DIPEX PROFILE
DipEx :
DipEx is a state level exhibition cum competition of the working models prepared by engineering students in Maharashtra and Goa states. It is a unique opportunity for students to exhibit their creativity, innovation & interact with industry, academic and market segment. Started in the year 1986, at Sangali, it has come a long way and provides exposure to students studying in polytechnics, degree engineering, IIT, PG, Agricultural & Research student from all over Maharahstra. DipEx has now become an annual event with gathering of creative students, academicians & industrialists.
Adding Dimensions :
Over the years, various new dimensions have been added to Dipex which started as platform for polytechnic studets. Today it has 14 sections of different streams. In 1996 a competition of working models was initiated for degree engineering students as a part of Dipex. To widen the horizon of Dipex, various sections involving students from IIT`s, post graduate science faculty, agricultural colleges and universities, a new section SHODH, for innovative ideas, and for experiments in non‐conventional, renewable energy sources, have been added.
Along with this exhibition cum competition part of Dipex, various seminars are also organsied to guide students about future scope and requirement in various fields like Reverse Engineering, Entrepreneurship Development, Information Technology, Agriculture, Appropriate Technology etc.
OBJECTIVES OF DIPEX
1. Identifying a real life problem faced by our country and applying technical knowledge to solve them.
2. Increasing ‘problem solving capabilities’ of engineering students.
3. Promoting creativity and innovativeness among students.
4. Developing manufacturing skills, zero defect concepts in making their projects.
5. Creating awareness about commercial applicability and feasibility of working models. 6. To cultivate respect to work culture, promoting indigenous technology and ultimate
goal of developing ‘ENTREPRENEURSHIP’ amongst the younger, educated human resource.

Journey of DIPEX from 1986 to 2007
1986‐89
• Sangli, a district head quarter of Maharashtra, comparatively a rural area, witnessed roots of Dipex. In its first 4 years, the number of working models & participants steadily increased.
• Idea of DipEx was crystallised with experience of early days. It became the state level forum of polytechnic students. The working models exhibited showed rare combination of innovativeness, creativity, good craftsmanship & potential for shop‐floor production.
1990‐93
• Continuous rise in response by students all over Maharashtra.
• Project guides i.e. teachers from respective polytechnics started interacting with DipEx organising committees. Involvement of teachers began.
• Director of Technical Education (Maharashtra) visited & considering its importance, started supporting DipEx through its machinery.
• Industrialists were imressed by the quality of projects, concept and feasibility. Overwhelming response of industrialists helped prize winners to start their own venture, a certain step towards entrepreneurship and self‐employment.
1994‐97
• A new sections such as Agriculture and Non conventional Energy Sources were added. • To respond to growing demand of degree engineering students and postgraduate students SHODH, a new section started which deals with appropriate technology for local applications.
• Srijan : DipEx centre for entrepreneurship Development established in 1996 under Public Trust Act to exert itself to offer proper assistance to start the own ventures for DipEx participants.
• This acts as nodal agency for DipEx participants to assist them in becoming entrepreneurs.
• Seminars, entrepreneurship motivation and development programs started from this period.

1998‐2000
• Consolidation of Dipex as event. • Project assessment Group (PAG) was formed and now all entries have to go through the stringent conditions of PAG before qualifying as a contestant at the main competition.
• Strict selection procedure is adopted to limit the number of entries & imrove quality and avoid repetition.
• Added new competition called Srijan for IIT, Degree Engineering and P. G. Students.
2001‐2007
Next phase of expansion with a theme ‘Applicability of the project in practice and its feasibility as commercial product in market’, new section of Information Technology & Biotechnology was added.
Also to showcase the great technological achievement by public & private sector companies & individuals, a new section called Success Stories of Bharatiya Technology was started. M.S.R.D.C., Konkan Railway, Siemens, K.V.I.C. Krishna Khore Vikas Mahamandal participanted in Dipex at Thane. Seminars on I. T. for Bharat, Ideas in Appropriate Technology, Talk with First Generation Entrepreneurs were organised.
• Dipex 2003 was arranged at two places in Maharashtra at Solapur & Dhule. 600 entries were received out of which 285 were selected to exhibit in Dipex.
• Dipex 2004 was held at Nanded where 462 entries from 80 Engg. & polytechnic colleges were scrutinized and after scrutiny, 232 working models & 1040 students participated in main event.
• Dipex 2005 was held at Sangali where 527 entries from 94 Engg. & polytechnic colleges were scrutinized and after scrutiny, 248 working models & 1160 students participated in main event.
• Dipex 2006 was held at Government Polytechnic, Latur, where 624 entries from 102 Engg. & polytechnic colleges were scrutinized and after scrutiny, 262 working models & 1190 students participated in main event.
• Dipex 2007 was held at G.S. Ground, Jalgaon where 596 entries from 108 Engg. & polytechnic colleges were scrutinized and after scrutiny, 238 working models & 1270 students participated in main event.
