Summer 2010

2010 NCSAPPB Election Results

In May and June, the Board held its annual election. The Board received

seven nominations for the North Cen-tral region seat and six nominations for the At-Large seat, which is a record response to the call for nominations! The Board appreciates the field’s over-whelming response and encourages your ongoing support and participation.

The counselors elected to the Board as a result of this year’s election are Mr. Dale Willetts and Mr. Al Greene. Mr. Willetts is a Certified Criminal Justice Professional and currently serves as the Director of the NC TASC Training Institute. He will replace Mr. Michael Herring on the Board and will be sworn in at the Board’s Annual meeting in July.

Mr. Al Greene will continue his service on the Board, serving in the At-Large seat. Mr. Greene, LCAS, CCS, currently serves as the Chair of the Board’s Quality Assurance Com-mittee with the continued goal to serve the Board’s constituency while upholding standards to protect the public.

The Board wishes to express its appreciation to Mr. Herring for his seven years of service on the Board. Mr. Herring worked tirelessly as the Chair of the Board’s Standards Com-mittee, helping establish Board rules and policy. Mr. Herring’s attributable service will leave a lasting imprint on the Board and its growth over the past decade.

As a result of a Board hearing held June 11, 2010, an Order was issued sus-pending the credential of Debra McGhee Knox, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. This suspension was effective immediately and to continue until such time as she comes into compliance with the statutes and rules of the Board and for a period of six month thereafter.

As a result of a Board hearing held June 11, 2010, an Order was issued sus-pending the credential of Walter A. Abbott, Jr., Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist. will occur at the William and Ida Fri-day Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill. The Friday Center is located at 100 Friday Center Drive off of Highway 54 West. Highway 54 West can be accessed via Interstate 40 at Exit 273. The exam will begin at 10 a.m.

Please plan to arrive at the Friday Center by 9 a.m for exam registra-tion. You will not be allowed to test on September 11th unless you receive notice from the Board office that you have been scheduled for this exam. Please contact the Board office with any questions.

DMV Evaluators

DMV Evaluators are reminded that they must attend a DMV

Substance Abuse Evaluation (SAE) training once every two (2) years and pass the DMV’s exam in order to recertify. If you attended one of the four SAE training courses that occurred on September and Decem-ber 12th, 2009 or March 26th or 29th, 2010, then you will have to recertify at the next scheduled DMV SAE training in 2011. to credentialed persons for their biennial renewal cycle. Instead, the offi ce will be mailing postcard reminders with a link on the Board’s website to where you may download and complete the application. The application is found under the RESOURCES AND FORMS link on the website. Please take note of your expira-tion date and plan your CEU’s accordingly!

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides independent diagnostic, psycho-social and profes-sional counseling for clients (adults, adolescents and chil-dren) with complicated substance abuse, addiction problems, mental health and co-occurring disorders – with an appropri-ate level of supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from a four-year college or university in human services or related fi eld and two years of pro-gressive substance abuse counseling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Graduation from a Master’s degree program in clinical or substance abuse treatment psychology

• LCSW required
