Disaster Recovery Service for Cloud

Disaster Recovery Service for Cloud is a managed replication service that protects the virtual machines in your cloud - public or private and delivers a 24/7 expert disaster recovery response from our managed services team.

Aligned with ITIL and ISO 22301 standards, our disaster recovery services provide continuous data protection of critical applications, application data, and infrastructure. Our service level agreement includes recovery point objectives of less than 15 minutes and recovery time objectives of less than four hours, while preserving the relational dependencies of the applications that relate to your mission-critical business processes.

Our fully managed disaster recovery services provide the infrastructure, processes, and skilled expertise you need in the event of a disaster – all without an investment in infrastructure, special tools, training, or maintenance.

You have the option of choosing either a Dimension Data private cloud or a Dimension Data public cloud environment as your disaster recovery site.

Disaster Recovery Service for Cloud includes:

Technical recovery plan development We help you enable quicker, more cost-effective business resumption through the development of disaster recovery plans that are aligned with your business goals. Our programme management expertise and leading industry practices will assist in the lifecycle management of your business continuity management practice.

Disaster recovery programme management Our IT experts will monitor and manage your disaster recovery solution, ensuring that all necessary servers are protected, changes are effectively managed, and any incidents are resolved in an efficient manner while maintaining service level agreements.

Disaster recovery responseOur skilled team of disaster recovery engineers will ensure that your disaster recovery plans are regularly tested and improved to ensure that any actual disaster situation can be responded to 24/7 for a successful recovery.

Journal-based implementation to support your recovery point objective We use a journal to hold point-in-time information of all the changes made to protected data. You can define your rollback policy (typically three days) to support your recovery point objective to recover to any point in time within the journal. In the event of data corruption, you can roll back just seconds before the corruption occurred and reverse the error.

Data protection with consistency groups

Our Managed Recovery and Migration Platform orchestrates the protection of data by consistency group, which sets to preserve relational dependencies such as those of a database and a database log. Using consistency groups, a multi-tier application can be staged and restored as a group during the recovery process.

Your application or business transaction systems – sales order systems, payment transactions, inventory, and supply chain management – deployed in virtual machines within our private cloud will be restored in the right sequence and to the same point in time.

Disaster Recovery Service for Cloud

As demand for continuous business operations increases, downtime and loss of data, even if temporary, can have long-lasting effects on your organisation. The cost of unplanned downtime can run into millions of dollars for every hour infrastructure and critical applications fail. With an increasing amount of cyberattacks on corporate data and the risk of data leaks, business continuity and mitigating risk is top of mind for any CEO.

However, maintaining parallel infrastructure in a secondary data centre for disaster recovery is costly and difficult to keep current. In-house staff, often already stretched to the limit, don’t always have the time or skills to regularly focus on disaster recovery processes and testing.

Dimension Data offers cost-effective disaster recovery service to support your applications residing in our cloud.

We monitor the replication process to help ensure data is being replicated and will be ready to meet your disaster-recovery needs. With data centres around the globe, we bring cloud expertise in deployment, management, automation, and security for organisations of all sizes.

The Managed Recovery and Migration Platform (MRMP) is tightly integrated with our CloudControl™ management system via an application programming interface (API).

Consistency groups ensure all virtual machines (VMs) within a group are in sync between the source and target sites.

All virtual machines (VMs) within the consistency group share a journal.

‘ In the event of data corruption, you can roll back just seconds before the corruption occurred and reverse the error.’

Feature Description Benefits

Recovery time achieved service level agreement

Our ISO 22301-aligned, end-to-end managed services include plan development, programme management, and 24/7 disaster recovery response. These services deliver a recovery time achieved guarantee of less than four hours for one to 256 protected servers, plus an additional two hours for each additional 200 servers

Peace of mind that Dimension Data will recover your applications within four hours

Less-than-15-minutes recovery point objective

Asynchronous replication architecture supports the ability to recover consistency groups to any point in time within the replica journal

Our disaster recovery and network experts work with you to ensure that the proper replication network connectivity is in place to support recovery to any point in time within 15 minutes of a disaster. If the replication network connectivity is interrupted, the replication cache will store changes in the source journal and then asynchronously replicate them when connectivity is restored

Supports minimising the amount of data loss to 15 minutes

Consistency groups Ability to group up to 10 servers into a consistency group to enable the recovery of your environment on a per-consistency-group basis to the same point in time

Eliminate errors and delays as a result of manual configurations and processes and improve recovery time

No impact recovery plan testing

The service includes regular and periodic disaster recovery drills and testing without any impact to the production or recovery of virtual machines

Regular validation and exercise of disaster recovery ensures the plan will be effective in case of a real disaster

Operating systems supported • Windows Server 2008 R1 and R2

• Windows Server 2012 R1 and R2

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6

• CentOS 5 and 6

• Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and 12.04

• SUSE 11 Linux

Provides flexibility to deliver disaster recovery services in support of your Windows and Linux environments

Remote access Provides enterprise-grade remote access via both Layer-3 virtual private network and SSL virtual private network

Enables remote users to connect to the cloud securely using an SSL-encrypted connection with two-factor authentication and device pairing

Background replication The replication process occurs in the background Replication doesn’t affect the performance of the source cloud server being protected

Monitoring We provide 24/7 monitoring of the recovery environment and data protection options

Help ensures the ongoing health of your recovery environment
