digital clocks. The display always shows the lowest running event (marked by the red buttons in the playlist section). The analog bar graph shows the time within the running event. Besides, the currently running time is displayed on a large digital display at the right of the bar display.

Bar Graph Colors: Red Elapsed time Blue Intro Green Remaining time Blue Outro (time between the end of the track and Next). Identical information is shown as absolute values (accurate by seconds) on

the digital readout. Dynamic Display Lettering: After the lapse of the Outro phase the wording “Next” will appear, refer-

ring to the blue part on the right hand side of the analog bar graph. “Next” will change to “Next!” (with an exclamation point), indicating that

DigiMedia had to move the start time of the next item due to a DropIn ac-tivity.

3.2.2 Playlist / Mode Functions

3.2.2.1 Playlist Commands

The playlist shows 11 events. They can be started, stopped or paused with the “hot” button on the left of the event field. This button directly controls on-air activity.

Listen The “Listen” label and function are only accessible when the event is in

cued status, i.e., loaded and ready to be played. The “Listen” button will open a window used for accessing the Start, Cho-

rus and End points rehearsal of a title.

Intro/Set Will temporarily set a new Intro value (the modified time will appear in the

playlist title bar after having closed the Listen window with “Quit”). Intro/Reset Recalls the value saved in the library card of that event. Setting new cue points can be applied to either hard disk or CD titles. The

Listen window will in this case have a slightly different appearance. Notes: The button labels of the left row always show the currently available com-

mand but never the current status. Button fields without labeling have cur-rently no function.

Events can be started with the button at the left of the title field. The Pause function can be activated in the DMEDIA.INI configuration file and is not pre-selected by default.

For manual mode an event can be triggered by a mixing console fader, provided that a corresponding wiring has been established, and the fader start configuration is correct (see chapter “Fader start”).

In auto mode (select with the red “Auto” button) some interactions on but-tons are disabled as long as the setting AUTOMODE=0 has not been changed to “1”.

Moving the titles in the playlist area is performed with the six arrow but-tons:

... to the top of the playlist ... one page up in the playlist ... one line up in the playlist ... one line down in the playlist ... one page down in the playlist ... to the playlist’s bottom. Since SW V4.0.0 SE any list scrolling may also be performed by means of

the scroll-wheel, common today with practically all newer mouse models. Note: When setting the motion parameters for such mice please take care to set

the scroll-mode value to “1 line per wheel-click” .The default value usually is preset to 3 lines per wheel-click which is convenient for text-processing but not for list scrolling.

3.2.2.4 Mode Functions

The column of buttons to the right of the arrow buttons is used for manual,

temporary changes to the playlist. To do this, the functions Get and Clip are available.

The six mode functions Clip, Get, History, Library, Info, and Chain ar-ranged in a vertical row activate a preselection, valid for all titles of the loaded playlist. The activated function turns its button to white.

Clip For moving a track from the playlist to the clipboard, first click “Clip”,

then click on the desired track. ! Useful special function: Any track (re-) moved in this way can be re-inserted immediately to any

position of the playlist with the right mouse button (cut-and-paste func-tion). The title will be inserted one step below the mouse pointer.

Get Moves the selected title to the top position, just below the currently playing title. A newly placed event can never get ahead of the one that is already playing.

History Shows the history of the particular event since the last library reset. Library Library entry sheet of the selected title – for viewing only, no modifica-

tions possible. The lines are defined with the configuration tool (CT). Info Opens the text window linked to an event. The events containing such in-

formation could be marked by “i”, “!!”, “??” or “$” characters. For more information on this subject refer to the following chapter and to chapter 2.4.7.2 “Add text to an entry”.

Chain Allows chaining two or more events by clicking on the desired events. Please note that there are two independent chaining selections (red or blue bar on the very left of the event field – the red group is selected by a single, the blue group by a double click). All chained entries are played back through the same audio output.

DigiMedia CAB System

The rule says that a chain sequence of the same color already started will run in chained mode to its end before changing to the other chain color is allowed..

The chain color “yellow”, however, is not a real chain function but a repeat facility of the highlighted title, preventing this title from disappearing from the list after having been played. This feature has to be activated by LOOPACTIVE=1. Please refer to “INI-files” in chapter 6.3.

Link Opens an internet URL saved in the database with the corresponding title. Prerequisites are a separate Internet workstation within the DigiMedia net-work with an additional software module and a saved URL address.

Listen Pre-selection for the pre-listening function, valid for both the items in the playlist and the items in the banks. For information on the Listen window please refer to chapter 3.2.2.1.

IMPORTANT Drag-and-drop mode within the playlist window and from/to the banks is

inactive as long as one of the buttons listed above is active, unless you press the center mouse button.

3.2.2.5 Additional Information

As explained above, a text or a link may be added to an entry. Added in-formation is displayed or opened with the “Info” and the “Link” buttons. The screenshot below shows text added to the “CECILIA/SIMON & GAR-FUNKEL” track in the “Artist” and “Element” categories.

