Term 1 Goals:

1. To continue to help teachers overcome concerns and roadblocks in relation to ICT skills and e-portfolios

2. To increase teachers confidence in using tools and applications enhance students ICT skills

3. To develop and initiate an e-portfolio format that is generic and easy to use

4. Run Senior ICT Specialist sessions

How will this happen?

• Each teacher will use powerpoint for their e-portfolio as this is a programme that everyone is familiar with and also due to problems with unreliable broadband coverage.

• Teachers to have two sessions with Facilitator to discuss and formulate goals and set up e-portfolios

• Each syndicate will set an ICT goal as part of their team/self appraisal

• Junior School - run buddy class ICT tutor sessions with Lead Teacher/Student Peer tutors to support and encourage integration into classroom programme

• Run 11 ICT specialists sessions per term (x1 class per term)

Digital CitizenshipGoal:• To discuss/develop and implement digital citizenship flowchart that will be integrated into learning

programmes.

Criteria:• What is a digital citizen?• Who does it effect?• How is it relevant to our learning environments?• Defining the “nine elements of digital citizenship”• Discuss four main areas of digital citizenship

Next Steps:• Implement into unit plans as part of ICT component – copy to be attached to each unit master• Include at least one area of DC in learning intention and success criteria for inquiry and integrated units• Use alongside cyber safety lessons in Senior ICT specialist class• A copy of flowchart has been uploaded onto school website• Flowchart has been discussed with BOT with positive and supportive feedback• Copy of Flowchart has been added to school website

E-PortfoliosE-portfolios:• Discussed in staff meeting: e-portfolios will be used to reflect on teacher learning for the classroom. This reflection may be

looking at ICT or Literacy, both schoolwide professional development focuses for 2011.• Each teacher has an appraisal goal for each of these developments making their e-portfolios a living document (see ICT Goal

slides 3-5).• It was decided to use PowerPoint as a starting point as this is a programme that the staff have used before and are comfortable

with. (Broadband coverage does not allow more than 2-3 people on internet at a time as it slows down considerably)• Liz has had a session with each staff member explaining and setting up templates. Next staff meeting will discuss expectations

of what will go in portfolios eg Literacy and Nump - which are our school wide focuses for this year.• Each class has a class blog which they will eventually link to their e-portfolios to show examples of learning. • Time has been set aside at the beginning of each staff meeting for reflection time, sharing of successes/concerns and

guidance/professional development in the use of appropriate tools.

Concerns:• Time limitations• Fear of “big brother”• How personal should one get in an e-portfolio• How do you put supporting evidence in• What do we put in?/Who can teach me how?

Successes:• Teachers are beginning to feel more comfortable about sharing their thoughts and reflections.• One staff member has stated that she can see a progression in her knowledge and confidence since the beginning of the year.

• Each teacher is beginning to show more confidence in using the ICT suite with their class more regularly either with peer tutors or on their own to upskill themselves/students on useful tools/applications eg comic life, e-books, art-rage, moviemaker to use alongside their inquiry topics - see evidence section below for link

Mini ConferencePresentation Subject:• MovieMaker

Blurb:• An introduction to making movies using video footage and photos. This is a great programme for all age

groups. We will look at using different effects, slide transitions, editing video footage, creating a storyboard of photos, importing audio and recording student voice.

Reflections:• Yay! No technical issues!!• Very different to teaching children.• A little nerve racking but I enjoyed interacting with the participants. • The feedback I received was positive.• Participants seemed to be appreciative of the handouts and examples

Next Steps:• It was a lot of information for participants to take in – needs to be hands on with a longer timeframe.

Digital Citizenship Focus: Learning Strategies

Lead Teacher Purpose:• To team teach with class teacher to support, scaffold and enhance their powerpoint animation skills to create effective and interactive e-books• Peer tutors (year 5/6 students) to work alongside students• As sessions progress, lead teacher to begin to take a back seat and support teacher through teaching sequences• Explain to teacher teaching sequences/goals before each session

Student Purpose:• The children will create an e-book to demonstrate and share their learning throughout this inquiry.

Students will use:• Powerpoint animation toolbar• clipart and text to explain their understanding of Keeping Ourselves Safe in everyday contexts

Technical Skills to be developedI am learning how to • Use the mouse• Save my work using the purple disk symbol • Insert pictures into my page• Use the animation buttons to animate my picture• Explain to a partner how to animate a picture

I am learning how to• Use text, animation and pictures, to create an interesting published piece of work to share my learning/findings with others.• Ask questions and use a range of information sources to find information

Learning Sequence: (So far…)• Set up cover and contents page for e book• Insert photos and pictures• Animate pictures to match up with supporting text• Record voice over• Present to class/parents

Feedback:Classroom teacher has commented on the creation of a rich, positive and relaxed learning environment especially in relation to interaction between students and peer tutors during these sessions. Because of the 1:1 ratio, student skills have been enhanced.

Digital Citizenship Focus: “Etiquette” and “Safety”

Duration:• 4 class rotation – 1 class per term – x1 weekly sessions

Lead Teacher Purpose:• CyberSafety – What is it?• To teach students tools/applications that they can utilise during inquiry and integrated unit studies

Student Purpose:Students will:• Using Digital Citizenship “Etiquette” and “Safety” focuses students will discuss cyber safety and how it relates to their everyday life• create a piece of artwork in ArtRage – mammal• animate the mammal demonstrating its characteristics, behaviours, special features and life cycle

Application/Programme:• Powerpoint animation• ArtRage

Technical Skills to be developedI am learning how to • Scan an original piece of artwork to recreate in ArtRage• Use powerpoint animation to demonstrate the physical features etc of mammals• be a responsible digital citizen by being aware of my safety and the safety of others when using the world wide web• Create a piece of original artwork using ArtRage• Use powerpoint animation to create an animated mammal

Learning Sequence: (So far…)• Session One: cyber safety – what is it?• Session 2/3: create an original piece of artwork, scan onto file to trace/create in ArtRage• Sessions 4-9: create artwork using ArtRage• Session 10/11:present piece of ArtRage – original/ArtRage comparisons on a poster

Next Step:• Student will run an ArtRage training session /Present posters at Parent night 17th May
