1 Before you begin...

This document describes the system requirements and the installation process for PTV Map&Guide intranet.

Please observe the following points before you begin the installation:

Before starting the setup, decide on how the distributed installation should occur on multiple computers (see chapter 2.3 "Installation types" on page 11).

Make sure that all requirements are fulfilled for the installation (see chapter 2.2 "System requirements" on page 5).

Observe the prescribed sequence for the installation. Depending on the dis-tribution of the product components on different computers, the execution of the setup on several computers is required (see chapter 2.4 "Installation se-quence" on page 15).

Your operating system must be up to date for the installation of PTV Map&Guide intranet. First install all Microsoft® updates.

2 Installation

In this chapter you will find information about

Product Components

System requirements

Installation types

Installation sequence

Multi-server installation

Single-server installation

2.1 Product Components

PTV Map&Guide intranet consists of several individual components, which will be explained in brief as follows. Which system requirements must be fulfilled for the components can be found in chapter 2.2 "System requirements" on page 5.

In a multi-server installation, the components can be installed in a distributed manner on several computers. To do so, install the setup and the respective component on the computer of your choice. During the setup process, you can specify paths and folders.

Note: The installation of the components must be executed directly on the cho-sen target computer. Remote installations or automatic software distribution are not supported.

2.1.1 PTV xServer components

This deals with a collection of software components, which offer geographic and logistic functions. They have a modular design and due to their cluster technolo-gy, they allow for a simple scalability so that the performance requirements can be easily guaranteed.

Page 12: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

3

Four PTV xServer components are used in PTV Map&Guide intranet:

PTV xRoute: Calculation of routes, emissions, toll

PTV xTour: Trip optimisation

PTV xLocate: Geocoding

PTV xMap: Display of maps and customer addresses

An SMPT server is needed for the (optional) email notification about current toll updates. This can either be a server locally installed in your network or one of the services offered online, for example, mail.yahoo.de. The access data for the mail delivery is stored in the administration tool (see chapter 4.3 "Enter SMTP server access data" on page 49).

A TI Servlet is required to view traffic information. This should only be installed system-wide on the computer which serves as host for the PTV xServer compo-nents. This is why, if you install the PTV xServer components , you will be asked whether you want to access traffic information from the internet.

Note: An internet connection is required to access traffic information, currency exchange rates, toll updates and orders from the freight exchange.

2.1.2 Map server

The map server is a special service which provides the map's background tiles and geocodes their databases in the background. This allows for the map to be shown quickly in the PTV Map&Guide intranet web application and enables a faster location search.

The map server is contacted by the PTV Map&Guide intranet scheduler service, which is installed in parallel to the PTV Map&Guide intranet application.

Note: Together with the map server, the Internet Information Service (IIS) and the PTV xServer components PTV xMap and PTV xLocate are installed automatically.

The PTV xLocate Server is required for automatically geocoding user-defined address tables and ensures that automatic geocoding of imported addresses does not affect the speed of interactive geocoding during route planning.

2.1.3 Database

During the installation you can choose whether you want to use an existing data-base server. If none of the listed database versions are installed, the English-language version of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express is automatically in-stalled.

2.1.4 PTV Map&Guide intranet web application

The web application consists of middleware and front-end components and runs within the Internet Information Service (IIS). The IIS can be installed automatically during the setup, or you can install the IIS manually.

PTV Map&Guide intranet Scheduler This deals with a Windows service, which can be managed through the service administration. This service executes time-controlled functions (trigger-based, interval-based) in the PTV Map&Guide intranet application environment. The service is installed together with the web application and fulfils the following tasks:

Accessing current currency exchange rates. The requirement for access is an active internet connection.

Geocoding of user defined addresses during the import of data into address tables. For geocoding, the PTV xLocate component is installed separately on the computer with the map server so as not to hinder the interactive ge-ocoding within the web application.

Checking of toll updates and (optional) notification by email. An active inter-net connection is required for the check. The email delivery requires SMTP Server access. Access data can be entered in the administration tool (see chapter 4.3 "Enter SMTP server access data" on page 49).

Access truck parking spaces from Truck Parking Europe (https://truck.infinum.co). The requirement for access is an active internet connection.

2.2 System requirements

PTV Map&Guide intranet can be used and tested under the following system requirements. This does not rule out the fact that PTV Map&Guide intranet may run under different circumstances, but subject to conditions.

