Special School/PRU Network: Developing DCF Data & Computational Thinking Element

Building on our previous work with the DCF in relation to the Citizenship strands, we aim to create a network of teachers to support the development of age appropriate cyclical data and computational learning resources specifically designed for students with additional learning needs.

Leading the Primary Digital Curriculum: Engaging and Enabling

This programme is designed to build upon the Digital Leadership programmes delivered by Darran Park Primary and Cadoxton Primary in 2017/2018. The programme will support school middle and senior leaders to continue to develop digital learning in their settings.

School leaders will benefit from working in a collaborative environment to enhance the development of digital learning. They will review current practice as well as considering an evidence base from current and relevant research. Participants will be required to report the impact of the development activity in the context of their school.

It is assumed that schools attending will be planning the next steps to develop whole-school approaches for digital learning.

Leading Primary Digital Learning: Creating the Climate

This programme will support school middle and senior leaders to begin the development of digital learning across the curriculum and will explicitly support the development of digital competence in schools.

School leaders will benefit from working in a collaborative environment to establish a vision, plan effective strategies and will be supported through inter-sessional tasks. They will review current practice as well as considering an evidence base from current and relevant research. Participants will be required to report the impact of the development activity in the context of their school. It is assumed that schools attending will be beginning to develop whole-school approaches for digital learning.

DCF: Computational Thinking – Problem Solving and Modelling

The programme will enable practitioners to reflect on their current practice and collaborate in the development of learning and teaching experiences in the Problem Solving and Modelling element of the Digital Competence Framework.

Practitioners will be supported to develop their understanding of the element and how it can be developed in a variety of subjects across the curriculum. Through practical activities, good practice exemplars and activity development practitioners will explore how to develop computational thinking across the primary phase. Participants will contribute to an online collaborative group; facilitating the sharing of ideas and access to an online toolkit that will support practical examples of computational thinking.

DCF: Data and Information Literacy

This programme will enable schools to develop learning and teaching experiences in the Data and Information Literacy element of the Digital Competence Framework (DCF). The programme will support practitioners in developing their understanding of databases and spreadsheets and how they can be used to develop digital competence across the curriculum.

Practitioners will explore the Data and Information Literacy element of the DCF and how it can be developed through data-rich task development. Through practical examples, use of a range of digital tools and collaborative working practitioners will have opportunities to integrate digital learning across the curriculum.

Central South Consortium

Primary Digital Network Meeting

Network meetings provide an opportunity to:

» Focus on effective practice with sessions from practitioners from within and outside of the region

» Discuss and develop strategies to address national priorities

» Develop an understanding of the four purposes and pedagogical principles outlined in the Curriculum for Wales

» Discuss priorities for development » Develop rigorous and effective self-evaluation and

improvement planning » Engage with evidence-based practice to impact on

outcomes for all pupils » Network with other practitioners

Practitioners will have opportunities to develop their role as well as keeping up to date with the Curriculum for Wales. Collaborative working and sharing effective practice will drive the network to impact on pupil outcomes within their settings.

DCF: Developing Rich Tasks through Producing and Collaborating

The programme will enable practitioners to reflect on their current practice and collaborate in the development of learning and teaching experiences in the Producing and Collaborating strands of the Digital Competence Framework.

Practitioners will be supported to develop their understanding of digital competence, communication and collaboration through rich task development. They will explore and share strategies for using digital tools to develop innovation, collaboration and enriched tasks. The programme will give practitioners an opportunity to develop plans and activities, reflect on practice, and engage in an online group sharing resources and ideas.

Stay Safe Online – Developing a Whole School Approach to Online Safety

This programme will use the 360 Safe Cymru tool to support practitioners in developing the policies, processes and practice they need to enable them to reach the standard required to attain the Online Safety Mark. Practitioners will reflect on their current practice and plan for their school’s development.

‘Schools, through their online safety policy and practice, need to ensure that they meet their

statutory obligations to ensure that children and young people are safe and are protected from

potential harm, both within and outside school.’