Note: There is no icon, label or flag provided in the playlist to show whether a

related entry has been permanently saved or not. Adding some “!!!”, “???” or “$$” characters is recommended in order to label entries containing ad-ditional information.

These attachments are created in the database client when calling up the

detail mask of a database entry. Such data may also be added or deleted later by opening the entry field using the tabs. Web links and pictures are displayed in the browser of the workstation on which the DMCONNI.EXE task has been started. DMCONNI.EXE comes with the basic DigiMedia application, but it has to be activated separately by saving it in the “DMEDIA” folder; this is usually done either on the audio server or on the studio client workstation itself. Please make sure to have DMCONNI automatically started right from the beginning by adding it to the Windows Startup (or Autostart) list.

3.2.3 Drag-and-Drop Details

• Titles in the playlist can be freely moved around within the list using the familiar Windows drag-and-drop technique. The result is displayed imme-diately.

• Drag-and-drop with copy function (instead of just moving): Hold Ctrl in addition.

Note: Moving or copying is only possible for titles which have not been cued yet. • If one of the function buttons (in the bar directly at the right of the playlist

titles) is pressed, drag-and-drop functionality with the left mouse button is not available. The function can then be used nevertheless with the center mouse button instead. Thus it is recommended to use a three-button mouse for the DigiMedia on-air workstation for V4.0.SE and up.

When using a wheel mouse, please assign the center mouse button (wheel) accordingly from the mouse-specific setup menu.

• Titles from the banks can no more be moved to the playlist with a double-click. To do this, the ”Get” button must be activated before; then it is done with a simple click in the playlist. Drag-and-drop is possible as an alterna-tive.

• Pre-listening to titles from the banks is possible too, now. In general, if the “Listen” button is activated, each title from a playlist or bank can be moved to the button; the listen window will open.

• Clip function: If active, the right mouse button can be used to move a clipped title from

the recycle bin back to the playlist. • Use of the function buttons: If active, any title from a playlist or bank can be moved onto this activated

button. The function is processed. The title remains in the list and in the bank, i.e., no drag operation.

• When using the remote on-air workstation, the same applies for drag-and-drop as has been said for the on-air Studio workstation.

Note: For this reason corresponding DMEDIA.EXE and DMREMOTE.EXE ver-

sions must always be installed and loaded; otherwise, the functionality of on-air and remote on-air workstations will be inconsistent.

3.3 Menu Buttons

Insert Direct access to the library in the on-air screen to load any selection imme-

diately into the playlist. This access can be very useful either for musical request programs (listeners’ interaction by phone) or if immediate playing of an event is necessary. Usually, however, the playlist should be edited with the DigiMedia database client (DBC) because any changes from the on-air screen are temporary only and will be lost at a system restart. For more information on the search please refer to the next chapter.

Import For adding audio files not contained in the database, but from the folder named Import. To use this option the audio file has to be copied to the Im-port folder in the DMEDIA folders before.

Stack Access to the selection menu of prepared blocks (stacks) of events to be inserted into the playlist.

Bank Two folders with identical structure are provided. They allow accessing the pre-loaded title banks that can automatically be loaded into the three Jingle button rows in the right part of the on-air screen.

This option is also useful if you have long titles in the bank and the banks on the right side are too short to display the entire title.

Recycle All events clipped during a day are filed in the recycle bin. To retrieve them into the playlist, double-click on the event in the recycle list. The events in the recycle list are sorted in ascending alphabetical order.

Played The ”Played” area contains the played events sorted by their start time. Since they already have been played, the selection of Log/Get or double-clicking on an event provokes copying of this event into the playlist. It still remains, however, as an item in the list.

Text Short text notes can be displayed in the on-air screen with the “Text” but-ton. These notes are, in contrast to the notes recalled with “Info”, not re-lated to the currently played title. Editing of such a text is performed with Windows Notepad and saved afterwards as *.TXT. This feature is consid-ered to be a kind of a memo pad for the DJ.

Options Opens a window for various additional tasks (some of them are only active if the corresponding tasks are implemented into the system – software en-hancements at extra cost).

Easy Control Allows an easy operating mode with fading between titles (Next) as well as fading out the running title (Stop). Same functions as Next/Stop button in playlist column.

Remote (Option) Only active if the optional remote software has been installed. Chat Gives access to the text windows of the bi-directional Chat mode (ex-

change of short messages via the open remote line). Hang-Up Terminates the Remote Mode operation. This command can be given from

either side (Studio or Remote location). Radiotext (Option) Only active if the optional software has been installed. Access to the selec-

tion menu for generating all types of RDS messages (dynamic RDS) for indication on the receiver display.

External Switches Display of an array of eight rocker-type toggle switches; for manual or

programmed switching of a dedicated port of the on-air workstation for ex-ternal devices.

