Dinosaurs and Reptiles Ruled

Before the rise of humans and other mammals, dinosaurs and reptiles ruled the Earth. Despite being two different types of animals both dinosaurs and reptiles coexisted and ruled the land, sky, and water. Lets take a look at the animals that ruled!

On the Land

Lets not forget that dinosaurs lived from the Triassic until the Cretaceous Period. That was 165 million years! As we are aware dinosaur dominated the land of prehistoric Earth. Not only did dinosaurs rule but many types of reptiles also existed along dinosaurs on land.

Reptiles on Land

• While a majority on the animals on land were dinosaurs, some reptiles existed during this time. Many on land walked on 4 legs.

• Alligators and Crocodiles• Eryops

In the Water

• Despite the numerous dinosaurs that existed on land, there were no fully equipped marine dinosaurs. However, there were many reptiles that lived in the oceans and lakes during the Mesozoic era. These types of reptiles include.

Nothosaurus

Crocodiles and Alligators

In the Sky

While dinosaurs dominated land, we have learned that they didn’t swim well. Dinosaurs also could not fly. There is no type of flying dinosaur. Instead our friends the reptiles controlled the air. Some of these animals were large and some were small but the one thing they have in common is that they could fly over top of the dinosaurs!

In the Sky

Lets take a look of some of the flying reptiles are called the “Pterosaurs” we would have seen flying during the Mesozoic Period.

Overview

• Dinosaurs existed on land but rarely was found in the sky or in the water.

• Reptiles were not dinosaurs but existed at the same time.

• Reptiles were found in water, air and on land.• Many reptiles are mistakenly called dinosaurs.

We now know this is not true.
