At Taylor’s University, we are constantly aspiring toward a culture of academic excellence, while at the same time ensuring our students receive a well-rounded education. From our humble beginnings in 1969, our founders had a vision of an institution that is synonymous with teaching excellence and capable of producing students with highest merits. This philosophy is practised at every level of our organisation, from our teaching faculty to the management of campus facilities and last but not least, it is also emphasised in the psyche of our students so they are armed with the right knowledge to make their mark in their respective career fields.

As facilitators of a sound educational framework, our focus is preparing individuals to take their place as contributing members of the community. We believe we play a significant role in developing the nation’s youth into balanced and competitive human capital capable of contributing to the country’s development.

Today, we are recognised as one of Malaysia’s most successful and reputable private institutions of higher learning with over 65,000 graduates. This reputation was carved through our top-notch programmes and experienced lecturers. This success has not gone unnoticed. We have attained various accolades that have further cemented our leadership position in the education industry. Our highest achievement to date is the official upgrade to University status. This recognition is a driving force for us to uphold the quality of our education to meet Malaysia’s agenda for a world-class, high-income economy.

incorporates research-inForMed pedaGoGy and reFlective practiceOur students learn how to teach well by analysing research findings from both local and international sources. They are also taught to examine their own teaching practice and reflect on the outcomes. As such, modules like The Art and science of Teaching, classroom-based research Methods, research project and reflective practice are included in our programmes.

As we aspire to be at the forefront of education in general and teacher education in particular, we have set up an international panel of experts comprising renowned academics in various fields of education. They help us strengthen our school, enhance our reputation and increase our visibility to the outside world. With years of experience managing a classroom setting, this panel of experts serves as adjunct faculty, giving guest lectures and taking on short-term teaching stints in school of education.

Among the panel of experts are:1. prof. emeritus Abdul rahman Aroff, University putra Malaysia 2. prof. Fred dervin, University of helsinki, Finland 3. prof. Anne chapman, University of Western Australia 4. Assoc. prof. dr. daniel Tan, nanyang Technological University, singapore 5. dr. paul gruba, The University of Melbourne, Australia 6. dr. rosie Martin, Taylor’s education group, Malaysia.

FUll sUite oFFerinGsWe are the first and only Malaysian private university to offer undergraduate programmes in primary education. Along with our graduate programmes, our full suite of offerings in this field of study gives us a competitive advantage.

eqUips teachers to harness the power oF technoloGiesWe encourage our students to use a vast array of technology to enhance their teaching and learning initiatives. The promotion of technological resources is supported by the “Apple campus experience”. For example, each student receives an ipad as a learning tool, giving them an opportunity to explore the device from the perspective of his/her future students.

eMphasises on the application oF theory in aUthentic learninG environMentsTo ensure effective learning in student teachers, they are exposed to school of education’s laboratory schools, where they develop:

(a) pedagogical content knowledge and decision-making skills grounded in situational understanding of the classroom context in meeting students’ learning needs as framed by the curricular aims and learning outcomes; and

(b) critical understanding of school culture examined through the lens of promoting valued learning in students.

The laboratory schools function as ‘teaching hospitals’, providing vital clinical experience to student teachers as they prepare to become full-fledged teachers. They provide authentic and experiential environment for students to learn how to be effective teachers in the real world and draw valuable lessons from both the school staff, and their own observations and reflections.

The theory-practice gap is also further addressed through laboratory schools which also provide school placement opportunities in our programmes. students receive hands-on primary classroom teaching experience in our placement schools, namely garden international school, sri garden, sri garden international, Australian international school Malaysia and nexus international school. This valuable exposure gives them a coherent and connected approach to teaching and learning.