This generally requires an additional interface plug-in card with switch inputs and outputs.

Control Opens the access to manually-controlled (direct execution) or to program-controlled (from the playlist) switching functions. Communication to the external devices is via one serial port of the on-air workstation.

3.3.1 Search Mode for Title Inserts

Searching according to an artist or to a title has now been facilitated by entering at least 3 letters. The system is interpreting this concatenation of characters as a word or as part of a word, and it will search for this string in all entries of the database “Artist” or “Title” columns.

After a short training time, this method will soon prove to be very conven-ient.

Example: Selecting “Title” and entering the characters r-a-i-n will result in displaying

all titles containing the word “rain”, but also the word “train”, etc. The screenshot below shows a search for “Artist” + “Simon”, also listing “Nina Simone” or “Simon” as a part of the full artist’s name.

The well-accepted search method according to preset “categories” or “key-

words” has been maintained from previous versions as shown by the next screenshot.

3.3.1.1 Programmable On-Air Search Fields

Version V5.1 and higher offers an additional number of selectable database columns according to which a search string can be entered. The selection from the two default column names ARTIST and TITLE may be extended by adding new statements in a separate configuration file named DMEDIASQL.INI and saved in the subfolder X:\DMEDIA\CONFIG, as shown in the example below.

[ONAIRSEARCHFIELDS] Artist=f_Artist 0 Title=f_Title 1 Duration=f_Duration 1 Filename=f_Id 1 Group=f_Group 1 Composer/Producer=f_Writer 1 Device=f_Device 0 Producer=f_00005 The displayed name of the search criteria need not correspond with the

SQL column name and can be customized, even in 2-byte fonts such as Arabic, etc. Any column name listed here must be present in the Fields Management selection of the configuration tool. Please note that any cus-tom names – different from the standard column set – will get an SQL col-umn name with a numerical structure, such as f_00005. This is system in-herent and can not be influenced.

Parameter “0” will switch the search result to Artist/Title display sequence, while “1” will show it in the Title/Artist sequence.

As explained in the chapter before, search entries must contain at least 3 characters or numeric entries. Otherwise no search process will be started. This, in turn, means that any database column values containing or allow-ing only a smaller number of characters can not be retrieved.

Examples: f_Year with two digits does not allow a search for these two figures only. f_Duration is a special case where two digits and the colon will be ac-

cepted for an approximate value search range – which is quite useful in lo-cating a certain playing time length of a take.

3.4 Automation Mode

Auto/Manual Toggles between automatic and manual modes. Automatic operation is indicated by the “Automation!” label in the upper display bar and by changing the color of the “Auto” button (red/green).

In automatic mode various functions are performed by the system auto-

matically. When receiving an error message from the system or from an ex-ternal device, the event concerned will be cancelled from the playlist auto-matically. When receiving an error during playback of that event, a new event will be started immediately.

Automation mode is capable to detect “jumping” or “hanging” CDs and

will then set the affected device to Pause status, deletes the event from the playlist, and starts a new event.

In Automation mode the system tries to have one event playing (ON)

whenever possible and to avoid any breaks in the program sequence, ex-cept if Sync-to-time is active (= *) – then the system will wait for the marked start time.

When the playlist is empty and the setting in the DMEDIA.ini file is made

to Autoscheduler=1, it will load a default playlist. Please note that for this feature the DigiMedia Scheduler has to be installed.

3.5 Fader Start

Events may be started in manual mode by opening the fader on the con-nected mixing console (or by closing the fader start contact), provided that they have been in Cue status before (green color, status display “Listen” or “Cued”).

Closing the fader causes clipping of the event allocated to that fader. Usually the faders’ access to the system is disabled in Automation mode.

Prerequisite of performing a fader start is appropriate wiring of the fader contacts to the mixing console and the CD controller in use.

Opening a fader allocated to an event being in preparation (status = Cue-ing) causes a next cueing of this event.

The hook-up of the fader start interface for Studer OnAir 2000 or OnAir

1000 digital mixing consoles is shown in the appendix. Consoles with soft-ware V2.0.2 and up can be equipped with a serial “Monitora” interface, al-lowing for a more comprehensive control of the console by the on-air workstation. If doing so, a SW upgrade to V3.0.10 is recommended.

3.6 Jingle/Bank List

This chapter explains what banks are used for, what kinds of banks exist, and how to use them.

Basically the right-hand part of the screen might also be used for the dis-

play of future enhancements; it needs not necessarily be reserved for banks only, depending on the customer’s requirements. If several different appli-cations share the right-hand part, the current display will be selectable from taskbar tabs on top.

For the current software release the right part of the screen is used for

banks only; however, there are three bank columns now. Banks can be created by holding the Ctrl key during saving (with “Quit”)

from the banks editing menu. Movable banks are banks that can be filled and cleared by the user with simple drag-and-drop actions on the on-air screen.

