Remove and replace with brass paper clips.

Loosen the strings for photography. Post photography: replace the strings with cotton tape.

Level 1: Documents/letters in envelops

Remove contents and secure with brass paper clips.

Level 1: Individual loose photograph

Place in polyster L-sleeve.

Level 1: Acidic items and insect damage

Isolate in polyester L-sleeve or encapsulation. Newspaper cuttings: best not to put in polyester if possible for photography. Out of scope if necessary.

Condition Action Before AfterLevel 2:Enveloped sheets to be flattened

Under weights for several hours.

Level 2: Pamphlets

Remove rusty staples and stitch for photography.

Level 2: Mould Cleaning required.

Condition Action Before AfterLevel 2:Polyester wrapper

Measure and create a polyester cover if fragile.

Level 2: Inserts and foldouts

Remove if information is not accessible. Mechanical removal is preferable.

Photograph in situ in the studio before removing the object. House the object if necessary.

Level 2: Tears Mend if necessary.

Can be mechanical or involve moisture.

Level 2: Rolled items or persistent creasing (that cannot be uncurled with ease)

Weights and Iron for several hours.

Level 2:Disbinding

Disbind and house appropriately.

Level 2:Brittle & acidic items needing repair or polyester

Isolate in polyester L-sleeve or encapsulation.
