DIPSCOOP an e-magazine 1 Dear Parents, We welcome you to the next edition of Dipscoop. The highlight of the month was The Annual Sports Day - QUINDECENNIAL where the students toiled hard and showcased their talent. Inter House Competitions Class I: Hand Printing is an exciting activity where child uses his/ her hand impressions to create a handprint art. An Inter House contest was held on 7 th November for Grade 1 to make learning fun. The contest was filled with imagination and colours. Class II: An Inter-House Group Singing Competition was conducted for the students of class II on Tuesday, 7th November, 2017 at Delhi Public School, Hyderabad. The theme for the competition was Celebrations’. The students gave a wonderful performance. Inter House Competitions Class I:

Class IV:

Wednesday, 8th November 2017 saw the students of class IV excited and enthusiastic as they got ready to participate in the Inter House Origami Contest. The Students had to create an animal or a bird using the technique of origami. While some students created a perfect figure from paper, others created parks and zoos full of animals and birds which was a treat for the eyes. Classes: V & VI

With the objective of improving the individual analytical skills of a student, a Numerical and Verbal Reasoning contest was conducted on 10th November, 2017 in the form of PowerPoint presentation. The test consisted of 20 questions displayed on smartboards. Students exhibited a lot of enthusiasm to comprehend the questions, work out the solutions and infer the right answer. Classes: VII & VIII

Taking part in a meaningful discussion helps in broadening knowledge of students and teaches them to think of the issues under consideration in a meaningful way. An Inter House Panel Discussion Competition was held on 09th November, 2017 for Std. VII and VIII. Students were judged on the criteria of content, diction, expression and conclusion. The participants discussed the topics with great confidence and poise.

Special Events Class: PREP. Road Safety Day

Road Safety Day was organized for Nursery children where the importance and awareness of safety rules was explained. The demonstrations included the importance of traffic lights, usage of Zebra crossing for pedestrians and when and where to take a U-turn by observing the traffic signals. Traffic signs like No parking, School zone, Construction under progress, Dead end were explained

Pre-Primary Empathy towards Animals

To make the children aware of different farm animals, their young ones and the products we get from them, a farm scene was created in the Pre-Primary wing on 13th November 2017. This activity included a variety of animals commonly found on a farm. The children also had the opportunity to tour the farm to meet and learn about the animals, which included dogs, sheep, rabbits, hens, horse, goats, cows and ducks.

PRE-PRIMARY Children’s Day Celebrations

Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th Nov., 2017. To make them feel exceptional they were asked to wear their favourite dress and bring their favourite toy. A kathputli show was planned for all the students. The show was an enormous hit with the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed watching the string puppets, and listening to the story and the music. They were amused to see the puppet demonstration done by the puppeteers for all of them. The children had the class party and savored their delicious treats. All the children were presented with a crown that was decorated by children themselves. They were made to feel special by making them wear the crown that read ‘you are special’.

One Nation Reading Together

One Nation Reading Together is an Annual Event organized by Scholastic India Pvt Ltd where students across the country spend 30 minutes reading their favourite book. On 24th November, Students of DPS Hyderabad took a pledge to read and enjoyed reading in their respective class rooms.

Classes: XI & XII

A Ted Talk was organised at DPS Hyderabad on 3rd November. Students of class IX and club members from class XI and XII attended the talk. The speaker for the day was Mr. Viiveck Verma. The objective of his speech was personal growth and development. He dwelled on finding our true potential by developing our sense of responsibility and accountability.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas - Sardar Vallabhai Patel

The Archaeological Survey of India, under the Ministry of Culture, organised an event at Golconda Fort, Hyderabad to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or the National Unity Day on the 31st of October 2017. Students from across various schools performed and participated in cultural events such as songs and dances to propagate the need for unity and cleanliness. Students took pledge for the Unity of the country. NIE Times in association with Global Tree conducted a career counselling session for the students of class 10, in order to open a plethora of opportunities for the students, to inspire them and broaden the mind of the students beyond the conventional fields of engineering and medicine.

The speakers interacted with the dipsites with lots of enthusiasm, which was equally reciprocated by the students.

Annual Sports Day Celebrations - QUINDECENNIAL

Delhi Public School, Hyderabad celebrated its Sports Day- Quindecennial at the Gachibowli stadium on Saturday, the 18th of November, 2017.

Quindecennial was indeed an amalgamation of celebrations marking fifteen years of excellence of this glorious institution. The Chief Guest for the evening was Justice Lavu Nageshwara Rao, Hon’ble Judge, Supreme Court of India and the Guest of honour Mr. Norman Issac, Technical Head of the Basketball Federation of India, who with the other dignitaries graced the event with their presence.

The evening began with the hoisting of the Sports Flag and was followed by a spectacularly vibrant ceremonial march by the Secondary and Senior Secondary students of classes 10th and 12th. Athletic events were held for classes 9 to 12. The tiny tots of classes 1 and 2 created the impeccable formation of Aladdin’s magic lamp and a genie which was symbolic of creativity and imagination of their young minds.

The colourful thematic display of classes 3 and 4 reflected the jubilant celebration with streamers and confetti in their hands giving a prismatic effect. Their formation of the Christmas bells sent out their warm wishes for the winter festival of Christmas. The performance of classes 5 and 6 which invoked the spirit of the state festival of Telangana- Bathukamma. Festooned with lofty floral formations by the boys, the girls gracefully danced in a circular motion around these formations.

