Movies! The staff at the Capitol is working on a classic film series at this very time and is looking for ideas and input from you. Please email Matt ([email protected], or write a note to him care of the Capitol no later than August 5) with your thoughts and, if possible, respond to these questions:

Is once a month (one day a month) fora classic movie screening sufficient? If not, what is your recommendation?

How many films would make a good first season: 4, 5, 6, or more?

Under the one day a month scenario, is there a day of the week that would be better than others for a classic movie series?

How many screenings of that film should be offered? Does it make sense to do a screening for seniors earlier in the day and one at night for others? Thoughts on show times? What time would you come to see a great old movie at the Capitol?

What’s a fair ticket price for a classic movie for seniors? For other patrons?

Do you have any other thoughts, ideas, or comments?

Films that are currently being discussed for the first season include:THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938), TWELVE O’CLOCK HIGH (1949), MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947), THE THIN MAN (1934),CASABLANCA (1942), THE QUIET MAN (1952), EASTER PARADE (1948), MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (1946), and MY MAN GODFREY (1936). Are there particular films you would like to see included in this series, either nowor in future years?

Finally, Matt will be looking for filmconnoisseurs to assist with theintroduction and presentation of the movies chosen. More will be sharedas this series takes shape. Thanks in advance for your assistance, and we hope to hear from you.

A WONDERFUL FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH(that we continue to recruit)

ince our beginning 25 years ago volunteers have been the life force behind the Capitol Civic Centre’s restoration and operations. Volunteers fill a variety of key roles – ushers, house managers, show security, hospitality/concessions, box office

assistants, receptionists, custodial, and show poster delivery. The Capitol is always looking for additional volunteers forthese areas AND we have some specific needs in the monthsto come.

On Thursday, April 28th, the Capitol Civic Centre held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Evening. Twenty volunteers were honored for contributing 3,512 hours to the CCC in 2010. They were among the 154 active volunteers contributing more than 7,600 hours this past year.

In closing: The Capitol thanks all of its volunteers. There would be no Capitol Civic Centre without you!

s

Capitol Volunteers...1. Opening bids will be processed Monday morning, Aug. 8, and should be mailed to “Dinner With Liz” C/O Capitol Civic Centre, P.O. Box 399, Manitowoc, WI 54221-0399. Written bids must include your name, address, email, and phone, along with an “auction alias” for online monitoring of the auction.

2. The bidding process will be posted on the Capitol CivicCentre website (cccshows.org). Click on the “About Us” tab at the top of the screen, then click on “Dinner with Liz.”

3. All bids will be posted in conjunction with the bidder’s alias; no real names will be used. With the exception of the initial bids (received on Monday, Aug. 8), matching bids will beprioritized by date and time received.

4. Once posted on the Capitol website, anyone who wants to increase their bid they may do so by calling Lori at 920-686-6424 (leave a detailed message if you get voicemail) or email-ing her at [email protected] (Subject line: Dinner with Liz). Provide your name, your on-screen auction “alias,” and your new bid amount.

5. General bidding will end at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12;current bidder status will be posted immediately following on the Capitol website. Bidders may also call 920-686-6424 to determine their bid status as of 4 p.m.

6. Following the close and posting of “general bidding,” any bidder wishing to submit one last “finale” bid will have until6 p.m. (Friday, Aug. 12) to do so via phone or sealed bidsubmitted on-site at 702 Jay Street, Manitowoc, with all bids being registered based upon time received.

7. The top bid received as of 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, will win the auction. In the event of a tied high bid, theearliest high bid received will be the auction winner. In order to be fair to all bidders, the bidding will end with this final round of submissions.

The opening bid will be $1,000. Minimum increase increment is $100. All proceeds will go to benefit the Capitol Civic Centre, a 501c3 charitable organization.

List as of June 29 , 2011

Volunteer roster

the spirit of the army of volunteers who assisted with the renovation back in 1987, the Capitol is looking to create a summer strike force of skilled individuals to tackle a num-

ber of paint and repair projects around the property later this summer. The plan is to complete a dozen or more projects over a three-week period, Aug. 15 through Sept. 2, working several mornings a week. Those with painting, carpentry, stucco, and similar skills are urged to contact Peggy at 686-6421.
