ABOUT SAE DUBAIThe opening of SAE institute in Dubai underlines the importance and potential of the audio and film industry in the region and in particular Dubai. With the demand for Creative Media Education on the rise with an industry that is set to expand considerably, it was deemed vital to establish an early presence and begin training students. These students are already filling position within Studio City, Media City and the industry at large.

Digital Journalism program is conducted at SAE Dubai campus boasting five studios, three edit suites, a host of film equipment, green screen room and no less than fifty Apple workstations just for starters.

THE IDEA THE VISION

THE AIM

“Backpack journalism is the craft of one properly trained professional using a hand-held digital camera to tell stories in a more immediate, more intimate fashion than is achievable using a larger team with camera person, sound person, correspondent and producer. We do it all and, most importantly, we make the pictures, which are the driving force of visual communication.

In the field, a backpack journalist shoots, gets sound, produces, reports, interviews. Once back from the field, we write the script. In some cases we even narrate the piece. Depending on circumstances, we either edit the piece on our own, or we sit side-by- side with an editor who may be working for the outlet for which we are on assignment. Backpack journalism is definitely and absolutely not “citizen journalism.”

Along the lines of existing SAE diploma and degree courses and in cooperation with JVC, we now offer one year highly practical diploma, that provides the students with necessary means both tangible and intangible, to be the backpack journalists of the future. This diploma, developed in collaboration with media professionals, will breed industry-ready graduates willing to undertake the new challenges of ever-changing journalism world.

The course combines high academic standards with plenty of practical, hands-on exercises and it equips students with proper professional journalism skills. It is designed for someone with a curious mind and appetite for the unexpected.

After one year of study the student will have a broad overview of new media and an ability to learn future technologies at a fast pace, enable him/her to efficiently implement knowledge and skills in the working environment.