For the installation, a DVD drive is required on all computers or access to a folder/network drive on which the contents of the installation DVD were cop-ied.

You must be logged in with local administration rights in order to install the PTV Map&Guide intranet components. A remote installation is not supported.

2.2.1 Operating System

The PTV Map&Guide intranet components are tested and released for the follow-ing operating systems:

Microsoft® Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows 10 Professional (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows 8/8.1 (64-bit)

Microsoft® Windows 7 (64-bit)

We recommend the use of Microsoft® Windows Server 2012 for all computers on which PTV Map&Guide intranet components are installed.

Note: Please remember that it must be at least the Standard Edition of Microsoft® Windows Server. The Web Edition is inadequate.

Page 15: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

6

2.2.2 Database

The PTV Map&Guide intranet database requires one of the following databases (or a more current version of the same type):

Microsoft® SQL 2016 Standard

Microsoft® SQL 2016 Express

Microsoft® SQL 2014 Standard

Microsoft® SQL 2014 Express

Microsoft® SQL 2012 Standard

Microsoft® SQL 2012 Express

Microsoft® SQL 2012 R2 Standard

Microsoft® SQL 2012 R2 Express

During the installation you can choose whether you want to use an existing data-base server. If none of the listed database versions are installed, the English-language version of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express is automatically in-stalled.

The database must be configured for the SQL Server authentication ("mixed mode"). If Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express is installed through the PTV Map&Guide intranet setup, this occurs automatically.

Note: At the time of the product approval, the licence conditions of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express explicitly allow for its use in commercial products. Only usage in commercial hosting environments is excluded. As the licence con-ditions of the Express editions can occasionally change, we would recommend checking the current licence conditions and, if necessary, installing the paid ver-sion of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Edition.

2.2.3 Hardware

Depending on whether you wish to carry out a multi-server installation or a sin-gle-server installation, the hardware requirements differ for individual computers.

Page 16: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

Installation

7

2.2.3.1 Multi-server installation

The hardware requirements for the PTV Map&Guide intranet components and the required port numbers for release are listed in the following table.

To ensure that access to the PTV xServer components and Microsoft® Windows SQL Server® is possible during a distributed installation across all computers, ports must be released. Run this step on the individual computers directly after the components have been installed.

The RAM specifications are found in the memory, which is also required be-sides the operating system and other applications.

The hard drive specifications indicate the required free disk space.

Note: If you already use PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016 and are installing the new version in parallel, the system requirements increase (see chapter 5 "PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016 update" on page 51). For them to work effectively, both versions should not be used at the same time as this could lead to perfor-mance problems. For a parallel installation, we recommend using only one sys-tem for test purposes and one productively.

2.5.1.2 Computer 2

The following components must be installed on computer 2:

Internet Information Server (IIS)

Database

PTV Map&Guide intranet web application

Install database and PTV Map&Guide intranet web application For the installation and operation of the PTV Map&Guide intranet web applica-tion, an enabled Internet Information Service (IIS) is required.

The IIS can be installed automatically through the setup, or alternatively you can install the IIS manually.

Note: The IIS must be installed manually before the PTV Map&Guide intranet setup. Observe the notes in chapter 2.1.4 "PTV Map&Guide intranet web applica-tion" on page 4 and chapter 3 "Install Internet Information Service (IIS) manually" on page 43.

The database and PTV Map&Guide intranet web application are installed on the same computer by default. If a suitable version of Microsoft SQL Server is already installed, this can be used for the PTV Map&Guide intranet database. Optionally, your own copy of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Express (English-language ver-sion) can be installed through the setup. See the notes in chapter 2.1.3 "Database" on page 4.

Note: If you would like to manage the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases on an SQL server that is located on another computer, you must start the setup for the database on that computer.

1. Insert the program DVD into your DVD drive.

The start screen appears.

2. Click on Install.

The installation Wizard opens.

Tip: If the installation does not automatically appear, start the installation via the setup.exe file.

Yes: The database backup is set up automatically. You can adjust the security information subsequently (see chapter 6 "Setting up manual backup of the databases" on page 71).

No: An automatic backup of the database is not created. Set up the da-tabase backup manually (see chapter 6 "Setting up manual backup of the databases" on page 71).