Moving events from bank to playlist and vice versa (or within a bank) is

performed by drag-and-drop using the left mouse button, as usual. Drag-and-drop with simultaneously pressed Ctrl key: The dragged event is being copied instead of just moved; this works in both directions, too. Each event dropped to an empty position of the bank automatically fills the bank.

If a function (such as Clip, Get, Listen, etc.) has been preselected, the drag-

and-drop playlist/bank editing (or editing within the bank) must be per-formed with the center mouse button.

If titles from the movable banks are started with “InstantPlay”, they will be

removed from the list. Drag-and-drop to the movable banks can be issued from other windows as

well, e.g. from the Played or Recycled window, or from other movable banks.

Events (titles) from non-movable banks can be copied to the playlist with

drag-and-drop as follows: • Open the bank window using the button in the taskbar at the bottom of the

screen • Select the desired bank • Select the desired title • Move it to the target position. The changes made in a movable bank on the studio client will not be saved

in the database. If the movable bank is closed and re-opened again, it will again look exactly the same as when it was created with the database client.

3.7 OnAir Screen Icons and Colors

All settings for the individual presentation of the on-air screen are per-formed by clicking with the right mouse button in a neutral screen area (that usually is gray). However, this selection requires a corresponding en-try in the DMEDIA.INI file (refer to the appendix, parameter USER-SETTING=1). All parameters selected in this way are saved in the file DMPARAMS.INI (C:\WINNT). If this file is copied to the on-air remote workstation, the color presentation will duplicate the color settings of the on-air workstation.

The selection boxes appear on the screen as follows:

Icons/Font Selection The top menu item allows toggling the selection and menu buttons (at the

right of the playlist and at the bottom of the screen) from graphical to text representation.

Mark InstantPlay Banks If “InstantPlay” is active, a warning frame with selectable color around the bank concerned may be activated. This is done with the menu item “In-stantPlay” – “Mark Instant Play”.

Background/Text Colors Some predefined color schemes can be selected, as well as defined indi-vidually with access to the Windows color scheme. “Change Custom Set-tings...” shows all selection possibilities.

Music Category Colors With “Type Depending playlist Background Colors...”, an individual color can be selected for each type assigned to audio events.

Note: The color selection should be made cautiously, preferably with pale grada-

tions, because these colors act upon the operator over extended time peri-ods and should not lead to fatigue. Carefully testing of a sensible selection and combination is therefore recommended.

We also recommend disabling the color setting feature once the colors have been set (set usersettings=0 in the DMEDIA.INI file), so that nobody can change these color settings. This is recommended in order to avoid confusion of some operators if someone else should have changed the col-ors.

3.8 Studio Remote Control (Option)

The remote software module is an option available separately. It is installed on the remote workstation only (e.g. on a notebook with a modem connec-tion).

Setup/Test Mode 1 Select the Remote Mode application by means of the automatic Setup

Menu from the CD on your remote workstation. You need the correspond-ing key code for validating the application.

2) Install the local modem correctly, according to the modem and PC manu-als.

3) Match the parameters in paragraph [REMOTE] of your DMEDIA.INI file to your modem (baud rate, COM port, etc.) and modify the matching pass-word providing protection against unauthorized access to the main studio.

4) Enter the dialing number of the host modem in the main studio.

5) Start the DMREMOTE application from the PC desktop. The remote PC establishes the connection, after which a telephone symbol

appears at the top left of the screen. Any false trial will result in aborting the phone connection immediately.

6) Test the two-way communication: Search an event from the data base – same procedure as in the main studio. Activate pre-listening of that event. Activate Chat Mode, enter a short message text and wait for your partner’s

answer.

7) Remote mode can be terminated either from the remote station or from the Main Studio by clicking the “Hang-up” button.

tion (modem or network): see appendix.

4 PLAYLISTS

4.1 The Automatic Scheduler

DigiMedia incorporates a powerful scheduler which allows the composi-tion of entire program sequences according to given criteria.

First of all the events will be loaded from the clock files according to the

description in the corresponding day file. Then a continuously changing al-gorithm serves for searching events matching the loaded playlist from the database. Suitable events will be inserted into the list.

The process is completed as soon as the entire library has been read, or

when all required events have been scheduled. The scheduler will select from the choice of retrieved events the ones that have not been selected for the longest interval before.

At the same time clipping, erasing and manual editing will be taken into

consideration. 4.2 Playlist Characteristics

A broadcasting grid will be defined according to files describing the type and style of different program parts. The scheduler will refer to these files in order to automatically generate broadcast playlists, e.g. for one or for several weeks.

Clock A clock file (extension *.CLK) contains the characteristics of e.g. a one

hour program (time span is selectable). Day A day file (extension *.DAY) contains the program grid for one day. The

number of clock files depends on the length of the clocks used to match one full day.

