Digital Citizenship

Got Character?

Page 2: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

REMEMBER?Our last character lesson focused on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his character. He was a man of peace who chose his words wisely to help bring about peace and equality to our nation. He did not use bad words, ugly words, or words of hate.

Would you say that Dr. King was a good citizen?

Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen.

Let’s talk about DIGITAL

citizenship…

How is DIGITAL citizenship like regular

citizenship?

Let’s talk about… citizenship. To be a good citizen, we act in ways that are responsible. We make good choices, say and do nice things. We are someone people can count on. People who are good citizens usually have nice things being said about them.

Take one minute to discuss.

Thanks for playing along!

Let’s talk!

Have you ever said something you regretted or wished you hadn’t said?

Have you ever hurt someone’s feelings?

Have your feelings ever been hurt?

Page 8: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

Saying things that hurt someone is definitely not nice.

Sometimes hurtful things are said in a text message, on a Facebook post, or some other place.

When we are hurtful in this way, we are really hurting our digital citizenship.

Be careful, your digital footprints are walking through the mud!! YUCK!

Page 9: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

What about pictures?

What about memes?

What about videos?

Can videos and pictures be just as

mean and hurtful as words????

This is a myth, buster! Its easy to think if we delete something it goes away forever.

Pictures and words sent on any electronic device never ever truly go away.

Page 13: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

What should you do if someone sends

something hurtful or inappropriate to you.. or

about you?

Page 14: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

1. Do not delete until an adult has seen it.2. Report it IMMEDIATELY.3. Show the adult what was sent to you so the proper action can be taken.

What should I do if something offensive is sent to me?

Page 17: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

How old?How old does a person have to

be to have a social media

account?

This includes Facebook,

Instagram, and other similar

programs.

Page 18: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

A person must be 13 years old to hold a social media account.

Page 19: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

So, if you are not 13 years old, you are not legally allowed to have such

accounts.

Page 20: Digital Citizenship. Activity: Take two minutes to discuss how you can tell if someone is a good citizen

around.

Do you ever lie to people online?

How do you treat people online? Why is it easier to criticize

someone over the internet?
