DSP or Digital Signal Processing, as the term suggests, is the processing
of signals by digital means. A signal in this context can mean a different
representation of the signals by a sequence of numbers or symbols and
the processing of these signals. DSP includes various sub fields like:
audio signal processing, speech signal processing, spectral estimation,
statistical signal processing, digital image processing, signal processing
for communications, biomedical signal processing etc.
