Program Leadership West Bend is a 9-month program beginning in September with a two day retreat. Full-day sessions are conducted the third Thursday of each month with a focus on specific community-based curriculum. Candidates also participate in a Community Enrichment Group for a non-profit organization. Graduation is held in May with the group presentations, followed by a luncheon and graduation ceremony.
At each program session, Leadership Alumni and local leaders will provide information on specific topics including: Environment; History; Public Safety; Health & Wellness; Education; Human Services and Business.

Who Should Participate Anyone employed or living in the West Bend area is encouraged to submit an application. Participants should convey a desire to serve the community in a leadership role. Upon acceptance to the program, each participant must make a commitment to attend all sessions to fulfill graduation requirements.
Leadership West Bend energizes new and existing leaders to make a long-lasting
investment in our community. Graduates strengthen the West Bend area through
their time, knowledge and passion.
What Participants Will Gain ... Graduates discover and better understand the community they live in and as a result become a better leader and citizen. Many find that this pro-gram brings out qualities in them they did not know existed. They leave with a greater under-standing and perspective of our community; a better knowledge of themselves and how to utilize their strengths; enhanced confidence and decision-making skills; unparalleled learning opportunities; a new network of professionals; and a passion to build our community.
What Employers Will Gain ... Many employers derive a plethora of benefits from an investment in Leadership West Bend. Their employees, involvement in the program, build a stronger connection to the community strengthening their business through: • Networking opportunities • Grooming leaders for self-growth within
their business. • Improvement of employees’ strengths in
working with others and providing a vision for “big picture” thinking.
• Exposure and visibility of their business. • Heightening of problem-solving skills. • Involvement in a community-based curricu-
lum program that bestows knowledge and strengthening of skills.
Tuition Program tuition is $800.00 for a WBA Chamber member and $1,600.00 for a non-member. Tuition includes all program materials, Retreat, speaker costs and meals. Partial financial assistance is available through scholarships from the Leadership West Bend Alumni Association and awarded at the discretion of the Recruitment Committee.

2018-2019 Leadership West Bend Community Enrichment Group Synopsis
Washington County Fair Park—AIS
The Agriculture and Industrial Society is a 501.3c created in 1998 to operate the Washington County Fair Park & Conference Center. The Washington County Fair Park & Conference Center spans 133 acres, comprising of two large expo buildings, an agricultural complex, an outdoor am-phitheater, and more. It hosts over 350 events annually. Our leadership group was exposed to several board meetings, the first of which involved a presentation by Washington County focusing on how it’s removing financial support from several non-profits (including AIS). The board meet-ings, led by Kellie Boone, were efficient, informative, and focused on high level items reported by the chairs of several subcommittees. We were thoroughly impressed by the way AIS is adapting to the removal of County Fair change fund and the reduced levy. Graduates: Adam Barr, Brian Kiley, Nathan Reigle
Kettle Moraine Symphony
Participating as a subset consulting board the group tackled one of the most pressing matters fac-
ing the Kettle Moraine Symphony – Who is their audience? The group worked with members of the KMS Board to determine what they needed in regard to information from their audience. The group designed a survey initially presented at the February, 2019, concert. The survey was of-
fered for the May, 2019, grand finale concert as well. Working with returned surveys from both concerts, the data gleaned will be used to help the KMS Board set strategic planning to better un-derstand and serve their audience.
Graduates: Bradford Ney, Julie Jennings, Isaiah Richie
2018-2019 Leadership West Bend Project Synopsis
Chix 4 a Cause
The project was to help Chix 4 a Cause plan a concert fund-raiser to benefit area residents battling cancer. Chix 4 a Cause, a local nonprofit organization, assists residents of southeastern Wisconsin by providing Gifts of Love to help ease the challenges that cancer can cause. Gifts may include a one-time monetary gift, bill payment, cleaning services, gas cards, resource connections, a comput-er, prayer shawls, emotional support, a night out or a weekend away – whatever the individual most needs. To raise funds for Gifts of Love, the June 15, 2019, concert at Washington County Fairgrounds Silver Lining Amphitheater will feature a three-band line-up, a poker run, food trucks, beverages and more. The group helped plan, strategize and name the event. Group members brain-stormed corporate sponsorship categories, solicited sponsors and vendors, and helped develop event materials, communications and promotional opportunities. They will also help staff the event itself. Graduates: Adam Gitter, Tim Olsen, Sheri Schneider, Cassie Wimer Roots and Branches
We have been given the wonderful opportunity to work with West Bend’s very own non-profit or-
ganization, Roots and Branches. When we first met, we were challenged with how we could help
Roots and Branches reach out to a younger demographic and help them plan their upcoming 30th
anniversary celebration. We brainstormed about getting a garden going with the Boys and Girls
Club again, and we were able to make a connection to the West Bend High School’s “Nifty Nib-
ble” for growing fresh herbs to use in their meal prep. In addition, we assisted in implementing a
brand-new scholarship program for graduating students looking to establish a career in horticulture
or the like. For the upcoming 30th anniversary celebration, we spent time reviewing their wonder-
ful yearbooks to pick out items for an anniversary slideshow. We are thankful for the amazing op-
portunity to work with Roots and Branches. Our eyes were opened to the day to day operation of a
small non-profit. We are excited to see what the future holds for Roots and Branches!
Graduates: Bryce Gannon, Eric Grinwald, Mary Koel, Jennifer Rands
