The Witherby Digital Publication Manager will save hours of indexing, checking and correcting the Notices and Circulars held on file and, with a powerful search engine utility together with cross-referencing of documents and clear on-screen indexing facilities, this software is essential for the shipping industry.

Can I merge these flag State Notices with other eBooks carried on board?The Witherby Digital eBook format is compatible with all eBooks published by bodies such as OCIMF, SIGTTO, INTERTANKO, ICS/ISF and the IMO. Therefore, whether you are using an OCIMF Reader, Seamanship Library or the IMO Bookshelf, you can import all your digital marine publications and Shipping Notices to one location, ensuring nothing is overlooked and everything is compliant. This makes it straightforward to add another IMO Code or Convention or an industry publication to your digital library.

How does it work/what do you get?Once purchased, you will receive your initial pack that contains a DVD with its corresponding licence code, the initial set-up software and the complete dataset.You will also receive a plaque to mount on the navigational bridge to indicate that the vessel meets the requirements for the carriage of flag State material and publications in electronic format.The software, which is identified by your licence code, will have to be unlocked to give you access to your purchased information. This can be easily completed across the internet or by automated email response.You will then receive update discs at 2-monthly intervals for the period of your subscription.Note/. Update discs are sent out in January, March, May, July, September and November each year.

Carriage of eBooks OnboardThe Maritime Safety Committee, at its 81st session (10 to 19 May 2006), and the Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its 53rd session (18 to 22 July 2005), gave guidance on the carriage of publications on board ships, and approved the IMO requirements on carriage of publications on board ships as follows: Publications may be carried in the form of electronic media such as CD-ROM in lieu of hard copies. Acceptable publications in electronic form should be those issued by IMO or an Administration or a body authorized by an Administration to ensure correctness of their contents and to safeguard against illegal copying. A medium could either contain a publication or as many publications as possible. In any case, the media should be treated in accordance with the document control procedures in the ship’s SMS including procedures for timely update. Ref: MSC-MEPC Circular

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ/. What about my back-up licences?A/. The single user version comes with one main and one back-up licence. On network

versions, the back-up is the disc itself.Q/. Can I transfer my user licences onboard ship?A/. On a Network installation (Intranet) there is the option for users to share access by

moving access from PC to PC for one week. The facility allows users to ‘borrow’ the software from one PC to another.

Q/. What if I change the PCs on my Fleet?A/. Witherby Digital should be notified during the planning process and we can ensure

that there are sufficient licences in place to cover the planned changeover period.

Q/. How do I ensure that I always have the latest version of the reader software? A/. The latest updates to the reader software are issued in March and September each

year. This includes the full catalogue of available eBooks and any changes required for the latest version of MS Windows and their appropriate service packs.

Q/. Is there an anniversary date for my subscription?A/. Subscriptions run from March to EOM February, therefore if you purchase

in November, you would be invoiced for 4 months to EOM February and then commence the new subscription year from the 1st March.

Q/. Could we get an approved contract that automatically updates publications? A/. Yes, you can select the list of publications you wish to keep up to date via automatic

update and invoice (ie auto-renew). For the remainder of publications not selected for auto-renew we will still notify you as a matter of course.
