Track Dogs - Album ReleaseAfter previously releasing two albums and touring together for four years, the acoustic four-piece known as Garrett Wall Band have decided to rename themselves Track Dogs and will be back touring Ireland in March in support of their eponymous new album.

The current single “Move a Mountain” is on the RTE Radio 1 playlist and is also enjoying great airplay in Spain where the band are based. The new album is released digitally worldwide on March 25th.

The album features 10 songs and two instrumentals including a reworking of the Nick Drake classic “Hazey Jane II” which was well suited to the band’s unique line-up of trumpet, cajón, guitar and bass with four vocals.

The video to the band’s current single was filmed in the west of Ireland around Lahinch and Clifden and was shot by Irish photographer Ronan Kirby who has also crafted 12 inspired photographs to accompany each song on the album and will feature in a 32 page booklet included with the physical release and a 17 page digital booklet available with the iTunes version of the album.

The Madrid-based band will also be embarking on an extensive tour of Spain with 18 dates already as part of their plan to play all 52 provinces of Spain in 2011.

Jumilla, vinos de prestigio

Jumilla ha sido una zona desprestigiada, e l a b o r a d o r a tradicional de vinos baratos y a granel. Bodega Casa de la Ermita, se encuentra rodeada a más de 700 metros de altitud, tierra de

escasas lluvias y suelos rocosos ofrece cepas vigorosas y uvas maduras con las que se elaboran vinos de gran textura, con mucho cuerpo y llenos de personalidad. Posee viñedos propios cultivados aunque la variedad más conocida de la zona es la Monastrell, la bodega se ha destacado por la adaptación y uso con éxito de otras variedades como la Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon… además de experimentar con otras 30 variedades de todo el mundo.

Elaborado con las variedades Monastrell y Petit Verdot, cada una de las variedades se vinifica y se cría por separado. La estancia en barricas de madera americana y francesa se hace en 9 meses, dejándose para el final el coupage y posterior embotellado.

Nota de cata: Color rojo cereza, con intensidad alta, lágrima espesa y coloreada. Nariz de fruta negra compotada, regaliz, balsámicos, notas minerales, mentolados, monte bajo mediterráneo, cacaos y especias (pimienta y canela). En boca presenta una entrada dulce, balsámicos, buen cuerpo, sabroso y de tanino abundante.

The Jumilla region has long been discredited by many, as the creators of bulk traditional cheap wines. Wine cellar Casa de la Ermita aims to change this perception. Surrounded by over 700 metres of altitude, a land which lacks rain, the rocky terrain is suited to vigorous varieties and mature grapes which create a wine with lots of texture, body and personality.

They own plenty of cultivated crops but the best known variety in the area is the Monastrell. The cellar is renowned for it’s adaptation and successful use of other grape varieties like Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon… they have also experimented on 30 other varieties from around the world.

This wine has been made using Monastell and Petit Verdot grapes; each of these varieties has been grown and fermented separately. They are held in American and French barrels for 9 months, leaving the coupage to the end just before bottling.

Tasting notes: cherry red in colour, with high intensity, dense and reddish legs, black fruit marmalade smell on the nose, along with liquorice and balsamic, minerals, menthol, lower Mediterranean mountain, cocoa, and spices (pepper and cinnamon). The flavour presents a sweet, balsamic taste, good body, flavoursome with lots of tannins.

This area is located in the North-Western sector of the Bay of Gibraltar, in the municipalities of Los Barrios and Algeciras. It includes several biotypes such as the estuary, a shoreline backed by sand dunes, pasturelands, wetlands, cultivated plots, and other areas of minor importance. Its mouth, even though it is located on the Mediterranean side of the Strait (theoretically conditioned by low tidal influences), denotes, due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, differences between high and low tide that are more noticeable than those produced at the nearby mouth of the river Guadiaro. Therefore, the predominant biotype at Palomes is a Mediterranean estuary that has Atlantic features, which includes a 60 ha. extension of consolidated mud flats, cut by numerous channels and streams with soft mud, lacking in vegetation, which surface to a certain extent at some low tides. A layer of vegetation based on halophytes covers this mud. Some formations of maritime reeds, which are very characteristic within the marshes, grow at the transition limits of channels and streams, showing the narrow range of tides in this area. The bird species that you can find in this Nature area include Greater Flamingo, Spoonbill, Osprey, and a variety of shorebirds, all during migration and winter. Access to this area is through El Rinconcillo (Algeciras,) although there are also interesting observation points from Palmones (Los Barrios).

In flight, the white rump contrasts with the birds black wings; legs extend beyond the tail. The male is slightly larger than the female and has a more intense black plumage. Juveniles are brown rather than black.

Common winter visitor to coastal regions, and an occasional summer visitor. ID: Medium-sized shorebird, unmistakable on account of its characteristic black and white head markings. Short, conical bill which it uses to turn over stones and shells in its search for food.

