Students will understand that:

Students will recognize what Cyberbullying is.Students will evaluate whether they are susceptible to Cyberbullying.Related Misconceptions:I can always delete my post and pictures. Once you have posted on the internet it is very rare that someone has not already saved the information to use in the future especially if it was negative in any way.

I can be whoever I want online, it doesnt hurt anyone. Students often do not realize that the comments they say online have lasting effects to people on the other side of the computer.

I have a private profile, so Im fine. Even if your profile is private your friends can take content you have posted and put it other places online. Sometimes your friends can be your worst enemy.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge

Students will know:

Vocabulary related to internet, social media, Cyberbullying, derogatory. Current statistics about Cyberbullying.

Skills

Students will be able to: Make good choices about social media usage. Help themselves and others if they are part of a Cyberbullying incident. Compare their Cyberbullying experience with youth in the same age range.

Stage 2 - Evidence

Performance Task(s)

Students will: Answer questions about their social media usage. View statistics of Cyberbullying for youth. Answer questions about Cyberbullying statistics.

Watch a video clip about Cyberbullying and the effects it can have. Discuss what they could change about their online social media profiles to be safer and less susceptible to Cyberbullying.

Other Evidence(e.g. tests, quizzes, work samples, observations)

Oral DiscussionHandout with statistics questions and students answered circlesFollow-up with counselors, if needed.

Student Self-Assessment and Reflection

Students will reflect on their behaviors and the behaviors of their friends throughout the lesson. They will evaluate their encounters with Cyberbullying and discuss ways to improve and overall eliminate Cyberbullying.

UbD Stage 3 Plan Learning ExperiencesStage 3: Plan Learning Experiences

Students will discuss what they think contributes Cyberbullying and how they could prevent it. Students will view surprising statistics based on student and parent Cyberbullying facts. Students will see the long term impact of Cyberbullying and see that it can lead to death and can have very serious consequences. Students will rethink their online activities, evaluate what they could do differently, and plan changes that they could improve. Will also send presentation out to parents because they need to be aware of Cyberbullying and that they are an integral part in putting an end to it.