Note: For technical reasons, the user database recovery model is set to Complete after installation. The complete recovery model means that the transaction log (*.ldf file) permanently requires more disk space. The transaction log is automatically kept small by the automatic data-base backup scripts. Important: If you do not set up the database backup, you must reset the database recovery model to Simple manually.

To do so, open the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017 database module using SQL Management Studio.

Enter the following command via New request: ALTER DATABASE [PTV Map&Guide_intranet_2017_usermanagement] SET RECOV-

ERY SIMPLE WITH NO_WAIT and confirm with Run.

13. If you have selected an automatic backup, enter a path to the backup di-rectory on the Select drive for the backup medium page.

4 Getting started

After you have installed PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017, you must take the follow-ing steps.

4.1 Release with serial number and PIN code

1. In order to setup your PTV Map&Guide intranet version, open the admin-istration tool, which is found on the web application computer. After an installation in standard directories, you can open it via the URL:

http://<Name/IP des Webservers>/mgi2017-admin/

2. Specify a user name and a password for the administrator.

Note: The selection of the language is only in regards to the current ses-sion and has no effect on other users.

3. Confirm your details with Log in.

The administration tool starts.

4. In the window First start > tab Licence assistant, enter your serial number and confirm with Add.

The Activation tab opens. Here, using the serial number and a system-dependent reference number, you generate a PIN code which releases PTV Map&Guide intranet.

5. Click on Generate PIN.

If the PIN was generated successfully, you can work with PTV Map&Guide intra-net.

Note: The PIN code is generated in a system-dependent manner. If you wish to install PTV Map&Guide intranet on another computer following activation, con-tact our Technical Support team: (http://www.mapandguide.com/en/service/support/support-contact/).

4.2 Edit administrator data

After starting the administration tool, you have already been created as a user of the Administrator group.

Note: We deliver two predefined groups: Administrator and standard.

In the Administrator group, all access rights to PTV Map&Guide intranet are available. In addition, a user who is assigned to the Administrator group also has access to the administration tool. He can therefore administrate users and groups.

In the Standard group, all important access rights to PTV Map&Guide intranet are available.

1. If you would like to edit your user data, select the entry in the navigator User Management > User.

The list of the created users is displayed.

2. Double click on the created user.

3. Add your user data.

4. If you would like to be informed of toll updates, add your email address and activate the Notify of new toll updates option.

Getting started

49

Note: The information about the new toll updates is only sent to the speci-fied email address if you have set up an SMTP server (see chapter 4.3 "Enter SMTP server access data" on page 49).

You can create other users through the toolbar > User area > New.

Tip: More information about creating users and working with the administration tool can be found in the online help.

4.3 Enter SMTP server access data

An SMTP server is needed for the optional email notification about current toll updates. This can either be a server locally installed in your network or one of the services offered online, for example, mail.yahoo.de. The access data for the SMTP servers can be entered in the administration tool.

1. Following login, select the Setup mail server entry in the toolbar of the administration area .

The Setup mail server window will open

3. Follow the instructions of the installation wizard.

4. Select PTV Map&Guide intranet as the map application.

5. Specify the map path.

Note: Usually the previous version of the map is already installed in the suggested directory. The map path is therefore renamed by the setup.

A new Europe city map is, for example, not installed in the existing Euro-pePremium.geo directory, but rather in the EuropePremium_1.geo direc-tory.

6. Enter the map serial number specified as listed on your licence certificate.

7. Confirm your settings.

8. Exit the installation wizard with Finish.

The map has now been installed.

In the next step, install other components.

Note: The data directory must be stored on a local drive. If the computer has several drives, you should not select the C: drive for performance rea-sons.

15. On the Backup and maintenance of the database page, state whether backups of the database should be created automatically.

Important: Set up the database jobs even if you have already done this for the previous version!

Important: If you did not set up the database backup, you must reset the database recovery model to Simple manually. To do so, open the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017 database module using SQL Management Studio.

Diagnostic Tool 2017 If support is needed, you can send important system information via the diagnostic tool.

Data transfer intranet 2016 Tool to transfer the data from PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016.

5.3 Transferring data from PTV Map&Guide in-tranet 2016

Notes: Start the PTV Map&Guide intranet Administration Tool before the data transfer and enter the available serial number. This gives you free licences for the transfer of other users and this ensures that users are not transferred with the deactivated status. If you have fewer licences available in PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017 than in the previous version, the last users created in the previous version are trans-ferred with the status Deactivated.

