NEXSYS® Component Technology DIODE PACK & TERMINAL BLOCK LOGIC & INTERFACE The Diode Pack and Terminal Block are 4-pin interface components developed as a part of NEXSYS® Component Technology. The Diode Pack is designed to replace external harness diodes and the Terminal Block eliminates the need for external splicing. Both the Diode Pack and Terminal Block components can be configured inside a VIVISUN® Compact or High Capacity switch body or inside a stand-alone NEXSYS Module for use behind the panel. The Diode Pack and Terminal Block can also be combined with electromechanical switches and other NEXSYS components to create a custom configuration that uniquely addresses the designer’s specific functional requirements. Each of the components is designed and tested in accordance with MIL-PRF-22885 and DO-160. The Diode Pack and Terminal Block are 4-pin interface components developed as a part of NEXSYS® Component Technology. The Diode Pack is designed to replace external harness diodes and the Terminal Block eliminates the need for external splicing. Both the Diode Pack and Terminal Block components can be configured inside a VIVISUN® Compact or High Capacity switch body or inside a stand-alone NEXSYS Module for use behind the panel. The Diode Pack and Terminal Block can also be combined with electromechanical switches and other NEXSYS components to create a custom configuration that uniquely addresses the designer’s specific functional requirements. Each of the components is designed and tested in accordance with MIL-PRF-22885 and DO-160.

Diode Pack Terminal Block

External Terminal Blocks

A Diode Pack allows the integration of a dual-diode component within a VIVISUN Body or the NEXSYS Module. To increase flexibility, we offer both a commercial and a military version of the Diode Pack.

Benefits: Both the military and commercial version of Diode Pack features:

• Convenient 4-pin module replaces unused switch poles,• Operating Range -55°C to +85°C,• Insulation Resistance 5000 Mega ohms at +25°C,• Dielectric Withstanding 1,000 VRMS , and• Tested to RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-202 environmental, shock and

vibration standards.

How it works: The Diode Pack can be included internally in a VIVISUN Body or NEXSYS Module to eliminate the need for external diodes and simplify circuit design and installation labor.

Two versions of Diode Pack are available:

Commercial Diode Pack (DP2C):

• Two 1N6484 glass passivated diodes (Vishay® or equivalent) Consult manufacturer’s datasheet for detailed diode specifications.

• Working Voltage and Breakdown Voltage of +1,000 VDC• 1 Amp average forward current

Military Diode Pack (DP2M):

• Two 1N5621JANTX Hermetic glass sealed diodes (Microsemi or equivalent) Consult manufacturer’s datasheet for detailed diode specifications.

• JEDEC Registered diodes• Triple layer passivation• +800 VDC Working Voltage• +880 VDC Breakdown Voltage• 1 Amp average forward current• Inherently radiation hard

As a part of NEXSYS Component Technology, Applied Avionics offers an internal 4-pin Terminal Block that may be incorporated within either a VIVISUN switch/annunciator or a NEXSYS Module.

Benefits: The Terminal Block (TB4) features:

• Convenient 4-pin module, • Replaces unused switch poles,• Maximum current rating 5 Amps,• Operating Range -55°C to +85°C,• Insulation Resistance 5,000 Mega ohms at +25°C,• Dielectric Withstanding 1,000 VRMS, • Gold plated pins for low current reliability, and• Tested to RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-202 Environmental, shock and

How it works: The Terminal Block (TB4) can provide an internal splice capability in a VIVISUN Body or NEXSYS Module to eliminate the need for external splice and common junction components.

See External Terminal Blocks below for dedicated 10-pin external rail mounted terminal blocks for designs with additional splicing requirements.

To accommodate designs that require additional dedicated external terminal blocks, Applied Avionics offers three versions of a 7.5 Amp, 10-pin, rail-mounted terminal block. These terminal blocks are external to a VIVISUN Body or a NEXSYS Module, and use different wire crimp termination contacts as specified below.

(1) Terminals Blocks are supplied with crimp contacts and sealing plugs. Additional crimp contacts for dedicated terminal blocks can be ordered using AOI P/N 22-120.

(2) These crimp contacts are compatible with the dedicated external terminal blocks listed. All VIVISUN Body and NEXSYS Module components, including the 4-pin integrated terminal block (TB4), use MIL-C-39029/22-192 (AOI P/N 18-219) crimp contacts, ordered separately.

(3) Consult MIL-T-81714 and MIL-T-81714/2 for detailed product specifications; temperature range -65°C to +200°C, insulation resistance 5,000 Mega ohms @ +25°C, and dielectric withstanding 1,500 VRMS.

Compatibility: The Diode Pack and Terminal Block components are compatible with a wide range of proven products, including:

• Indicators, switches and Modules,• 3/4" LED caps and 1" x 1.2" LR3 LED caps,• 95-Series incandescent caps, and• the solderless connector plug termination system (See Table 1).

Overview: The Diode Pack and Terminal Block are two NEXSYS components designed to enhance avionics design flexibility. The Diode Pack and Terminal Block can be configured into either a) a Compact or High-Capacity Body with an illuminated lens cap, or b) a stand-alone, behind-the-panel electronic NEXSYS Module. The innovative NEXSYS Component Technology was developed to simplify operator interface and circuit complexity by providing the ability to internally integrate multiple combinations of NEXSYS components into a single envelope, including functionality such as:

• Switch poles (VIVISUN switch/annunciator),• Electronic switching,• Electronic sensing and detecting, and• Logic/interface devices.

A single 4-pin NEXSYS component like the Diode Pack or Terminal Block can be combined with up to three additional 4-pin NEXSYS components or can be combined with an 8-pin NEXSYS component to bring a customized solution to your application. See Table 5 and How To Order for a complete description of the various configurations.

The VIVISUN switch body expands the capabilities of a standard pushbutton switch or indicator by utilizing the 4-pin Diode Pack and/or Terminal Block internally in thirteen distinct combinations of electromechanical switches, NEXSYS components, and “open” spacers. The Diode Pack and Terminal Block are compatible with either the Compact Body (based on a standard 2-pole housing) or High Capacity Body (based on a standard 4-pole housing).

The NEXSYS Module is a stand alone, behind-the-panel module that utilizes the 4-pin Diode Pack and/or Terminal Block in six distinct combinations of NEXSYS components and “open” spacers to provide functionality external to a standard switch envelope. The NEXSYS Module may be wired directly into the harness or may mount in a bracket or rail.
