+What is a digipak ?

A digipak is a method of CD packaging, which includes 4 or 6

panels with artwork or photos on them. The digipak became

popular in the early 2000s. Digipaks are usually used on

special edition albums, such as anniversary editions and

deluxe editions.

+Front Panel

The front panel of the digipak usually includes a main photo of

the artist or band which references to Andrew Goodwin’s theory

of “star image” . However, the front cover can usually include

artwork that resembles something to the band. The front panel

will also include the name of the band and the title of the

album. The name of the artist or band tends to be bigger than

the album title, which is usually located at the top of the album

cover. The name of the artist or band is usually a bigger size

because this is the albums selling point. The font of the title

tends to go with the theme of the album, which is usually

located at the bottom of the album cover.

+Inside Panels

The inside panels are more subtle than the front and back of

the digipak. The inside of the digipak usually includes a photo

of the artist or band and could also include artwork that goes

with the theme of the album. Sometimes a photo can be spread

across numerous panels to create a large photo of the artist,

which once again links into Andrew Goodwins theory of “star

image”. The inside panels can also include information about

the artist, personal messages and lyrics.

+Back Panel

The back panel is the panel which includes the most information.

It includes such information like the barcode, track list and

copyright information. The copyright information is usually located

at the bottom of the album. The information is usually in small

writing so that it does not distract people and interfere with the

design of the album. The colour of the copyright information also

stands out against the background colour. This means the

information is readable if it necessary or desired.