Script A script file (file name DMSKRIPT.SKT) contains a list of day file names. Each day file represents a one-day program.

The scheduler automatically selects the events of the library depending on

the information contained in these three files. Thus, a playlist will be gen-erated for each day.

4.3 Main

When the DigiMedia scheduler has been started it shows the following window:

Edit Clocks Allows selecting or creating a .CLK file that describes each event type

within a “clock” time span (usually one hour). Edit Days Allows selecting, modifying or creating a specific day schedule that con-

tains the previously defined clocks. Edit Scheduler Script Defines the day date(s) for one or more playlists to be scheduled (only

current or future date possible). Format: YYMMDD Start Scheduler Starts the automatic program compilation according to the predefined pa-

rameters. Before, the selection in the scheduler script has to be made. All lists indicated there will be generated, provided that their date is not elapsed already.

4.3.1 Clock Files (*.CLK)

The easiest way to create new clock files is to modify an existing one. Please start using the default one delivered with the system and modify it according to your needs.

• Open the editor and click on the icon “Edit Clocks” on the toolbar. • Select the desired clock name (if existing) or create a new one. • Edit the clock times or parameter entries and save them.

Group (title from group A) Type (title of type M = musik) Style (title with style P* [P* can be PS, PR]) Year (year of issue of the title: 9* = 90...99) Speed (F = fast) Formation (* = no indication) Language (E = English) Sex (* = no indication) Hit (* = no indication) User (** = no indication) No display in the left part of the window: Artist Lock (25 = artist is locked for the next 25 titles) Title Lock (800 = title is locked for the next 800 titles) Day Lock (0 = title is locked for 0 days)

Number of Events Calculate with an average duration of approx. 3 minutes / event With a spare time of about 15 minutes it is suggested to put 20 to 25 music

events per hour (75 minutes). During playback, the events that cannot be played will be transferred to the

clipboard immediately. Syntax Each line characterizes one event according to the parameters set in the

screen mask on the right-hand side of the window. Artist Lock The number of events before the same artist can be selected again; with

“25” the artist will be locked out for about one hour. Title Lock The number of events before the same title can be selected again; not more

than half the library. * The Scheduler accepts all entries of the Library (wild card) Note: For the “Year” category (two digits) it is possible to form groups. When

setting one of the following letters as second digit instead of a number, ranges of years can be defined:

X = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 A = 1, 2 F = 0, 1 K = 1, 2, 3 Y = 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 B = 3, 4 G = 2, 3 L = 4, 5, 6 C = 5, 6 H = 4, 5 M = 7, 8, 9 D = 7, 8 I = 6, 7 E = 9, 0 J = 8, 9 Note: If “Lock” is set to a value greater than the number of titles available in the

library, this title will be available once a day only. For Memos (e.g. type T), the “Event Lock” should always be set to “0 0 0”.

Browser The Browser button will open a list showing all entries found with the pa-

rameters entered in the clock editor. 4.3.2 Day Files (*.DAY)

Editing or Creating Day Files The easiest way to create a new day file is to modify one of the existing day files. Sample files are usually available after installation of a new sys-tem.

• Open the Scheduler and click on the “Edit Days” icon in the toolbar. • Select an existing day structure and modify it according to your needs

(length and number of Clocks). • Save it under a different name (menu “File”, item “Save as...”); select a

name with up to eight characters and a “.DAY” extension (e.g. MON-DAY1.DAY).

• Close the Notepad editor. Syntax HH:MM:SS_X_Clock name HH:MM:SS = Start time of the Clock; X = may be a * or a # (# = synchronization approximately to time, without

fade-out of the last event); * = synchronization to the exact time with fade-out of the last event);

Clock Name = Name of the Clock file, without “.CLK” extension. Synchronization refers to the first event of the corresponding Clock. Odd

events will be bypassed automatically (in Auto-Mode) and filed in the clip-board.

17:00 to 18:00 no music programs will be scheduled. 4.3.3 Script Files

Editing the Script File • Open the Scheduler and click on the toolbar button “Edit Scheduler Skript”.

• Select the day types you want to use for the automatic scheduling (you may select several ones and let the scheduler program them sequentially without any supervision).

The scheduler will process the days according to the given sequence within the mask and stop its operation automatically after the last run.

• Close the editor window with “Quit”. The new scheduler day dates are saved automatically and will be ready for the scheduler start afterwards (click on “Start Scheduler”).

Syntax Verify that the entered dates have the following format: YYMMDD = Year, month, day – as the date of the day to be prepared. Example: Tuesday 080722 Wednesday 080723 Thursday 080724 This sequence generates three different playlists for the days July, 22, 23,

and 24, 2002.

4.4 Manual Playlist Editing

The DigiMedia database client (DBC) can be used to create and edit play-lists manually.

