Digital Graphic Narrative Planning

Use this booklet to help structure your planning and collate your planning documents.

Considerations:

There are lots of things to consider in this project. Fill out each section in detail to show you have thought about each one. You should imagine that this is a live project, so considerations like cost, quantity and codes of practice must be thought about in that context rather than just as a college project.

Costs:In my production I will not be spending any money, the only thing I will be spending money on to travelling to get here to do my children’s book.

Available resources:What I will be using is computer, Photoshop and the internet. These are the sources I will be using to create my children’s book. I will be using Photoshop, to bring all my work together and put it in to a book, as well it is where I will be doing all my editing to my work for instance rota scoping and scanning in my drawings. The internet, where I will be getting my photos from to build up my book.College will be providing me with a computer and I will be using this to do my work on and it will be just colleges computers as, they have Photoshop which I need to be able to use

Quantity:The amount of work I want to publish I think I would go mainstream so quiet a few, as this is where I will be able reach a wide range of different target audience and have better circulation. Another reason why i would go mainstream is because, it is a simple book that has done well before; it’s a better way of getting your book known so, that is probably what I would aim for.

Audience and Target Market:For my audience I will be aiming for 5+ female; I will be aiming for this audience because my story is about someone becoming a princess. To attract a female audience I will need to use certain things for instance colours like pink and love as this portrays love.Another thing I will be aiming for adults as well, as this is who will be buying the book. They will be working class, so they are able to afford the book. What I will need to do to attract an older audience is make it look child friendly and use specific types of colours

Quality Factors:Not enjoying your projectDistractionsStressBeing here or not, big impact on how much you need to completeNot following the planning, can get you away on what you actually need to be doing. Can make you lose track what thing you need to done in a certain amount of time.Codes of Practice:Make sure there is no copyright in my work that someone can complain about and say it’s their work.

i) a title which identifies the work or (for incomplete works) the nature and agreed length and scope of the work; I show this in my development proforma, I have provide all my ideas on what I will be using in my children’s book to create ‘Princess and the Pea

ii) The responsibility for preparing the supporting materials (e.g. indexes, illustrations, content for accompanying websites or other ancillary material etc.), and for obtaining permissions and paying for the supporting materials in which the copyright is held by third parties;

The materials I will be using are all at college. At the start of the college we pay a fee of what materials we will be using for instance the computers

Resources:A successful project relies on good planning. Considering all the resources you will need for a project and then assessing which you already have and which you need will help ensure you are ready to start your project.

If there is a resource you don’t currently have, then consider how you are going to get it before you go in to production.

Resource:Do you have it? What do you need to do to get it?

Photoshop Yes  I need to come to college to be able to complete my work.

Apple Computer

Internet Yes

I can use this either at college or at home, but to get ahead of m self I can et some resources at home so, when I am at college the next day I don’t need to waste my time finding pictures

Production Schedule:

Delivering your project on time is vital. In order to do this, you need a solid plan of action. This will help you divide up your work in to manageable chunks to be tackled one at a time. It will also allow you to plan which tasks need to be done in which order. It will also allow you to track your progress each day. If you are falling behind, you will need to modify the way you work. If you work faster than expected, you can clearly see what the next steps you need to take are.

Each session is a half day of college.

Session 1: Tuesday

I will be collecting all my recourses of Google for instance the backgrounds like forest, castle, textures and a bed. I am collecting each of these, as I will have to rota scope them. When iv done that create a file for each page a putting the images in them so it gives a clear view of what is going where.Start on my first page. I will start doing the background first and if iv got time start doing my charters that will be viewing on this page. The first page is Penelope out side going in to the woods and I will be creating a wall showing the separation from the woods. To create the wall I will be using shapes and cover it with a texture to give it more depth. I will then develop this more and add in shadows

Add in text and make sure there is a specific space where it is going to be placedSession 2:Wednesday9:15- 10.25 In the morning spend the first lesson working on the page 2 and make sure everything is done for that.10:40- 11:50 start to develop on to my 2nd page, start on the background. I will be using the picture I found from Google and rotoscoping it and add in colours to create the scene. 2:05- 15:15 I will be starting to build on creating my main character Penelope for my first page. To create her I will be taking pictures my self of Lucy so I am able to get the outline and features of her. I will be having to rotoscoped her.If I haven’t finish doing my work on 2nd page carry on improving it or if I have go on to work on page 3

Session 3: Thursday

Carry on creating a wood on the 2nd page as they join together. I will then start to create my castle; to create this I will e using shapes.15:30 make another structure of Penelope so it match’s the scene.

Health and safety:Your health and safety and that of those around you is very important. Just like in industry, an accident could prevent you from working. Whilst we don’t work in a highly dangerous environment, there are still risks. Some are short term, such as trips and spillages whilst others, such as long term damage to eyesight or back problems, may affect you much later in life.

Consider the risks based on the activities you will be undertaking during the project. Explain how you could prevent them from happening.

Ensure you reference appropriate pieces of legislation, design to protect people at work.

Health and Safety Issue How can you prevent it?

Make sure there is no water around the electricalIf you are wanting to drink water make sure it is in a bottle so if it falls, it wont go everywhere.

Whirs could be all on the floorMake sure they are against the wall so they aren’t in people way as they could fall over them

Chairs could be stuck outMake sure they are tucked in to the tables because people could walk in to them.
