TCC DIGITAL COURT REPORTING PROGRAM:TCC’s MILT 5064 Digital Court Reporting training program is a formal, instructor-led course of study designed to instruct trainees in the skills required for success as a Certified Digital Reporter.
Training covers:• Court and deposition procedures and practices• Audio and video equipment and technologies• Transcription overview
Additionally, the program will assist in nationwide employment placement through Veteran Reporters, Inc. and their partners
APPRENTICESHIP OPTION:US Veterans who successfully graduate from the Digital Court Reporter training program and who choose employment with Veteran Reporters, Inc. will be enrolled in the two-year PAID Court Reporting Registered Apprenticeship Program, during which time they will work in actual courtrooms for hearings, trials, and depositions at law offices, and other legal proceedings.
How is the Program Taught?The Digital Court Reporting Program takes an on site, coach/mentoring and hands-on approach to instruction, with both in class instruction and
on-site experience in area courtrooms. Instructors are experienced teachers and court reporters with at least five years of on-the-job experience with trial technologies, court proceedings and depositions.
THREE INSTRUCTION AREAS:
• Class Instruction Module: Covers topics relating to court and deposition proceedings, etiquette, legal terminology, descriptions of services, basic computer skills, writing, note-taking, office and notary skills.
• Audio/Video Lab: Covers topics relating to audio/video hardware and software; computer configuration, sound, wire and video issues; file conversion, File Transfer Protocol, check and test equipment, inventory control, mixers, adapters, and back-up recorders.
• Court and Deposition Practicum: Covers hands-on audio setup for courtroom reporting and deposition, as well as acoustic and interference issues, courtroom etiquette, policies and procedures and depositions.
PROGRAM PREREQUISITES:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Basic office skills, computer, and keyboarding ability
• No previous experience in trial software and hardware is required
