Buck-A-Block is a program where you come in monthly and get two strips of fabric & block instructions for $1. This year each month’s strips will make two blocks. It’s fun to see how different the two blocks look as you reverse the fabric placement. The finished quilt twin sized 67” x 93.”
This year the blocks use 2.5” Thangles and the finishing kit uses 2.0” Thangles and both are sold separately. We’ve also purchased fabric for finishing kits to match. Kits are $87.99 each. Again, they are limited.

BEGINNER CLASSES: Academy of Quilting 101 Teacher: Margaret Smith
This class is a thorough skill-building course in quilt
making using a curriculum from the book Quilter’s
Academy Vol. 1-Freshman Year (an excellent book!).
Beginner skills taught include sewing machine basics,
tools, working with fabric and cutting, and accurately
stitching and pressing. You work on a small wall
hanging to test your skill. Learn to quilt with confidence
& learn to calculate how many strips to cut for the blocks
in a throw quilt.

Academy of Quilting 102
Teacher: Margaret Smith
This class is for those who want to continue to build
their skills. You expand your knowledge of tools and
outfitting your sewing area. Next, you learn basic
skills to design blocks and plan quilts. Expanding
your piecing skills and accuracy will be covered.
Finally, learn the basics of choosing fabric collecting
and tips for pressing well.

Academy of Quilting 103
Teacher: Margaret Smith
Here's the final class from the Freshman Year and it covers more quilting terms & teaches how to
finish a quilt. Learn about adding borders, backing, quilting and binding. These are great skills for all
quilters.

This fun quilt uses only two fabrics. You’ll learn
quilting terminology, how to choose fabrics, basic
rotary cutting and piecing. By the end of the classes

Quilting Basics Sampler

The Quilting Basics Sampler is a
beginner friendly quilt. We will review
basic quilting techniques (pressing, rotary
cutting and sewing accurate ¼” seams).
You will learn how to quick piece half-
square triangles and flying geese units,
block construction, sashing, borders and
introduction to finishing techniques.

Join us and see what the fuss is with stripping!
Learn tips, get ideas, find out about tools. Each
month we feature a new Strip Club pattern
designed to use 2 ½" strips. We’ll give you a
presentation, a pattern, a little inspiration and a
good time! No need to RSVP. Just come as you

Quilts of Valor Sewing Quilts of Valor are quilts made to honor & comfort the wounded. One
of our projects is to take blocks from a Moda block challenge and
create quilts with them. We look forward to seeing all the quilts from
those blocks. Another way to serve is to work on your own projects.
We donate our quilts both locally and to Alaskans who are stationed
away from home. Check our the Quilts of Valor Foundation website at
www.qovf.org for more information.

CLASSES FOR KIDS!
KIDS: Rail Fence Quilt
Teacher: Arteria McCummings
This Rail Fence is the perfect quilt for kids and beginners.
Students learn how to tear and cut fabric strips (rotary
cutting is not taught in this class), sew strip sets to make
blocks, use a template and how to cut and lay out blocks
in a pattern. Lastly, they will learn to sew blocks together,
add a border and finish by birthing and tying their quilt.

KIDS: Roll It Up Pillowcase
Teacher: Arteria McCummings
A perfect class for beginners and fun for the more experience young sewer, the Roll It Up pillowcase
is fun and easy to create. This class covers sewing basics (threading machine, winding a bobbin,
cutting and sewing accurate seams). The kid friendly pillowcase uses the “burrito” method resulting
in a pillowcase with no exposed raw edges. It is easy to create with simple step-by-step photos to roll
your own pillowcase in a jiffy!

You can choose your size to make this basic, favorite,
beginning quilt. This quilt has large squares to show
off large prints you just can’t bring yourself to cut.

Abendessen Table Runner
Teacher: Arteria McCummings
Dress your holiday table with this beautiful Abendessen (German for
dinnertime) table runner. This table runner is perfect for learning to
make a Dresden Plate. You will learn three blade top options (straight,
peaked and curved). Straight and peaked blades are great for
beginners. More experienced quilters can challenge themselves with
the curved blades (advanced). Either straight, peaked or curved, your
holiday table will be admired by your dinner guest.

Have fun with fast, easy appliqué baby quilt; can also be used as a
wall hanging. Use traditional appliqué method or use your appliqué
stitch to quilt it. You can practice your bias binding, or not.

Animal Appliqué

Here’s a class to tame those animal appliqué patterns
designed by Toni Whitney. Let’s move step by step through
these appliqué projects that may have spooked you in the past.
I’ve got some tips and hints to make you a winner. We have
several kits available to make your project a success.

Appliqué Circle
Teacher: Fran Apland
The Appliqué Circle is dedicated to the art and enjoyment of
handwork. Each session gathers quilters of all skill levels to
practice techniques related to handwork—hand appliqué, freezer
paper appliqué, reverse appliqué, dimensional appliqué, broidery
perse, Hawaiian appliqué, embroidery, perfect stems/circles and
beadwork on fabric! Each session you share projects and ideas
with the circle and work on your latest project. So leave the
machine at home and pack your needle and thread for stitching sharing and socializing with like-
minded quilters.

Big Christmas Star

A great class for Beginner Plus students. Make one big star,
add borders and you are ready for Christmas. You don't have
to use Christmas fabrics, make one for autumn, or just to go
with your decor as an alternate, you may make this into a
Christmas Tree Skirt with just a few adjustments to the border.