The following is a guide that will help the visitor to travel through one of the few examples of lived fortress existing in Spain: Castellar Castle.

The fortress of Castellar is built on a Roman assent whose main objective was to watch out the possible invaders coming from the sea. From the XIII century, Castellar became an important defensive building and it was a direct witness of the confrontation between Christians and Muslims. The castle dates back to this century. There is a village within the walls that has been inhabited for centuries.

If we access through the inferior entry, we arrive at the first flanking tower, whose main objective was to defend a weak area. After this first tower, and after walking through a passage with barbicans at both sides, we find the second albarrana tower. With these two towers and the barbican, the entry to the fortress was well protected and the enemy attack became very weak.

Once we have passed under the arch of second flanking tower, we can have a stop at what it is called “azoteilla” (it is like a terrace) from where we can have a fantastic view of the countryside nearby Castellar, Campo de Gibralrar, Los Alcornocales Natural Park, Ronda mountains and Morocco. La azoteilla is located next to the main gate to the fortress and we can study how this was in that period. From the azoteilla, we can also admire the Royal Palace building with all its elements and towers (today this palace has been transformed in a hotel ).

Behind the main door and passing under the arch, we have the arm courtyard that leads to the village. This village is of Muslim origin and it is made up by houses and narrow streets with a clear Arab influence. Some buildings are decorated with flowers and other plants.

Within the village, the visitor can see the former church, which is today an exhibition gallery, and a curious architectural element: algorfa, which is a passage that used to link the palace and the church and that was used by the former Lords to attend mass, being separated from the rest of the village.

Through some streets of the village, we can admire a wonderful view of the wonderful landscape as well as the wall and flanking towers that closed the fortress.

Nowadays, Castellar Fortress is visited by lots of people. There are visitors that come for one day, but there are others that prefer staying more days and enjoy the nature, tranquillity, and architecture or feel the experience of living in a village with a great historic importance. For that purpose, they rent the different houses that are available for tourists. There is also a three stars hotel built in the former Royal Palace. The traditional gastronomy is also offered in the restaurants and bars in the village.

What is it?The heart is an integral part of the cardio vascular system that pumps blood around the body with the purpose of supplying working muscles with oxygen. The right side of the heart receives blood retuning from all parts of the body and pumps blood into the lungs to oxygenate the blood. The left side of the heart receives the oxygenated blood from the lungs and channels it towards the aortic valve for distribution throughout the body.

How does it affect me?The heart is usually fist sized, and beats at rest 70 times per minute, 100800 times a day and 36 million times a year…. amazing! The more efficient the pump the less stress the body will experience.

What effect will exercise have on it?

The efficiency of the heart is determined by its ability to cope with the demands of physical activity. The output of the heart as with any pump, is determined by its pumping rate (heart rate) and the quantity of blood ejected with each stroke (stroke volume). The workload is Heart rete x Stroke volume.

A trained heart will be able to cope with a higher intensity than that of an untrained heart, as it is able to provide the working muscles with a greater supply of oxygen.

Through exercise stroke volume can be increased and heart rate lowered.

In summary: your heart is a muscle and it needs exercise!

¿Que es?

El corazón es una parte integral del sistema cardiovascular y bombea sangre a todo el cuerpo con el propósito de aportar oxigeno a los músculos que están trabajando. El lado derecho de corazón recibe sangre de todas partes del cuerpo y luego bombea sangre a los pulmones para que se oxigené. El lado izquierdo del corazón recibe la sangre oxigenada y la envía hacia la válvulas aortas para redistribuir al cuerpo entero.

¿Como me afecta?

El corazón es el tamaño de su puño y pulsa a mas o menos 70 pulsaciones por minuto, 100,800 veces al día y 36 millones de veces al año…..increíble! Lo mas eficiente es su corazón el menos estrés tendrá su cuerpo.

¿Qué efecto tendrá el ejercicio?

La eficacia del corazón esta determinado por su habilidad de trabajo bajo altas demandas físicas. La salida del corazón al igual que con cualquier bomba esta determinada por su tasa de bombeo (el ritmo del corazón), y la cantidad de sangre que envía con cada pulsación (volumen por pulsación). Así es que el trabajo o salida que da el corazón se puede calcular por: (el ritmo del corazón) X (volumen por pulsación)

Con entrenamiento regular, volumen por pulsación, puede mejorarse, cual sea su sexo o edad. Es también muy común que con entrenamiento y acondicionamiento aeróbico, las pulsaciones cuando trabajando se reduzcan de 12 a 15 latidos por minuto.

En resumen, su corazón es un músculo y le hace falta ejercicio!

There is a visitors’ centre in Cortes de la Frontera 952 154 599, with information on geology, flora and fauna of the park.