Opening the Playlist Editor Open the DBC, select “Open List” and select a day that has to be made. For

details please refer to chapter 2, “DigiMedia database client“. 4.4.1 Creating Memos as an Information in the Playlist

Purpose • Entering additional information to the playlist • Definition of events that do not control a device • To be used as first event of an hour if you do not want to synchronize to

the first music track, and for identification of the clock concerned (name of the clock).

Effect • In automation and manual modes the memo is clipped as soon as the fol-

lowing track in the playlist is started. Parameter Syntax Example Artist 30 char., alpha Memo Title 30 char., alpha News, traffic announcement Type 1 char., alpha Memo Id 8 char., alpha Memo XXXXXXXX (X = name of the memo, e.g.

Sports01) Device 7 char., alpha

4.4.2 Operation During Time Change Winter to Summer / Summer to Winter

General Regional changes between standard time and daylight saving time will only be activated in your server or in your PC workstation if the corresponding option has been set in the Windows Control Panel. With external time ref-erences the changeover has been preset already and does not require any further adjustments in the PC.

Please note that the examples below do not apply for all countries except for those where such time changes are a fact. Dates and times for the changeover may also vary for different countries.

In Spring (End of March): Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time The clock is advanced for one hour during the night from 01:59:59 to 03:00:00 By this action nothing deteriorating will happen to a programmed system

except that there will be too many titles available for the programmed time block (if programmed by automatic scheduling). These surplus titles will be clipped from the playlist. All originally planned items between 02:00 and 03:00 will drop.

E4/6 Playlists SW V5.2 SE Date printed: 22.02.2008

Page 71: DigiMedia… · DigiMedia CAB System F: Driver Software • Control of soundcards and all other peripheral devices via serial or parallel interfaces, activated by means of specially

DigiMedia CAB System

In Fall (End of October): Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time Due to the fact that the clock will be set back during the night from 02:59:59 to 02:00:00, you will need some additional audio tracks with a total duration of at least

2 hours for the initial time lap of 2:00 to 03:00. If this provision is not being made the system will lack one hour audio pro-

gram material. Therefore plan twice as many titles for the time period between 02:00 and

03:00 in order to grant uninterrupted playout. In addition it is highly recommended to remove any * or # Syncs at 03:00

for the scheduled playlist in the critical night, or to shift them to a time slightly later than 03:00, such as to 03:01.

5 CD IMPORT

Purpose The optional CD Import module serves as a powerful tool for importing existing audio tracks on any CD media (CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW) to the hard disk memory of the CAB system while entering the necessary library information into the database of the system.

If the specific workstation has a permanent internet connection, informa-tion about the inserted CD can be fetched from a public database (http://freedb.org) containing title, artist, label and various other informa-tion, depending on the selected tracks for downloading and saving.

Installation, Operation With any licensed database client you will gain access to this tool by start-

ing CDI.EXE (to do so, establish a new icon on your desktop). The main menu will present all possible options as shown in the screen-

shots below. The program will call for all compulsory entries before the ripping process can start.

Note: If “Normalize Audio” has been selected, the ripping process will run in two

phases: 1st Run: The entire track will be checked upon its levels for normalizing. 2nd Run: The track will be ripped and converted to the selected output format.

Setup Screen Details a) Select CD-Drive configuration and improved CD jitter check • With the “Type” pull-down menu the automatic recognition of the installed

CD drive and its optimum settings can be selected. This procedure is strongly recommended as a first step. For the recommended (Plextor and Yamaha) drives a special selection is available.

• When using other drive models some test runs have to prove the best pos-sible settings by selecting one of the suggested alternatives. Beyond the mentioned drives no further recommendations can be given since the avail-able choice on the market is subject to a rapid change.

• Enhanced Jitter Check: Whenever possible, keep this feature activated.

d) Select internet database and proxy server (if required) Note: The default entry in the mask (in the example below: freedb.org) can not be

recalled later but has must be created during the first installation of the CD Import module. Please note the exact syntax of address and script entries for any later re-use!

It can be selected in the configuration tool whether the program should

access the CD-drive via WNASPI32.DLL or use the internal routines. WNASPI32.DLL is usually included in any CD writer software.

In case that no WNASPI32.DLL driver is available, this will be displayed. Without WNASPI32.DLL the ripping speed may increase heavily (factor 20...23).

If CD Import will not start, copy WNASPI32.DLL into the Windows folder or install a well-established CD writer software.

Normalizer and Skip Silence functions: The values are defined by default as most reasonable values, from best

practice experience. Note: Normalize and Skip Silence will cut off empty samples at the beginning and

at the end of the take. Activating Skip Silence only will cut off the empty samples only at the

beginning. [CDT] NORMALIZE=xx ; xx = tenths of dBFS; default value is 30 (-3.0 dBFS) SILENCE=xx ; xx = tenths of dBFS; default value is 550 (-55dB) Select the server for accessing the freedb.org data base (or perhaps a local

mirror – information on this subject can be found on the main home page of http://www.freedb.org).

