Ship Docks Early Summer ClassesIn New Trade

M.V. PALLAS, the first ship to sailfrom the Port of Houston in LignesCentrafricaines new service to WestAfrica, arrived at Lagos on April 11,after a transit time of 16 days.

Emmett L. Morrison, Director ofMarketing for Oceans InternationalCorporation, agents for the line, saidthat the ship was able to get to a berthquickly because of special arrangementsmade for Lignes Centrafricaines.

The M. V. PALLAS had a cargo ofbagged rice, general cargo and steel onboard. The ship completed isdischarging on April 17.

The line started its activities aboutfour years ago from the continentmainly to Lagos. The service met withsuch success that it was extended toNigerian outports as well as other portsin the Dakar/Douala range. Now theships are sailing from Houston, theU.S. Gulf and East Coast to WestAfrican ports including Lagos, Warri,Port Harcourt, Sapele, Douala andTema.

The second ship to call at Houstonwill be the CAPE RAY. Plans arealready being made to increase thesailing frequency from one to twosailings per month.

NEW AFRICAN SERVICEArmada Lines Ltd., which recently

began a new independent service fromHouston and other U.S. Atlantic andGulf Coast ports to West Africa an-nounced cancellation of the 10 per centport detention surcharge for cargoesbound for Monrovia, Liberia. In an-nouncing the cancellation, JosephO’Brien, Line Manager for Armada atHansen & Tidemann, said that the portwas operating without congestion.
