The agency provides potable water to Oahu residents. Itdoes everything from drilling the water wells to laying pipe tothe homeowner or business property line, and it tests for andmaintains water purity.
The Board of Water Supply governs this semi-autonomousagency and hires the manager and chief engineer. Fivemembers are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by thecity council; the director of the state's TransportationDepartment and the chief engineer of Honolulu's PublicWorks Department serve as ex-officio members. The boardfinances its own operations through water use fees and bondsales.
