ABOUT THIS MANUALœ Most procedures and examples given in this manual are made assuming the use of the

Windows 98 operating system. In the Macintosh environment, the menu names and on-screendisplays may be different; however, the general operating procedure will not change. If you areusing a Macintosh, it is not necessary to enter the file extension when typing a filename. Otherprocedures and notes particular to the Macintosh environment are indicated when necessary.

œ This manual is designed for users with the following computer skills:œ Knowledge of basic computer operationsœ Knowledge of basic mouse operationsœ Knowledge of how to open, close, move, minimize and maximize windowsœ Knowledge of how to move from a folder to another folder

Detailed information about the operations listed above can be found in the printed or on-linemanuals accompanying the computer or operating system software.

INTRODUCTION TO THE SOFTWAREYou will find the following program in the Digital Disk Camera Software Pack CD-ROM.

œ Sanyo Utility Software (Windows 98/98 SE/Me/2000, Macintosh): This program is used totransfer still image (JPEG or TIFF format), video clip (QT format), and audio (WAVE format)data between your computer and camera.œ You can download images, video clips, and audio recordings from your camera to your

computer.œ You can also upload images from your computer to your camera. They can then be viewed

on your camera liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor. Or, you can connect a television to yourcamera AV OUT (sound and image output) terminal and play back the images on yourtelevision screen.

œ You can create a QuickTime movie using still images files and video clips files saved on yourcomputer.

Features of the two interfacesYour camera is equipped with both the IEEE1394 and USB interfaces for connecting to personalcomputers. These interfaces boast a large number of features, some of which are given below.

IEEE1394 interfaceWhen connecting your camera and computer using the IEEE1394 interface, the iD PHOTO diskdrive on the camera is recognized by your computer just as if it was an external drive. This allowsyou to open files in the camera directly with applications on your computer without first having todownload them to the computer. This greatly reduces the time required to download and viewfiles. Also, since files can be opened directly from your camera, there is no need to waste harddisk space in your computer. Furthermore, copying files to the computer hard drive is performedjust as you would copy files from an external hard drive.

USB interfaceWhen connecting your camera and computer using the USB interface, you can use theCommunicator application included with the Sanyo Utility Software to download files from yourcamera to your computer. You can also use Communicator to control your camera and captureimages remotely from your computer.

NOTE

œ If you have problems mounting the camera, try connecting it to a different port on the front orrear side of your computer or try connecting it using a hub.

œ Do not connect two cameras to one computer at the same time.

Cautions when using the iD PHOTO disk driveœ Do not make changes to files or folders inside the camera. The camera may then become

unable to recognize those files or folders.

œ Do not edit files inside the camera. If you wish to edit files, copy them to your computer harddisk first.

œ When the iD PHOTO disk drive is mounted using the IEEE1394 interface, do not connect ordisconnect any other IEEE1394 devices. Doing so may damage data on the iD PHOTO diskdrive.

œ Do not store executable file, text files, or the like on the iD PHOTO disk. The iD formatstandards only recommend the storage of still images, video clips, and audio files. If files notrecommended are stored on the iD PHOTO disk, not only may it adversely affect the operationof the camera, but it may also cause those files to be lost, the reduction in performance of yourcomputer when connected, or other problems.

œ When connecting your camera and computer using the IEEE1394 interface, be sure to installB’s CLiP (for Windows) or B’sCrew FW (for Macintosh) from BHA Corporation (see page 10). Ifyour camera is connected to a computer running Windows without B’s CLiP installed, thestandard Windows UDF file system will try to access the iD PHOTO disk, but its operationcannot be guaranteed. If your camera is connected to a Macintosh computer without theB’sCrew FW installed, the iD PHOTO disk cannot be accessed.

œ Only format the iD PHOTO disk using your camera. If the disk is formatted using a computer, the disk may stop recording video clips during shooting, stop playing back video clipstemporarily, and its operation cannot be guaranteed.

œ If you repeatedly store and erase files on the same iD PHOTO disk, the data stored on the diskwill become more and more fragmented. If the data is extremely fragmented, the time requiredto save or playback files will become drastically longer, the recording of video clips may stopduring shooting, or the playback of video clips may stop temporarily. If this occurs, save alldata on the disk to your computer and reformat the disk using your camera. This may restorethe original performance of the disk.

œ When the iD PHOTO disk is formatted, all the data on the disk is erased. Before formatting thedisk, be sure to save all necessary data onto your computer beforehand.

DOWNLOADING DATA (SAVING DATA)The two methods for downloading data from your camera to your computer when connecting witha USB interface cable are given below.

œ You can check the data in the thumbnail display in the Download Window and then downloadthe data as desired. This is the normal download method. This method allows you to firstpreview the image, video clip, and audio recordings before you select the ones you want todownload.

œ You can use the Quick Download function. This function allows you to specify the range of filesdesired and save them to your computer without displaying them in the Download Window. This method requires less time than the normal method.

When your camera and computer are connected with an IEEE1394 interface cable, it is notnecessary to use Communicator for downloading. You can copy data to your computer hard diskusing File Manager (see page 47).

NOTE

œ The images in your camera and thedisplayed thumbnails may have differentnumbers. When you capture images withyour camera they are assigned a numberthat is permanent. Therefore, once theyare assigned, they will not change even ifsome images are erased. However, whenviewing the image thumbnails on yourcomputer, each image is assigned asequential number (1, 2, 3,...) as they aredownloaded irrelevant to image numberassigned by your camera.

œ When using Communicator, the stillimages of a sequential shot are simplytreated as different still images andassigned numbers along with other stillimages.

Increasing the resolution of images (Agfa PhotoGenie)Using the Agfa PhotoGenie, you can increase the resolution of an image captured on your camerawith a resolution of 1360 x 1024 pixels to a resolution of 1700 x 1280 pixels (2,200,000 pixels). You can also increase images with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels to a resolution of 1280 x 960pixels and images with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels to a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. You canalso use it to remove the pixelation and artifacts created by the JPEG compression process. Donot save data that you have edited to your camera.

The two PhotoGenie modesThe are two modes available when using PhotoGenie. They are introduced below.

Super Resolution: Use this mode to increase the resolution of the high-resolution images youcapture with your camera. Using the PhotoGenie Image Enhancement, the lines and the edges are reconstructed, improving the image quality. Also, any color fringe at the image edges will be fixed. Using this mode, you can also increase images with a resolution of 1360 x 1024 pixels to aresolution of 1700 x 1280 pixels and images with a resolution of 1024 x768 pixels to a resolution of 1280 x 960 pixels.

JPEG Artifact Removal:Use this mode to remove the artifacts created by the JPEG compressionfrom an image captured with normal to high compression. As with theSuper Resolution mode, PhotoGenie Image Enhancement will reconstructthe lines and edges of the image and remove any color fringe at theedges. This mode is used in high compression mode and will not increasethe number of pixels.

NOTE

Before executing PhotoGenie

œ Use PhotoGenie on an image captured by your camera before it has been edited. If the imagehas been edited, the PhotoGenie process cannot be executed.

œ The PhotoGenie process can only be applied to an image once.
