ABUSIVE PARENTS

The Turpin caseThe Turpin case recently attracted attention from around the world after Jordan Turpin and her siblings escaped

imprisonment by their abusive parents. The 13 siblings faced many difficulties

growing up and had experienced traumatizing situations. They were locked in their home for years, starved, malnourished and tied to their beds. Their parents, David and Louise Turpin, kept them imprisoned in what was later called a “house of horrors.”

Recently the eldest two of the Turpin siblings appeared on ABC’s 20/20, where they talked about overcoming their early traumas and working toward building a new life.

Jordan and Jennifer agreed that they wanted to give their children the best life they could, and their experiences would not hinder this ambition.

In 2018, the two sisters heard their mother saying that they would be traveling soon. Knowing that the children were too weak to make the journey, Jordan took photographic evidence of the children chained to the bed and called 911 for help.

The police took action and the parents were sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges of cruelty, torture, false imprisonment and 11 more felony counts, to which they pleaded guilty.

AMAZING PERFORMANCES

#KingRichardThe newly released “King Richard” film, starring Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father of tennis

players Venus and Serena, is garnering international praise.

The story shifts the perspective from the athletes to their father, and the family itself. The movie is not a biopic; it does not show the entire life of Richard Williams but the work he put into his daughters’ lives to make them the stars they are today.

The movie is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and stars Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Aunjanue Ellis and Jon Bernthal. It also highlighted Will Smith’s acting talent as he brilliantly molds himself into the character of Richard Williams. Many fans have talked about how the movie changed the way they looked at the family.

@jamelehill tweeted: “Watched King Richard tonight and what a spectacular movie. Amazing performances by Will Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya

Sidney and Demi Singleton. The Williams sisters story is one of the greatest in sports history. Bravo!”

@scobie said: “#KingRichard — What. A. Movie. Everything a great biopic should be. And a reminder that Will Smith is absolutely one of the best actors of our time.”

@danesha_ae6 talked about the beautiful depiction of the movie: “Just finished watching #KingRichard. It was really, really good, from beginning to end. And the way ‘Be Alive’ came in at the end of it just beautiful. S/O to the Williams family.”

@CinemaTweets1 wrote about Smith’s role in the movie: “Review: King Richard 4.5/5. In a role that catapults him to the top of this year’s Oscar race, Will Smith resurrects his career with ‘King Richard.’ Smith gives a nuanced look

at fatherhood backed by a powerhouse

of emotion. Without question, Smith’s best outing since ‘Ali’.”
