SPONSORED CONTENT PRINCIPAL’S CORNER — Shanna Crofton If you have attended one of the Brunswick High School musical events, then you know what I mean when I say they are truly exceptional. If you have not yet had the opportunity to join us for a concert, then I encourage you to attend one of the winter performances. Over a third of our students are involved in the BHS music program and it contin- ues to grow every year. On December 7th the students in the band pro- gram will be directed by Mr. Scarpone and will perform at 7:00pm in Crooker Theater. The winter choral performance, directed by Mrs. Albert, is scheduled for Thursday, December 21st at 7:00pm in Crook- er theater. Mr. Scarpone and Mrs. Albert do an incredible job of select- ing pieces from around the globe that challenge our students and cap- ture and hold the attention of the audience. We hope to see many members of the community alongside the families of our students in the audience. I promise that the performances will make your night and leave you wanting an encore. Brunswick H i g h School’s organic farm program, in its fifth year, expanded and offered paid internships to participating students, thanks to a grant from BCEF. Twenty-one stu- dents from across the BHS student body, including a core group of 8-12 students, worked throughout the summer to make the garden a success. This garden is organized and led by BHS English teacher Jon Riggle- man serves as a focus for many curriculum connections including art and health as pictured above. Archery trip by outing club The BHS Outing Club, under the leadership of Tom Stocker and Andrew McCullough, recently visited Lakeside Archery to learn the art skill of archery shooting. BrunsHS 6x19R 12-4 45792 Designed and published by Mr. Bones comes back to BHS Brian Pressley and Scheree Kirk along with Dave Watson, and Claude Bonang return Mr. Bones to BHS. One of the finest biology teachers in the long history of Brunswick High School, Claude Bonang, took an active role in the transfer of this skeleton, an object he has put much time and energy into dur- ing his tenure with us. Service Learning learns about carrot cost analysis Service Learning students recently visited commu- nity partner Seth Kroeck at Crystal Spring Farm to help pick carrots and witness the ease and speed of the nearby automatic carrot picker. Seth came into class afterwards and calculated harvest total costs by doing a cost analysis comparing human picked harvests to tractor driven harvests. Exchange Student Profile Le Bien comes to grade 11 at Brunswick High School from Ho Chi Minh City, Viet- nam. She lives with her parents and two younger sisters. She thinks studying abroad was a good choice. She hopes the experience will help her become more independent and improve her English language skills. Sharon Harvie, Foreign Exchange Student Pro- gram Coordinator UN Trip by Interact students BHS Interact Club sophomores Izzy Banks, Lila Solberg, and Jenna Roane recently visited New York City with other Interact club students from throughout Maine. While in NYC they had dinner at Times Square, saw the Empire State Building, Hard Rock Caf?’, took in a Broad- way show (Charlie and the Chocolate Facto- ry), and toured the United Nations build- ing. They would like to thank the Coastal Rotary for helping defray their travel expenses. Mid Coast Hospital Sponsors Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Anna Parker, Maddie Wayne and Grace Casey were part of the MCH team. They had the very special job of running the face painting table Mid Coast Hospital was a sponsor of the 2017 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in downtown Brunswick on Sunday, October 29. The event raised over $53,500 while celebrating 40 local survivors. "DINE IN" ON FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES DAY DECEMBER 3, 2017! Join Mrs. Selberg’s Food Science Classes and “Dine In”! Students will prepare a home cooked meal and have a family mealtime! • We ask families to make and eat a healthy din- ner together on December 3rd. “Dine” in with your family!