6 APPENDIX

6.1 DMEDIA.INI System Configuration File

DMEDIA.INI is the configuration file containing all individual settings and such differing from the standard default configuration.

It is located in the DMEDIA subdirectory (e.g. S:\DMEDIA\CONFIG, where “S” is the mapped server drive).

Important • Any listed default values need not to be entered. • All listed and explained features are valid from the version indicated in the

leftmost column. • Each serial communications port (COMx) must have a separate interrupt

(IRQ), otherwise Windows errors can occur; special multiport cards shar-ing interrupts over their driver are exceptions from this rule. Please check the port configuration in the Control Panel section for System Settings. DigiMedia is designed to control one or several Digigram audio cards and external devices (such as Radiotext Encoder, Remote PC, Studer OnAir 1000/2000/3000 Mixing Consoles, AM-16 Audio Matrix, Denon MiniDisc Player, etc.).

• Changing of any possible value should only be done by experienced system administrators. Be aware of any consequences due to changed parameters. Otherwise the user takes the risk of jeopardizing the safe operation of the entire system or its parts.

Rows shaded in gray in this chapter are earlier commands that are

usually no longer used in the latest release. Backward compatibility of these parameters with release V4.0 can not be warranted for each situation or configuration. In case of doubt please contact the Studer product support.

6.1.1 Further System Configuration Hints

6.1.1.1 Device Drivers

Any device declared in the DMEDIA.INI file will remain unused as long as the corresponding driver is not loaded. There is no need to delete it. How-ever, never try to load a driver without its corresponding entry in the DMEDIA-INI file.

6.1.1.2 Number of Faders

Additional devices always start with number 3; nos. 1 and 2 have formerly been used for the CC-100 CD-Controller. Never use the same number for different peripheral devices if they are active simultaneously.

6.1.1.3 Crossfade Features of Audio Channels

The audio channels are offering an AutoCrossfade feature depending on the specific configuration. A maximum of four different crossfade types with different behaviour can be defined as follows:

[DIGI] DELTAEOM1=10 Typical behavior for type M (Music). Auto

LEVELEOM1=24 crossfade @ –24 dB, activated 10 s prior to end. EOMTYPE1=M

DELTAEOM2=3 Typical behavior for type J (Jingle). Auto

LEVELEOM2=–25 crossfade @ –25 dB, activated 3 s prior to end. EOMTYPE2=J DELTAEOM3=0 Typical behavior for type W (Commercials).

LEVELEOM3=–55 Auto crossfade @ –55 dB, activated 0 s prior EOMTYPE3=W to end. This means de facto no crossfading..

6.1.1.4 Remote Operation

Remote operation of the OnAir workstation does not make part of the stan-dard software package but can be purchased as a separate option module. It will become operational only when installed properly from the original dis-tribution CD with the appropriate keycode.

Basically two operating modes are available: • Transmission via telephone line (analog 14’400 Bd and up, or via ISDN

modem), or • Transmission via internal network. To do so, the OnAir workstation needs

an individual TCP/IP address (refer to chapter 6.1, paragraph [MASTERSLAVE] ).

Dedicated Instant Bank It is possible to assign 20 takes from the database to individual bank keys by means of a specially denominated bank name. This bank has to be de-fined and activated in DMEDIA.INI by the following name:

[DMEDIA] INSTANTBANK = “BANKNAME” Example: [DMEDIA] INSTANTBANK = KEYPAD The bank KEYPAD.BNK of the example above is loaded into the on-air

workstation, and the first 20 takes are assigned to the hotkeys. The Instant Bank can be edited exactly as a normal bank and also can be used as such.

6.3 Faderstart Wiring

Connection from OnAir 2000/1000 mixing consoles to the DigiMedia on-air PC:

On-Air 2000 IF box DB9 (f), pin Signal DB9 (f), COM port

@ An-air WS, pin Fader 1 1 CTS 8 Fader 2 2 DSR 6 Fader 3 3 DCD 1 Fader 4 4 RI 9 Monitor PFL 5 DTR 4 The supply voltage is taken from one of the four CTRL connectors at the

rear of the OnAir 2000 or OnAir 1000. The 9-pin connector of the interface box is directly fed to the COMx port

of the on-air workstation. Please note that the COM port is activated only if correctly configured in

DMEDIA.INI. Console A/B input selection: Set the corresponding jumpers on the IF box. Default setting is A. Selec-

tion of A and B is possible as well. To increase the cable length you may use standard DB9 m/f extension ca-

bles. Maximum cable runs should not exceed 20 meters.

6.4 Link to OnAir Console via Monitora Protocol (MTA)

Function/Purpose It is possible to centrally control the Studer On-Air desk faders by the DigiMedia System via one single serial interface. An external hardware in-terface unit becomes obsolete.

