Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On this second Sunday following Pentecost, we celebrate another essential part of our faith – the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. By the power of the Holy Spirit, at the words of the priest the bread and wine at Mass become “the Body and Blood, together with the Soul and Divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ. … Therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really and substantially contained” (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1374). “The only presence is the presence of the whole Christ.” In Holy Communion, “there is a person-to-person exchange, a coming of the one into the other. The living Lord gives Himself to me, enters into me, and invites me to surrender myself to Him, so that the Apostle’s words come true: ‘It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me’ (Galatians 2:20).” (From The Spirit of the Liturgy, Ignatius Press, San Francisco, 2000, pp. 88-89.) We joyfully celebrate our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament especially by participating in today’s Eucharistic Procession down Park Avenue at the end of 11:15 AM Mass. Those who have taken the Pope’s invitation to pray from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (in Ste Claire Chapel) are encouraged to come over to St. Angela Hall and join in the Procession as Mass ends. This Friday, June 7 at 6:00 PM, Bishop Guglielmone will ordain Deacon Renaurd West to the sacred priesthood. Renaurd served here at St. Mary’s a summer and has maintained a great relationship with our parish. Everyone is invited to the ordination, which will be at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street in Charleston. Congratulations Renaurd! The time has almost arrived. In two weeks (16 June) we happily welcome our Bishop to St. Mary’s to celebrate 5:00 PM Mass in St. Angela Hall, after which he will bless the building site of our new church. Everyone is encouraged to come! We will keep our normal Mass schedule for Sat/Sun, but we are making provisions for large attendance at the Mass with the Bishop. Again, many thanks to all who have made and are making this possible through your generous contributions, prayers, and support of this important and historic endeavor. Finally, congratulations to our eighth graders of St. Mary’s School, who graduated last Thursday. They are a wonderful group of young men and women. I know you join me in praying for them as they continue onwards to high school. Yours in Christ, Father Wilson

St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church

Why Become a Stephen Minister?

The Stephen Series, in which SMHOC recently enrolled, is designed to train laypeople to bring Christ's healing love to hurting people. Loving others in Jesus' name is a challenge and an opportunity for all who are God's children.

Likewise, the joy of helping others is the privilege of all Christians, for the Holy Spirit has given gifts to each Christian to use in service to others and to build up the Church (1 Cor 12:7-11). Stephen Ministry will rely on the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to our lay members so that, as more people are equipped to care, Christ's love for us will be able to go out from us in ever greater and more effective ways. If you are interested please call the parish office at 649-4777.

Catechists needed for 2013-2014 school year:

Is God calling you to be a catechist? We are in need of catechists for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year, especially for the younger grades. If you would like to teach, but have questions or concerns, please let me know. There is a very detailed teacher's manual to help plan each lesson and wonderful resources at your disposal. One who is considering becoming a catechist MUST be a practicing Catholic and faithful to the Magisterium (teaching authority of the Church) and believe and professes all that the Church teaches in order to hand it on to our children. This is a work of inestimable value that Christ has called us to, and I ask for your help in this great mission. If you are interested in becoming a catechist, please contact me at 803.642.2676 or [email protected].

Many thanks! -- Priscilla Estrada, Director of Christian Formation

“It’s a Jungle Out There” dance were delivered by Mr. Gorilla during lunch. Before leaving campus,

Mr. Gorilla also enjoyed playing on the playground with our kindergarteners!