The students of classes 9 and 10 swayed to the tunes of Bhangra with their rhythmic moves. Their formation of a lion symbolized majestic power and colossal strength.

This was followed by Symposium- an exuberant display by 600 students of classes 7 and 8 with peacock feathers.

As the night drew closer, every display raised the bar and was par excellence. The LED show with the bicycles by the boys of class 10 was a treat for the audience. The dichromatic display of red and green through the LED lights fitted to the wheels of the cycles stole the show.

This was followed by Symposium- an exuberant display by 600 students of classes 7 and 8 with peacock feathers.

As the night drew closer, every display raised the bar and was par excellence. The LED show with the bicycles by the boys of class 10 was a treat for the audience. The dichromatic display of red and green through the LED lights fitted to the wheels of the cycles stole the show.

Then came the grand finale by all the students from classes 5 to 12 which was the show stopper and culminated into a bedazzling display of fireworks. All in all ‘Quindecennial’ was a grand success and a kaleidoscope of performances.

Discover the Legacy – TATA Exhibition

To honor and commemorate the vision of Jamsetji N. Tata, founder of the Tata Group, Tata Central Archives organizes exhibitions in various schools and colleges on Jamsetji and his vision for the nation. The exhibition is specially designed for high school students to inspire the young minds and instill in them the values of harmony and patriotism. The panels are divided into four sections, enterprise, education, environment and engagement, each showcasing the contributions of Mr. Tata.

The Exhibition was held in Delhi Public School, Khajaguda, Hyderabad from the 27th of November till 30th of November. The exhibition was a successful culmination of the founder’s contributions. The event was graced by Mr. Vinayak Deshpande, Managing Director of Tata Projects Ltd, Mr.V. Rajanna, Vice President and Regional Head of TCS, Mr. Naresh Sharma , Head of Marketing Communication Tata Projects, Mr. S.R.Venkatesham, Tata Advanced systems, Mr. Don Doongaji, Director, Tata Archives Advisor, Mr. Zubin Mistry, VP Tata Services and Mr. Rajendra Prasad, Archivist Tata archives. The Principal of DPS Hyderabad, Mrs.Geetha Vishawananthan was also present at the event held in the auditorium.

The Tata exhibition portrayed the journey and vision of one man, Jamsetji Tata. The students of Delhi Public School gave various presentations on specific topics and conducted a quiz based on it. 12 schools participated in the exhibition across the twin cities.

As Ratan Tata says,” I don’t believe in taking right decisions, I take decisions and make them right.” All in all, the exhibition imparted knowledge amongst students and helped them to understand the vision of Mr. Tata.

Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2017-18

We, DPS Hyderabad participated in the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP) Survey initiated by Ministry of HRD, Dept. of School Education and Literacy, Government of India to recognize and celebrate excellence in sanitation and hygiene practice in schools. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools plays a significant role in determining the health of children, attendance, dropout rate, and learning outcomes. The provision of water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in school secures a healthy school environment and protects children from illness and exclusion. The Swachh Vidyalaya initiative has defined the essential elements of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools which are categorized under Water, Sanitation, Handwashing with Soap, Operations and Maintenance, Behaviour Change Activities and Capacity Building. DPS Hyderabad got 89/100 score with **** rating (Very Good).

PM’s Mission, Our Mission

The “Swacch Bharat” mission of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was taken up seriously by the students of DPS Hyderabad through display banners. It was also seen in full action at the Gachibowli stadium, after “Quindecennial” - the Annual Sports Day Celebrations of DPS, Hyderabad got over on 18th November, 2017. There were about 3000 students and their parents at the venue.

Members of the Interact Club of DPS Hyderabad were seen cleaning up the stadium of the trash the spectators had left behind. It was heartening to see these children take the message of cleanliness so seriously and lead by example by dirtying their hands.

SPORTS CORNER …

Trisha Sharma of class VIII Won 1 Gold and 1 Silver

medal respectively in 400 mts and 100 mts at CBSE

National Athletic Meet 2017 held at Allons School,

Chhatisshgarh from 20th to 26th November 2017.

Kaivalya Lakshmi of class IX got qualified in her first maiden Indian International Series 2017 in women category at the age of 14. This tournament was conducted in Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy by Badminton Asia Confederation and Badminton Association of India from 23rd Nov to 26th Nov., 2017.

Virat Karthikeya of class X got selected for Nationals in Cricket. The half-spinner has performed well in the Telangana SGF State Championship taking 16 wickets including two five- wicket hausl – in five matches, emerging as the highest wicket-taker.

Aarti Todime of Class X won Bronze Medal in State 10 mts Pistol Shooting Competition held at Hyderabad and selected for National Life Shooting Competitions held at Pune. Tavashya Kumar of Class XI, professional shooter in Air Pistol 10 M participated in several competitions. 1) RangaReddy district Level SGFI Shooting Competition and secured 1st position under 19 Boys. 2) State level SGFI Shooting Tournament cum selection trials and secured 1st position in Air Pistol U19 Boys. 3) Selected to represent Telangana state as part of the Telangana State Team at the SGFI National School Games to be held at Pune. 4) Participated in Inter DPS National Shooting Competition Boys (Open) 2017 and secured 1st position.
