Disability Opportunity Fund
Launched in 2007, the mission of Disability Opportunity Fund (DOF) is to provide technical and
financial services to individuals and organizations serving the disability market throughout the U.S.,
with a focus on affordable housing, schools, community facilities, health facilities, and vocational
training centers and jobs, creating businesses or service providers.
DOF is a national CDFI which provides financing, technical services, and policy advocacy to increase
access to appropriate opportunities for people with disabilities throughout the U.S. By working
together with other CDFIs, banks, investors, families, social service providers, developers, and
government entities, DOF funds projects to find creative solutions to the nationwide shortage of
housing for people with disabilities. DOF also helps those with disabilities realize their full potential by
funding community facilities, such as schools and vocational training centers. Other products and
services include community-oriented programs, lending and financing opportunities, educational
programming, and technical assistance to parents and social service institutions.
Success Story: Rising Tide, South Florida
Rising Tide is a scalable social enterprise with the primary mission to employ adults with autism. By
delivering a first-rate car wash experience to the consumer, Rising Tide strives to inspire
communities to change their perception of the capabilities of people with autism. Through intensive
training, team-building and caring for the community, Rising Tide sets its employees up for success
by providing people with autism with an opportunity to build a career and achieve an independent
lifestyle. DOF provided flexible financing of over $2.8 million which allowed Rising Tide to build its
second and third locations in Florida.
