ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology (M-CET) is the prestigious
technical education project of the leading industrial group, The Mohandas Group of Companies,
Thiruvananthapuram. The college is managed by V. N. Gangadhara Panicker Memorial Trust
with Shri. G Mohandas as the Chairman and Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran as the Executive
Director and Dr. S Sheela as the Principal. The Institution is affiliated to Kerala Technological
University and the courses are approved by AICTE. The Institution offers B. Tech courses of
four year duration, MCA course of three year duration and M.Tech courses of two year duration.
The Institution strictly adheres to the procedures and policies of AICTE and ISO. As a
part of its quality assurance, the college has received ISO 9001:2008 Certification. The
Institution promotes and champions learning by providing a variety of instructional settings,
where students and faculty can share and create new knowledge in science and technology. It
distributes knowledge to an audience of peers and citizens through a great diversity of academic
literature and professional activities. The facilities and infrastructure of this college and its
ambience enables the students to bring out the best in them. Consistent with its mission, M-CET
takes seriously its commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment conducive to student
learning and growth through curricular and co-curricular programmes.
NSS @ MCET
The National Service Scheme unit was formed with a noble aim of serving the different
sections of the under privileged and the needy. The NSS unit of MCET actively organizes
various social services activities for the communities from March 2004 onwards. MCET boasts
of a very active and vibrant NSS unit which has always defied the expectations of all. Under the
able leadership of Executive Director Dr. Ashalatha Thampuran and Principal Dr. S Sheela
and dynamic programme officers the unit has endeared itself to all sections of people in and
around Anad Panchayath as well members of MCET.

BENEFICIARIES:STUDENTS OF THE SCHOOL
OUTCOME: The kits consisting of 4 notebooks, pencil box set as many as 200 kits were
distributed to selected students on June 1st, the school opening day.
HIGHLIGHTS:The Praveshanolsavam was inaugurated and was made grand success by
Director MCET Dr. AshalathaThampuran, Principal Dr .S. Sheela and Panchayath president.

ACTIVITY: CLEANLINESS DRIVE

BENEFICIARIES: local people of Anad
OUTCOME: NSS unit 116, 159 in association with AnadGramapanchayath conducted a
cleanliness drive. Various organizations came together with NSS volunteers to present outbreak
of diseases such as dengue, malaria etc.
HIGHLIGHTS: Around 60 volunteers participate in the drive inaugurated by Sri.Anad Suresh
Panchayth President.

OUTCOME: the survey was collected the details about the current waste management
techniques adopted in various houses in the selected Ulloor locality ,so that the Nagarasabha will
get a correct idea about the waste management technique to be adopted for a cleaner Trivandrum.

ACTIVITY: INDEPENDENCE DAY OBSERVATION AND BUDS SCHOOL VISIT

VENUE: COLLEGE AND BUDS SCHOOL, ANAD
BENEFICIARIES:Buds school staff and students, volunteers
OUTCOME: NSS volunteers assembled in front of library and flag was hosted as part of
observing Independence Day. Sweets distributed to security members and non teaching staff.
HIGHLIGHTS: As part of Independence day, the volunteers visited Buds School, Anad, a
school for mentally retarded children. Volunteers interacted with the children and organized
various programs to entertain them.

OUTCOME: During the visits to the school thenecessicity of refrigerator for the BUD School
was felt , NSS unit MCET with the help of PTA ,MCET donate a refrigerator to the BUDS
School.

OUTCOME:NSS unit MCET in association with AnadGramapanchayath and Community
health center ,Anad donated onam kits to the near and dear ones of 50 bedridden palliative
patients.
HIGHLIGHTS:The function was graced by Dr. AshalathaThamburan Director MCET,
Panchayth President Sri. Anad Suresh and Dr.Manoj CHC Anad were presented.

ACTIVITY: ROLE OF VOLUNTEERS IN COMMUNITY MEDICINE

VENUE: MCET MINI AUDITORIUM
BENEFICIARIES: Volunteers
OUTCOME: A session on “Role of volunteers in community medicine” was handled by Dr.
Mathew from TVM Medical College around 100 volunteers participated in the session and
received awareness about various lifestyle diseases, harmful effect of smoking, alcohol and
drugs. Session also included information about spread of communicable diseases.
AWARENESS CLASS FOR VOLUNTEERS
ACTIVITY: HOME VISIT/AWARENESS DRIVE ON COMMUNICABLE AND NON
COMMUNICBLE DESEASES

VENUE: Anad village
BENEFICIARIES: locals, students.
OUTCOME: Around 100 volunteers divide themselves in to groups and visted around 100
homes and interacted with community members providing awareness about prevention of
communicable diseases.

VENUE: GANDHI BHAVAN PATHANAPURAM, A HOME FOR ELDERLY AND
MENTALLY CHALLENGED.

OUTCOME: The students collected dresses from members of faculty as well as amongst them
and handed over to Gandhi Bhavan authorities.
HIGHLIGHTS: the students interacted with the inmates and also did some entertainment
programs for them.

OUTCOME: As part of Gandhi Jayanthi we visited AshaBhavan old age home Poojappura .
The volunteers spend time with the inmates, interacted with them and took part in cultural
programmes along with them.

OUTCOME: NSS unit MCET participated in the group run conducted by excise department and
department of education as a part of awareness drive against drugs and alcohol.
HIGHLIGHTS: around 30 volunteers participated in the run flag off from Nedumangad School
by Mr. PradeepCircle Inspector Excise Department.
RALLY CONDUCTED AGAINST DRUGS
ACTIVITY: FOUNDER’S DAY PROGRAM

OUTCOME: As a part of Founder’s Day, Sadhya was arranged for staffs and students at college
and lunch was supplied to inmates of AshaBhavan, centre for elderly mentally challenged,
Vattappara.

OUTCOME: Flag was hoisted in front of the college library, followed by a parade and sweets
were distributed to students.

OUTCOME:32 units of blood was donated by the first year students and staffs of the college.
HIGHLIGHTS:An awareness on voluntary blood donation was created among students and
staffs.

OUTCOME: An eye checkup camp was conducted in the college for staffs and students by
Precise eye hospital.

ACTIVITY: NSS TEHNICAL CELL ANNUAL 7 DAY CAMP 2018

VENUE: SNVHSS ANAD
BENEFICIARIES: Students, public.
OUTCOME: The campers also renovated equipments of PeroorkadaGovt Hospital and Govt
Ayurveda Hospital, Anad. The hard work of campers resulted in welding, painting and repair of
cots, bedside lockers, wooden massage table, tube lights and fans at wards. The campers cleaned
the premises, the water tank and painted the building of Govt Ayurveda Hospital Anad. These
activities were appreciated by hospital authorities and patients as they contributed to increasing
life of aging equipments and well being of patients. The awareness classes conducted by Smt.
Anjana, Director KSACS was inspirational and helped the campers to face everything with a
postive outlook. The motivational class held by Asst Prof Babu was innovative and energetic, the
campers learned to make best out of team work through games and talk.
HIGHLIGHTS: The annual camp 2018 was held at Govt LPS Anad. The camp was inaugurated
by Shri.Anad Suresh, Panchayath President, Anad. The campers took up renovation of wards of
GovtTaluk hospital, Nemom as their main project.
The 7 day camp was a wonderful learning experience for the students in community living. The
volunteers themselves cooked food, done renovation works, took part in cultural programmes.
All campers participated in extempore speech organized during evening sessions and many
conquered the fear of public speaking. The camp was a great learning experience and was able to
bring a clear transformation in the participants.
