Formative Assessment- Assessment FOR Learning
- Occurs frequently and in an ongoing manner during instruction, while students are still gaining knowledge and practicing skills
- To monitor students’ progress toward achieving the … expectations, so that teachers can provide … feedback to students, scaffold next steps, and differentiate instruction and assessment in response to student needs
- Not used to determine marks or grades
- YCDSB Guidelines and Procedures for the Implementation of Ministry Policy: Growing Success Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools, 2011.
Formative Assessment is also- Assessment AS Learning
- Used by students … to monitor their own progress towards achieving their learning goals, make adjustments in their learning approaches, reflect on their learning, and set individual goals
- YCDSB Guidelines and Procedures for the Implementation of Ministry Policy: Growing Success Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools, 2011.
