Water vessel - Digital Raft

Abstract: Bangladesh is a riverine country. About 800 rivers including tributaries flow through thecountry constituting a waterway of total length around 24,140 km of rivers, streams and canals that together cover

about 7% of the country's surface. Most part of the country is linked by a complex network of waterways which reaches

its extensive size in the monsoon period. Out of 24,140 km. of rivers, streams and canals only about 5,968 km. is

navigable by mechanized vessels during monsoon period which shrinks to about 3,865km.During dry period. The IWT

sector carries over 50% of all arterial freight traffic and one quarter of all passenger traffic. Most of the country's land

is formed through silt brought by the rivers.

Existing System:

Ferries and launches are a major form of transportation in river side of Bangladesh. These vessels are notoriously

dangerous. They are often overloaded, and they continue to operate during rough weather. Many people die each

year in IWT accidents. Many different types of boats are also used for transportation. Most of them are still operating

their way of moving in river using old strategy like observing stars, in Moonlit night but they are totally blind in deep

fog. After visiting Mv Bengali, which has modern technology, we have found some problems.

All these equipments are setup separately, that’s why master can’t observe everything by standing in one

place.

Having all these equipment MV Bengali has occurred accident, once when this modern technical launch trying to take

“U Turn” then it’s back side smashed with a platf orm. That caused a huge demerge.

The main problem is

The Radar Can’t measure the distance of an obstacle from launch

Radar can’t give shape of an obstacle

Echo sounder can measure only depth downwards.

No such instrument which can find obstacle towards left, right, forward and backward.

Can’t give exact route

Speed in an specific position

Our Plan & Solutions:

After considering all these problems, if it’s possible to bring the equipment’s output in one display, it must be easier to operate thesevessels.

5. Beagle Bone Black / Raspberry Pi: Here this engine has several functionality-a. It will get the GPS info. From internet via Google API and show current position in Latitude and Longitude.

b. From this Latitude and longitude in will calculate the speed (Using an Algorithm) and show in a display by a Google

Map.

c. All the information’s of a specific Ship will be stored in its Local Db.

d. The local system can communicate with Main Controller/ Headquarter

e. By this One Master can ask request to nearest Ship or Helpline (Coast Guard).

f. Beagle Bone Black will read and operate all other equipment’s data.

g. Communication with headquarter.

h. Getting weather forecast.

i. Showing objects nearby and their distance (including their shape)

j. Sending alarm of hijacking to the headquarter.
