Disability Counseling Representative
Submitted by:

An OverviewAn OverviewThis presentation addresses the
significant growth potential for credit unions by counseling the disabled about:– Retaining and growing their income
through the use of credit unions.– How to access and manage loans.– Where to turn for counseling about
mortgages or other large expenditures such as healthcare.
The Disability Counselor is an individual who has the ability to communicate the Credit Union’s capabilities through counseling to meet the unique needs of the local disabled community, based on their intimate understanding of this population.
Disability Counselor Description
The Disability Counselor would:• Develop and secure business
within the disabled community (36% Market Share)*
• Resourcefully serve the unique needs of the disabled perspective clients insuring that their needs be ethically and fairly met.
• Become a liaison between the disabled and The Credit Union.
• Provide ‘in-home service’ (explaining documentation to those who are or become ‘home bound’, making sure that ‘home bound’ members needs are met).
Rationale Behind the Position
The rationale behind developing such a position is two-fold.
• The disabled feel more secure interacting with other disabled individuals; thus it would serve them and us well to have someone with a disability on staff.
• Having an employee with a disability driving our business within that market segment insures that we can better meet their needs and demonstrate why a credit union is a wise choice for them in a meaningful way.
(Why hasn’t someone addressed this growing market before?)

SummaryAssumptions and logical direction:1. An obvious market target for credit unions
seeking growth is that of the disabled.2. Creating an understanding capability will
open doors for the credit unions who hire and use savvy disabled business development employees.
3. The disabled are driven to save and grow income and may be even more so as the new health care laws are enacted the credit union is a good choice for them.