The following data that you created in a previous version is transferred to the new version.

User and groups from the Administration Tool

Vehicles, profiles and station lists from the web application

Databases from the data manager

The data is stored in databases on the SQL server.

There is an update tool for you to use to transfer the data. After an installation in the standard directories, you can find the tool on the computer where the web application was installed under C:\ProgramFiles\PTVGROUP\ PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Tools\Updatetool PTV Map&Guide intra-net\Updatetool.exe or in the start menu under PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Tools\Datatransfer intranet 2016.

If you use the previous version of the SQL server for the databases of the new version, the data is automatically transferred by the update tool.

If you wish to use a different SQL server for the new version's databases, you must back up the databases and save them in the new SQL servers via the update tool.

Page 76: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016 update

67

Notes: Before you start a data transfer, all users must log out of the client and the administration tool.

The data transfer can be executed as often as necessary.

Please note that all data that you have already created in the new version, PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017 , is lost in the data transfer. Only the user name and password of the administrator who was the first to start the PTV Map&Guide in-tranet 2017 Administration Tool remain unchanged.

Do you use the previous version of SQL Server?

1. Move them to the computer on which you have installed the web applica-tion.

If you have installed PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017 in the default directo-ries, you will find the update tool under C:\ProgramFiles\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Tools\Updatetool PTV Map&Guide intranet\ Updatetool.exe or in the start menu under PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Tools\Datatransfer intranet 2016.

2. Start the update tool.

3. Click on Start.

4. Confirm by inputting Yes.

The data from the previous version will be transferred.

Do you not use the previous version of SQL Server?

If you wish to use an SQL server on a different computer than for the previous version, you have access to an SQL script that you can use to back up the data-bases of version 2016 before starting the update tool.

You must first create a backup of the 2016 database using the SQL script and copy this into the new SQL server's directory. Then start the update tool and the data are imported.

1. Start Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and open the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016 database.

69

Notes: Please note that you must carry out the uninstallation on every computer on which the components of PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016 were installed.

Automatic uninstallation via the control panel

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016

Automatic uninstallation removes the web applications, PTV xServer compo-nents, Ajax Maps Server and PTV Map&Guide intranet Scheduler.

PTV Europe City Map Premium 2016.2H

Automatic uninstallation removes the maps used by PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016.

Manual uninstallation of the remaining files Automatic uninstallation does not completely remove all files and data.

As such, check whether the following file is still present and delete it manually if necessary.

C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2016

Note: All path information relates to installation of the previous version in the default directories.

Deleting databases and LOG files from the previous version

Attention: Only delete databases and LOG files if you have transferred the data to the new version (see chapter 5.3 "Transferring data from PTV Map&Guide intra-net 2016" on page 66). If the databases have been deleted, it is no longer possible to carry out the trans-fer using the update tool.

1. On the computer on which the database was installed, open the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

2. Under Databases, delete the following entries:

mapandguide_intranet_2016

71

6 Setting up manual backup of the databases

Notes: If you have selected an automatic backup in Setup, the database jobs are installed and set up automatically. However, you can adjust the scripts and tasks subsequently. Important: The jobs for backing up the databases of a previous version do not back up the databases of the new version! If you would like to back up version 2017 databases, you must set up the jobs again.

Regular backups are created of the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases and the system databases via the database jobs. Furthermore, the database indexes are optimised and a database integration check is carried out.

If you have not set up an automatic database backup via Setup, you can set up the database jobs to back up the PTV Map&Guide intranet databases manually.

After installation in the default directories, you will find the necessary installation files under C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\PTV Map&Guide_intranet_2017\DATA\Scripte\Maintenance.

The databases are backed up via the freely available SQL script SQL Server Maintenance Solution by Ola Hallegreen.

Page 81: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

72

Notes: The recommended backup strategy is freely available free of charge. It is used by many well-known organisations. Further information on this can be found at: http://ola.hallengren.com/organizations.html

PTV AG accepts no responsibility for the correctness, completeness and up-to-date nature of the recommended backup strategy.

The required SQL procedures and tables are created and the Windows tasks are set up via the installation files that back up and check the PTV Map&Guide intra-net databases at specified intervals.

6.1 Changing the backup directory

You can state in the installation files that another directory is used for backups.

