    Direction of Foreign Trade

    OECD Countries

    Total Exports to OECD countries in 1990-91 were rupees 183.89 billion and Total Imports from OECD

    countries were 247.13. In 2011-12 India is still importing more goods than exporting the goods and

    services i.e. imports were rupees 6958.33 billion and exports were rupees 4935.72 billion. But in

    between the Exports were more than the imports i.e. from 2000-01 to 2003-04 and there after India

    again stared importing more goods.

    India is doing foreign trade from OECD by importing most of the goods rather than exporting.

    The Exports and Imports from OECD countries are as Follow:

    European Union :As we see from the data, in 1990-91 the total export from European Union is rupees 89.51 billion

    and total imports were 126.80 and in 2011-12 the total exports were rupees 2517.88 and totalimports were rupees 2744.82 billion. As we see that India is exporting most of its goods to

    Netherlands i.e. rupees 438.78 billion in 2011-12 previously in 1990-91 India was exporting least

    goods to Netherlands i.e. rupees 6.44 billion and now least to France in 2011-12 i.e. rupees 220.49

    billion. India is importing most of its goods from Germany and least goods from Netherlands i.e.

    rupees 753.6 billion from Germany and rupees 129.52 billion from Netherlands and In 1990-91 India

    was importing most of goods from Germany i.e. rupees 34.73 billion and least to Netherlands i.e.

    7.33 billion.

    North America:As we see from the data, in 1990-91 the total export from North America is rupees 50.77 billion and

    total imports were rupees 58.04 billion and in 2011-12 the total exports were rupees 1742.95 and

    total imports were rupees 1244.33 billion. As we see that India is exporting and importing most of its

    goods from Canada and U.S.A. The major country to whom India export and import is U.S.A. India is

    exporting more to U.S.A. and importing less in 2011-12 i.e. exports were rupees 1645.27 billion and

    imports were rupees 1121.2 billion. And in 1990-91 Imports were more than exports from U.S.A. i.e.

    imports were rupees 52.45 billion and exports were rupees 47.97 billion.

    Asia and Oceania :As we see from the data, in 1990-91 the total export from Asia and Oceania is rupees 34.01 billion

    and total imports were rupees 48.26 billion and in 2011-12 the total exports were rupees 436.06 and

    total imports were rupees 1336.69 billion. As we see that India is exporting and importing most of its

    goods from Austraila and Japan The major country to whom India export and import was Japan in

    1990-91 i.e. exports were rupees 30.39 billion and imports were rupees 32.45 billion. In 2011-12

    India is exporting more to Japan and importing more from Australia i.e. exports were rupees 304.6

    billion from Japan and imports were rupees 711.29 billion from Australia.

    Other OECD:As we see from the data, in 1990-91 the total export from Other OECD countries is rupees 9.61

    billion and total imports were rupees 14.03 billion and in 2011-12 the total exports were rupees

    238.83 and total imports were rupees 1632.5 billion. As we see that India is exporting and importing

    most of its goods from Switzerland. In 1990-91 India exports were rupees 4.02 billion and imports

    were rupees 4.80 billion from Switzerland. In 2011-12 India is importing more than exporting goods

    at a very big gap from Switzerland i.e. exports were 53.17 billion and imports 1546.26 billion.

    We that India is exporting and importing most of its good from European Union of OECD countries.

    OPEC Countries

    Total Exports to OPEC countries in 1990-91 were rupees 18.31 billion and Total Imports from OPEC

    countries were 70.41. In 2011-12 India is still importing more goods than exporting the goods and

    services i.e. imports were rupees 8312.03billion and exports were rupees 2777.40 billion.

    India is exporting and importing most of its goods from UAE in 2011-12 i.e. exports were 1719.42

    and import were 1707.89 and exporting least of its goods to Iraq i.e. 37.18 and importing least of its

    goods from Iran i.e. 653.68 in 2011-12. In 1990-91 india was exporting most of its goods to UAE i.e.

    7.87 and importing most of its goods from Saudi Arabia i.e. 28.99 and India is exporting least of its

    goods to Iraq i.e. 0.44 and importing least of its goods from Indonesia i.e. 1.46.

    India is doing foreign trade from OPEC by importing most of the goods rather than exporting.

    Eastern Europe

    Total Exports to Eastern Europe in 1990-91 were rupees 58.19 billion and Total Imports from Eastern

    Europe were 33.77. In 2011-12 India is importing more goods than exporting the goods and services

    i.e. imports were rupees 410.39 billion and exports were rupees 155.26 billion.

    India is mostly exporting and importing goods to Romania and Russia. In 1990-91 India is exporting

    and importing most of good from Russia i.e. exports were 52.55 and imports were 25.48. From 2006-

    07 to 2011-12 India had no foreign trade with Romania. In 2011-12 major exports and imports are

    with Russia i.e. exports were 83.53 and imports were 227.67.

    Developing Countries

    Total Exports to Developing Countries in 1990-91 were rupees 55.60 billion and Total Imports from

    Developing Countries were 80.57. In 2011-12 India is importing more goods than exporting the

    goods and services i.e. imports were rupees 7564.64 billion and exports were rupees 5944.42 billion.

    Total Exports to Developing Asian Countries in 1990-91 were rupees 46.83 billion and Total Imports

    from Eastern Europe were 60.5. In 2011-12 India is importing more goods than exporting the goods

    and services i.e. imports were rupees 6062.83 billion and exports were rupees 4319.99 billion.

    Total Exports to Developing African Countries in 1990-91 were rupees 7.06 billion and Total Imports

    from Developing African Countries were 10.28. In 2011-12 India is exporting more goods than

    importing the goods and services i.e. imports were rupees 933.47 billion and exports were rupees

    981.93 billion.

    Total Foreign Trade done in 1990-91 were 325.58 billion in exports and 431.93 billion. Total Trade in

    2011-12 are 14592.80 billion in exports and 23459.73 billion in imports.