This quilt is made from 2 ½ inch strips which are
sub cut into 2 ½ inch squares, 2 ½ x 4 ½
rectangles, and 2 ½ x 6 ½ rectangles. If you do
not have the time or patience to piece the border,
substitute a plain border instead.

This quick quilt uses one Jelly Role and one Charm Pack.
This quilt will also look great in batiks or you can make it
scrappy. This is fast and easy. If you’ve been wondering
what to do with those precuts this is a great way to use
them.

Make one to keep and one to give away. Use Terry’s method

show you how to customize our zippers to fit any bag. The bags
are a great way to use up leftovers or grab one of our kits. It’s
quick perfect for gifts.

Christmas Wreath

Decorate your home with a fabulous wreath this holiday season.
You will learn how to give your wreath dimension by
constructing the 3-D look with the Dresden straight-top-blade
and 3-D half-circle-top blade. Embellish your wreath with a
removable bow and enjoy it year after year. This would also
make a wonder gift for someone special.

Here's another great bag pattern from Atkinson Designs. It's a stylish
tote with lots of pockets, perfect for holding all your notions and

Cozy Sweater Mittens
Teacher: Carla Eisberg
Oops, did your favorite wool sweater get thrown in
the wash and then tossed in the dryer? Don’t fret,
you can turn that Barbie sized sweater into your new
favorite pair of mittens! Have fun pairing your
sweater with a contrasting fleece liner and voila, you
are now the fashionista! This is a fun, quick project
for Beginner Plus.

Crazy Patchwork Sweatshirt Jacket
Teacher: Margaret Smith
This quick sweatshirt jacket is an unlined jacket (using a
readymade sweatshirt) Blocks are created by stacking 9"
fabric squares. Cut the squares into "crazy quilt" style
pieces. Shuffle the colors around with Margaret’s help
and sew back together. Trim blocks to size; join blocks
together and cut out jacket (sweatshirt) pieces. Pattern
provided

Crazy Shortcut Quilts
Teacher: Mary Pomeroy
Learn how to make this very popular “quilt as you go” style quilt. It is
fun and easy to make, and you will have the opportunity to use the
decorative stitches on your sewing machine. You will not be able to
make just one – they are so easy and fun!

Fire & Ice
Teacher: Geri Wacker
You will start with 9 x 10 ½ rectangles in a stack of four. You will
make two cuts, swap pieces in the stack, sew the rectangle back
together, and square up the block. This pattern is for Advanced
Beginners but everyone will enjoy this quilt. Think outside the
box. If you do not like red, chose a different bright color to go with
the black/whites.

Multipurpose Cloth. Create your own design or follow a

This is is a great quilt for a beautiful, large print that

Kuspuk Apron

Join Mary and make her cute apron. She designed the pattern and
has both a Woman’s and Man’s version. The Alaskan Kuspuk Apron
was inspired by the summer kuspuk, a staple in the Alaska Native's
wardrobe. Take advantage of our new trims to make your apron
fancy!

Make yourself or a loved one a light fabric parka. Eskimo women make it in
bright prints and wear it over their fur parkas in the winter to protect the fur.
The pattern is designed so the flounce may be left off to make a boy's
parka or shorter summer parka. The garment slips over the head and may
have a front zipper although it is not needed, as it will slip over the head
without one.
Decorative braid or rickrack is used to trim the garment.

This is a fun, fast, easy project that gives the appearance of being really
difficult! The secret to making these interlocking pinwheels is the Twister
tool. All the triangles are eliminated and you simply take your 5” or 10”
squares and create a masterpiece!

Long Arm Quilting 101

Learn the basics of how to load your quilt and all the fun
options that are available to quilt your top with a longarm
quilting machine. This class allows you to rent a longarm
machine Stipple Yourself and substitutes for the required
class at Stipple Yourself.

Margo Handbag
Teacher: Arteria McCummings
The Margo handbag has a professional look with its secure zip top

innovative Dip-Down Zip-Top technique used makes inserting this
zipper super easy.

Paper piecing creates quilts that can look intimidating! Yet, by
following Judy Niemeyer's techniques for cutting and piecing you

project.

Piping Hot Hobo Bag

Curvy and stylish, this bag looks hard to make, but its straightforward
construction makes it easy and fun to create. The curved edge makes
attaching the piping easy. The piped edges and tassel trim on this bag
make a strong graphic statement. The clean profile has wide collapsible
sides. It has a slim line when closed but opens to reveal a roomier bag
to accommodate all your belongings.

The Professional Tote

The professional tote has pockets and compartments,
zippers (that are easy to insert in the tote). An awesome
travel bag. Even my lap top fits into it when I am on the
go. Come to class with all of the pieces pre cut and you
will be nearly finished with your bag at the end of the
class. Be sure to label your pieces as you pre cut.

This is a fun twist on a nine-patch block that is virtually
unrecognizable! I always wanted to do a classic red quilt
and I love the results. You can make yours any color or

Stack 'N Whack

Stack-n-Whack quilts will be the most fascinating quilts you will ever
make. You will learn how to stack and then cut your fabric to create
amazing kaleidoscope blocks. Each block is unique and is revealed to
you as you sew. After your first quilt, you may just find it addictive.

Strip Tubing Fun
Teacher: Arteria McCummings
Make fabulous quilts using the Strip Tubing technique! Strip tubing
uses two strips or strip sets (or a combination of both) to form a tube.
Using the Strip Tube Ruler (or a square-up ruler), the tube is cut to
make pieced half square triangles and/or striped quilt blocks. It is a fun
and fast way to make an eye-catching quilt.
