2017 PRIEST ACCOUNTABLE REIMBURSEMENT REPORT FORM The 2017 Priest Accountable Reimbursement Report Form with the mileage rate of .535 cents, effective January 1, 2017 can be found in Addendum #3 of this communicator. The form is also available on the Diocesan website under Administration/Policy Manuals/Diocesan Policies/Administration and Finance/Forms & Resources. NEW COMBINED COLLECTION – JANUARY 14/15, 2017 All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will be taking up the 2017 “Mission Collection” on January 14/15, 2017. This new “Mission Collection” combines four previously separate collections into one and supports the following outreach ministries to the Universal Church: the Black & Indian Missions, Catholic Home Missions, the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa, and the Propagation of the Faith mission. Parish bookkeepers are advised to use the new Collection Counting Sheet (Addendum #4) and to divide unspecified Mission fund donations evenly between the four individual collections. Bookkeepers may then complete the Combined Collection Transmittal Form found in Addendum #5 to include with their payment to the Diocese. Please make checks out to “Diocese of Marquette-Mission Collection.” Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for an announcement that can be placed in your parish bulletins to promote this collection. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.

Applicants must complete the on-line application found at http://www.dioceseofmarquette.org/bbscholarshiplink and mail an Official Transcript and ACT/SAT scores (via postal mail) to: Bessette Scholarship Fund, Diocese of Marquette, 1004 Harbor Hills Drive, Marquette, MI 49855. Applications must be received no later than March 15, 2017. ANNUAL INVESTMENT POOL VIDEO CONFERENCE Please mark your calendars now to attend the Annual Investment Pool Video Conference. This year’s conference will be held on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 pm ET. Video conference services will be available via Zoom (more information on how to register will be emailed directly to parishes and schools). PARISH SECRETARY/BOOKKEEPER WORKSHOP 2017 The annual Parish Secretary/Bookkeeper Workshop has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 9th, 2017 – so mark your calendars now to attend. This year the workshop will be held at Northern Michigan University in the University Center. An email regarding on-line registration (using JotForm) will be sent to all parishes soon. We look forward to seeing you this spring! PARISH/SCHOOL FINANCE COUNCIL REPORTING REMINDERS
Detailed minutes should be kept to document all key decisions made by Parish/School Finance Councils. The minutes need to clearly indicate the Finance Council’s review and approval of periodic financial statements (balance sheet and income statement as well as budget to actual), check register, annual budget, pay rates, and major expenditures.
As an additional level of control over cash disbursements, it is recommended all Parish/School Finance Councils receive a detailed check register identifying all disbursement made since the last meeting. The listing should identify the check number, date, payee, and amount.
Questions or concerns regarding the above should be directed to Tim Thomas at [email protected] or (906) 227-9114. 403B CONTRIBUTION LIMITS FOR 2017 The maximum contribution per individual for 2017 is $18,000, unless the employee is aged 50 or older. Those over 50 years of age may allocate an additional "catch-up" contribution of $6,000 to their 403B account.

Terri Gadzinski NEW PLANNED GIVING WEBSITE Gift planning at your fingertips! Find out why your gift matters, download brochures on popular gift types, and more. Take a moment and visit our new website, place a link to it on your parish or school website, and help your supporters get their plans in motion. LEGACY OF FAITH GRANTS - NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FAITH FORMATION Programs for 2017-18. Applications are due April 1, 2017 for the grant period July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. Visit www.LegacyofFaith.net for more information. Online submissions preferred. CATHOLIC SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT: NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS Communications: How is your school doing? Experts agree: fund raising is really about ‘friend raising’ – and to nurture friendship, we must communicate with The Right Message! It is my goal to support and empower all Diocesan schools to meet (minimally) the following goals: 1) Produce biannual newsletters (if not currently generating an annual report this should be included in fall edition) and 2) conduct an annual appeal. Both are vital steps in a comprehensive communication plan necessary for sustaining our schools. Templates for these advancement tools will be forthcoming soon. For those already meeting the minimum, I hope you will consider saying ‘yes’ as we convene a panel training session to offer support to your colleagues! Additionally, move on to the next higher goal of distributing quarterly newsletters! Tools: Does your school have software designed to promote development efforts? One brand of software that Richard Burke (Senior Executive Consultant with Catholic Schools Management) highly recommends is Little Green Light – a cloud-based donor management software. This program provides excellent support to manage donors, volunteers, members, alumni, events, and fundraising campaigns. Visit littlegreenlight.com for more information, and check out techsoup.org (a nonprofit organization serving nonprofits) for discounted resources. Contact Renée Deroche at 906.227.9161 or [email protected] with any questions.
BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS NEW COMBINED COLLECTION All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will be taking up the 2017 “Mission Collection” This new collection combines four previously separate collections into one. The combined “Mission Collection” supports four different outreach ministries to the Universal Church, as listed below.

Black & Indian Missions The Black and Indian Mission Collection exists to help local African American and Native American diocesan communities throughout the United States spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to real and pressing needs. This collection advances causes important to native and African American Catholics. Catholic Home Missions “Home Missions” is the name for dioceses and parishes in the United States, including its territories and former territories, which cannot provide basic pastoral services to Catholics without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass and sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters and lay people. Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa While the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care. Many suffer due to high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa supports pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation in a continent often marked by division and tension. Propagation of the Faith The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,111 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances covering more than half the globe.