Notes: If you do not change the directories, the database backups are stored in the folder C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\PTV Map&Guide_intranet_2017\DATA\ in a subdirectory which is named in the same way as the SQL instance name, e.g. MGINTRA$PTVMG. If the computer where the SQL Server is installed has multiple hard disks, the hard disk where the database data is stored should be used for the backup.

Make the change in the following installation files:

dba_UserDBs_DifferentialBackup.cmd

dba_UserDBs_FullBackup.cmd

dba_SysDBs_FullBackup.cmd

dba_UserDBs_LogBackup.cmd

Determine the required backup directory via the entry @Directory=<path>, e.g. @Directory=D:\MGintra_backup_DB

6.2 Determining SQL user

In order to create the SQL procedures and tables, you require an SQL user who is assigned to the sysadmin role.

Page 82: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

Setting up manual backup of the databases

73

You specify the sysadmin role login data in the file dba_MaintenanceSolution.cmd.

1. Open the dba_MaintenanceSolution.cmd script with a text editor.

2. Enter the login data of an SQL user with sysadmin role: -U <User> -P "<Password>", e.g. –U admin –P "PW9988"

6.3 Setting up jobs

After you have carried out all necessary adjustments (if necessary, see chapter 6.1 "Changing the backup directory" on page 72 and chapter 6.2 "Determining SQL user" on page 72), you can install the jobs in the next step.

Important: Start the installation files using administrator rights.

Setting up Windows tasks

Start the file schtask_create_all.cmd using administrator rights.

8 command files are activated via the file to set up the Windows tasks. In the Windows task planning, the following tasks are set up to back up the databases.

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_UserDBs_LogBackup

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_SysDBs_IntegrityCheck

Carries out an integrity check of all system databases (master, model, msdb)

PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_SysDBs_FullBackup

Carries out a full backup of the system databases (master, model, msdb).

Checking the task setup

During the setup, a full backup of all relevant PTV Map&Guide intranet databases is run once for test purposes via the task PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_UserDBs_FullBackup.

In Windows task planning you can check whether the backup has been carried out successfully.

1. Open Windows task planning via Start > Run > taskschd.msc.

2. In the navigation tree, select the Task library entry.

The following tasks are entered to back up the databases.

Note: The PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_UserDBs_FullBackup task has already been run once during setup.

3. Check the following:

In the PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017_UserDBs_ FullBackup task, is the entry The operation was completed successfully (0x0) in the Last Run Result column?

Page 84: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

75

In the specified backup directory (Standard: C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\DATA\ <SQL-Instanzname>\PTV Map&Guide_intranet \FULL, was a *.bak file created?

If both entries are there, the setup has been successful.

Notes: If required, you can adjust the set times at which the tasks are carried out through the Windows Task Planner. The intervals are set so that a full database backup is carried out every 8 days. Backups that are older than 8 days are automatically deleted by the jobs.

Checking log files Log files are created by carrying out the Windows tasks.

The result of the action last carried out is recorded in a log file which has the same name as the corresponding task. Log files are saved under C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Log\ MaintenanceSolution.

Note: For security reasons we recommend you check the log files at regular inter-vals.

Deleting Windows tasks

You can delete all the Windows tasks again to back up the PTV Map&Guide intra-net databases.

To do this, start the file schtask_delete_all.cmd using administrator rights.

7 Tips and Tricks

7.1 Changing log file path

After installation, log files are saved in the default directories under C:\ProgramData\PTVGROUP\PTV PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\Log\.

You can change this path at the beginning of the installation. To do so you must call up the Setup. exe with the following parameters

setup.exe Logpath = "<Path details>", e.g.

setup.exe Logpath = "D:\MGintra 2017"

7.2 Subsequent enabling of traffic information retrieval

If you have not enabled traffic information retrieval during installation, you can do this subsequently.

1. Go to the directory in which the PTV xRoute Server has been installed.

Note: When installing using the default directories, the PTV xRoute Server component can be found under C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\xServer\ xRoute.

2. Open the webapps directory.

3. Rename the TrafficInfoLoader.wa_ file as TrafficInfoLoader.war.

After a few minutes, the traffic information will be retrieved automatically.

7.3.3 Amending URLs in the configuration files

To ensure that the online help and contents of the state monitors are still shown after conversion, you must convert both URLs in the configuration files to https.

Administration Tool configuration file: 1. Open the administration tool's configuration file (after a standard installa-

tion found under C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\frontend_admin\conf\config.js).

