WAGO OVERVIEWTRANSFORMING AUTOMATION, INTERCONNECT AND INTERFACE TECHNOLOGYSince 1951, WAGO has been innovating technology that has revolutionized how connections work. From the pioneering CAGE CLAMP® spring pressure connection technology WAGO has grown into a global provider of an extensive range of Interconnect, Interface and Automation solutions. The Interconnect division forms a pillar of the company and introduced the the first rail-mounted terminal block family with spring pressure connection technology. Today the division‘s innovations include the 221 Series (LEVER-NUTS) lever operated splicing terminal, among many other quality products. In the 1990’s, WAGO added the Automation division, introducing the first fieldbus-independent modular I/O system to the market, known as the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM. The Automation division has grown in step with technological demand and now offers an extensive line of programmable fieldbus controllers, or the PFC Series. From electrical interconnections to automation, customers around the world count on the unconditional performance and reliability of WAGO products to ensure the safe, efficient operation of their systems every time.

WAGO continues striving to be an innovator in the business of connections, which is precisely why the WAGO digitalTAP™ has been developed. This package is designed to help you tap into plant floor data and digitize it, allowing you to be better connected to the processes within your plant.

While new machines are engineered to share information, machines manufactured even just a few years ago operate as self-contained entities. In other words, the majority of machines on your plant floor are fitted with sensors measuring temperature, levels, cycle times but were not designed to propagate this valuable data. So, how can manufacturers collect data from the different types of machines they have on their plant floor and transform it into information that enables them to visualize and optimize their operations in a way that’s both cost-effective and practical?

It’s called MTConnect. This is an open-source, royalty free standard that leverages proven internet protocols to transform data from manufacturing equipment into a standardized format. Essentially, it bridges the data harvested from machines to an application that then translates data into legible metrics with which a machine’s status and activity can be tracked and monitored remotely.

The Agent buffers the data from the Adapter and serves it to an application client in a standard XML schema or data dictionary that structures the information in a standardized format

The Adapter bridges signals from the plant floor equipment to the Agent using Simple Hierarchical Data Representation (SHDR) format

Secure your digital transformation project while keeping your costs down. A built-in firewall and VPN help protect your systems and eliminate the need for standalone network devices.

The onboard HTML 5 web server is not only used to configure the digitalTAP™, it enables operators to locally view real time machine parameters.

Two configurable Ethernet ports are offered on the PFC100 controller. Using them in a switched configuration enables daisy chain cabling eliminating the need for an additional Ethernet switch.

Leverage the proven design of WAGO’s industrial 750 series I/O with global certifications including cUL, IEC and ATEX.

The digitalTAP™ features the PFC100 controller with embedded MTConnect adapter and agent. Our 750 Series I/O modules enable users to connect existing sensors, stack lights, and operator buttons from your legacy machines to the digitalTAP™. Combined they transform these signals into a standardized digital format per the MTConnect standard.

SIMPLE TO CONFIGURESTRAIGHT FORWARD SETUP

Automatic Node Identification

No Programming Required

WAGO’s digitalTAP™ is simple and straight forward to setup. There is no special software needed and no programming is required. Just use your favorite web browser to log into the digitalTAP™ configuration tool. The application automatically scans the input modules and displays them for quick setup. Configuring data points is easy with menus and dropdowns that help you along the way.

Use any combination of digital and analog modules for your application. On power up, the digitalTAP™ automatically scans the I/O node for fast identification of the modules.

You can also connect up to four remote MODBUS devices to harvest sensor related information like flow meters.

You can name the data point to your unique application, and use the data model structure defined by MTConnect.

Analog scaling is made easy. You can use the raw information form the module or scale the data per the sensors’ engineered units.

User Defined Events & Conditions

The digitalTAP™ transforms your machines‘ signals into a standardized digital format based on the MTConnect standard that can be read by most any application

Easily develop your own events and conditions based on data point values and incorporate them into the MTConnect data streams. Create up to 32 localized events by comparing up to 4 different data points to enhance the digital fingerprint of your machine. Link active events to a digital output like pilot lights to help operators improve processes. Also create user defined Conditions that can help monitor your machine’s health.

The digitalTAP™ enables operators on the plant floor to monitor up to 18 real-time data points from the machines they are working with. The information can be viewed with a tablet, PC web browser or a smart TV monitor

SIMPLE TO INSTALLCONNECT TO EXISTING EQUIPMENT INDICATORSStart collecting data in three easy steps with the digitalTAP:

Determine what data you want to monitor from your machine. For example, stack lights, temperature sensors, motor currents, and tank levels can all provide valuable information about the machine.

Next, wire the existing or added sensors to the inputs on the digitalTAP™ node.

Configure the inputs, and then sit back and watch the digital information stream in.