Practical Operating Modes, Display on the Console Control via Monitora protocol allows several new operating modes for the

fader handling and the flow of the DigiMedia system’s playout function. The faders can electrically be opened to a predefined value without moving

the fader knob to the corresponding mechanical position. Usually, this po-sition is 0 dB. If communication between console and on-air workstation is established, a graphical fader representation with the electrically set posi-tion is displayed in the respective channel strip. Also refer to the Studer OnAir console operating instructions (OnAir 1000: chapter 9.3; OnAir 2000: chapter 10.3, OnAir3000 chapter 7.4.12)

Operation Basics The user re-establishes manual operation when he moves the fader knob

over the displayed marker. Since normally small deviations have to be con-sidered, the take-over threshold of the set position may slightly differ from the exact 0 dB value. So maybe you have to pull the fader knob a little be-low the 0 dB marker in order to bring it under manual control. This blur value can be calibrated if desired, refer to “Customer Code” in the Studer OnAir console operating instructions (OnAir1000: chapter 11.2.11; On-Air2000: chapter 12.2.12).

Configuration The correct configuration and all possible settings are documented in detail in the next chapter.

Physical Connection Link For short linking distances up to 5 m a direct RS232 cable (m-f, wired 1:1)

may be used. For longer transmission distances and in sensitive EMF envi-ronment please use RS422 transmission. The consoles allow both modes. The on-air PC, however, must be equipped with an additional RS232/422 interface kit (available from Studer, order no. 1.996.005.00).

Installation details can be found in DOC-106 6.4.1 Configuration of the Monitora Protocol (MTA)

Besides the fader status being fed to the PC the user now has access to extended control functions from the PC to the console. All faders may be controlled (fader level to pre-programmed values, up/down and ramp speed) as individual events in a playlist sequence.

Preliminary Info: Studer OnAir console. DigiMedia requires the MTA.EXE driver. Configuration On the OnAir console, 3 (or 4) DigiMedia input channels must have a sub-

sequent numbering. They have to be labelled DIGI 1, DIGI 2, DIGI 3 (and DIGI 4, if required). This is mandatory for the driver MTA.EXE driver to correctly select the channels.

OnAir 2000 Settings • In the menu SYSTEM CONFIGURATION AUTOMATION (Chan-

nels controlled by Automation) all channels to be used must be marked via the central touch-screen. This applies not only for DIGI 1....DIGI 4 but also for all others to be controlled from the playlist entries.

• In order to enabling the DigiMedia workstation to synchronize the internal console clock every hour, check whether the following setting has been performed correctly:

Mixer Setup System Config. Time & Date Format Time Sync = AUTOMATION

DigiMedia Configuration DMEDIA.INI on the Server (\dmedia\config\dmedia.ini) [DRIVERS] MTA=1 ; Driver for serial control to be activated [DMEDIA] DIGIFADER=x ; first DigiMedia fader (all three/four DigiMedia faders must be located

side by side). This is also the numbering on the console for the lowest number (channels DIGI 1.... DIGI 3) displayed on the DigiMedia screen. It is the same as at [DIGI] FADER = x. In this way the absolute fader number will be calculated.

EXTERNALDEVICE= ; in case you use the wording CONTROL, you have to enter this label also in the field “Artist” (see example below)

MIXERNAME=MTA ; Name of the mixer driver ;FADERPORT=COM2 ; Disable this entry! Faderstart control now runs via the Monitora port [MTA] PORT=COM2 ; Assignment of the COM port on the on-air workstation. FADETIME0 = 100 ; Additional Parameter: FADETIMEx = y, x = 0 .. 9, y = FadeTime in

40 ms steps. Assignment of the 10 predefined ramps in the library mask, field: ”FadeIn” 0...9

For controlling other channles than DIGI1...4 use the Options – Control window; there you will find the channel switching events entered previ-ously. Please not that a channel can only be set as an attenuation value, i.e. no ”ON” or ”OFF” status.

• By setting the field Track/Ext. To “0” you open the fader electrically to 0 dB.

• By setting it to “–65” you close it completely. Any settings between 0 and –65 are possible.

Note: The DigiMedia channels (DIGI 1...4) must not be addressed directly with

this method, since this would lead to confusing the system. Library Entries Artist = CONTROL Title = your title (any name possible) Type = Matching type within all unused types for scheduling, e.g. ”X” FadeIn = no entry = no fade = direct switching to the defined level. = 0...9 stands for predefined ramps 0 .. 9 Id = Label of the channel on the console screen (e.g. INP 7A); DIGI 1, DIGI 2, DIGI 3, DIGI 4 are reserved for DigiMedia. Track/Ext. = define the level here; 0 = fully open; –65 = switched off Device = MTA AutoFaderActivate Function In order that the “Fader users” among all DigiMedia users may work with

the implemented Monitora protocol as before, the software has been modi-fied to fulfill this task. The channels will be closed at the end of a take in order to start the following one with a single stroke of the ON-button.