2. Search for the entry "webhelp.url" and change the URL from http to https.

3. Search for the entry "fe.url" and change the URL from http to https.

PTV Map&Guide intranet configuration file: 1. Open PTV Map&Guide intranet's configuration file (after a standard instal-

lation found under C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017\frontend\conf\config.js).

2. Search for the entry "webhelp.url" and change the URL from http to https.

3. Search for the entry "fe.url" and change the URL from http to https.

7.4 Hide access to the administration tool in the login window

In the standard configuration, each user is offered access to the administration tool when logging into PTV Map&Guide intranet. If you want to allow users access only to the PTV Map&Guide intranet application (web client), you can change the settings in the configuration file config.js.

Note: Changes in the configuration file should only be made by experienced users because settings containing errors could cause the program to become unstable or the version to become impossible to run. Before any changes, we recommend you to save the config.js file.

On the computer on which the web application was installed, open the file config.js under C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide in-tranet 2017\frontend\conf.

82

Change the "hideAdminToolLogin" entry: false, to "hideAdminToolLogin": true,

7.5 Display preferences for road types with val-ues.

In PTV Map&Guide intranet, when creating routing profiles, you can specify which road types you prefer for the planning of a route.

You have sliders here with which you can specify whether you wish to favour or avoid a road type.

In factory settings, no values are displayed for the sliders. The internally stored values are abstract and have not got any significance in themselves.

However, if you wish to compare the values set, for example, if each user is to work with the same settings, it can be useful to display the values or enter values.

Page 92: Disclaimer Warranty Restrictions Further Copyrights · this software is provided by chad z. hower (kudzu) and the indy pit crew "as is'' and any express or implied warranties, including,

83

As such, you can enable this function. To do this, the configuration file Con-fig.js needs to be changed.

Search for the entry "vehicle.RoutingProfileNumberFields":false,

Change the entry to "vehicle.RoutingProfileNumberFields":true,

Note: If the entry does not exist, add it.

The next time that you start up PTV Map&Guide intranet, the values will be dis-played under the slider and you can entry your own values into the input field.

Note: Please note that you can enter values only between -99 and 2501. -99 means very strong preference for the road type, 2501 works like a block. In the value field, 400 values will be different. If you enter the value 1000, for example, this is rounded to the next known value in PTV Map&Guide intranet, in this exam-ple, 1003.

7.6 Expanding information text for new users

If you have created a user in the administration tool, you can send the required login data to the user by email.

There is a standard text here in the administration tool:

Link to PTV Map&Guide intranet 2017: <Link>

User name: <User name>

Password: <Password>

If you do not wish to give the user more information, you can amend the standard text in the configuration file Config.js.

Note: Changes in the configuration file should only be made by experienced users because settings containing errors could cause the program to become unstable or the version to become impossible to run. Before any changes, we recommend you to save the config.js file.

On the computer on which the web application was installed, open the file config.js under C:\Program Files\PTVGROUP\PTV Map&Guide in-tranet 2017\frontend_admin\conf.

Search for the entry "newuser.infotext":““,

Enter your chosen information text, e.g.: "newuser.infotext":"Please change the password at: My account > Change password",

Note: If the entry does not exist, add it.

7.7 Possibilities for load sharing

Note: In order to increase the performance of the system, there are different possibilities. To find the optimal solution for your system environment, contact your PTV Map&Guide intranet consultant in advance.

As an example, you have the option of also installing additional PTV xServer components on other computers in order to achieve a better load distribution.

1. On the new computer, please run the setup.exe program DVD for the in-stallation.

2. On the Installation type page, select Multi-server installation.

3. Select the following components in the setup and follow the instructions from the installation wizard:

Map server

Database

PTV xServer components

PTV Map&Guide intranet web application

After successful installation of the PTV xServer components, you must restart the Internet Information Server (IIS) on the computer on which the web application is running.

Note: Restarting the Internet Information Server causes a short-term interruption when working with PTV Map&Guide intranet. We therefore recommend restart-ing at a time when no users are working with PTV Map&Guide intranet.

7.8 Use remote control

In the PTV Map&Guide intranet Client, information can be transferred through an interface via the external systems, such as trip or customer administration sys-tems. Therefore, for example, a route can be created, calculated and optimised from customer addresses in the Route planning application.

You will find a detailed description of the remote control in the help for the ad-ministration tool.
